So the 6 page thread of Demolisher cannon aside. It seems that Chase is standing for RAW correct? I present the new headache fresh from the Space Wolf FAQ and Eratta.
"Page 62, Wolftooth Necklace, replace the last sentence with: Against models with a WS value, a model with a wolftooth necklace always hits in close combat on the roll of a 3+."
So since dreadnoughts have a weapon skill It stands to reason that I hit dreadnaughts on a 3+ with RAW correct?
Combine that with Saga of the Beast Slayer: "The character may re-roll all failed to hit rolls against walkers, monsterous creatures and models with a toughness of 5 or more"
In effect, I hit dreadnoughts on a 3+ and re-roll if i miss? Commence arguement.
-
If that's what the errata says then it looks to me like you would be hitting Dreadnoughts on a 3+ rerolling misses.
Unless there's something I'm missing...
-
I don't see any problem with this, as long as your not trying to use grenades. If it was a normal close combat attack in which two models compare their WS then yet the necklace happens. When fighting a walker with the saga you mentioned you would re-roll hits, the fact that the two work together is great.
But a grenade rule states that you give up your close combat attacks to toss a grenade at a vehicle. If that vehicle is a walker you need 6's, unless its immobilized the your grenades hit on a 4+.
-
Pretty sure there's no question with that combination.

the to hit part is correct. and the dreadnought will if it has a toughness value, but i think dreadnoughts dont have toughness, i think they just have armor values. ill have to check but if they do then it all checks out.

He gets the re-roll due to a Dreadnought being a walker, not because of the toughness value (or in this case, lack thereof). Correct?
-
Yes a Dreadnought is a Walker so he gets the re-roll.
The re-roll is granted if the target of the attack fulfills any of the following conditions: Is the Target a Walker? Is the Target a Monstrous Creature? Does the Target have toughness 5 or more?
If there was a Monstrous Creature out there that for some reason was Toughness 3 he would get the re-roll because it is a Monstrous Creature. Only need to meet one requirement not all of them.

Wolftooth Necklace:
One who has triumphed in one of the contests of might held at the Fang may be awarded a wolftooth necklace in recognition of his martial excellence and athletic prowess. In close combat, a model with a wolftooth necklace always hits on the roll of 3+ regardless of comparative Weapon Skills."
Based on this, I am lead to believe that the Wolftooth Necklace does not allow for a hit on 3+ with any sort of grenade due to the use of a grenade not comparing Weapon Skills.
Edit: The errata changes the text to:
Page 62, Wolftooth Necklace, replace the last sentence with: Against models with a WS value, a model with a wolftooth necklace always hits in close combat on the roll of a 3+.
Just like Murph said in his post. Based on this, I believe even the grenades would hit on a 3+ and reroll misses.
-
actually thats debatable. it sounds like they are meaning for it to be models vs model. like a wolf vs a space marine etc.

According to the RAW, Dave, I don't think there's any debate here. What you're bringing up in your statement is something that can be used in an RAI vs RAW debate, and even then, I think it's a stretch.

Should've thought to look at the FAQ. Sounds like they changed it so that it'd be clear that the grenades get the benefit. Seems odd, but cool.
