Anyone up for another map-based campaign with a little twist? ;)
It would (try to*) use the actual world map, with factions starting off in their own respective "land" and work off of that, but it would have the actual results and rankings done by a points system, which will/would be enhanced by achievement points for doing epic and winning by non-traditional means (in otherwords not JUST trying to kill the warcaster) stuff in-game. for some examples Ive been throwing around:
"One shot, One kill." - destroy the enemy's warcaster in a single blow.
"Thanks for coming." - win on your turn 1.
"Leave no trace." - table the opponent.
"Eyes on the prize" - win by objective.
"Tunnel Vision" - kill the opposing warcaster without scoring a point.
"Thinking outside the box" - win via the kill box
"Lads got talent" - kill the warcaster with a grunt.
"If you want something done" - kill the opposing caster with yours.
each achievement would be given out once per player, as well as some that are not related to winning, and some related to multiple games (going undefeated or never winning).
and I swear to god, if you think about wisecracking and saying if you subtract battleground from both sides you have just a campaign, ill 1v1 you with a raw fish dog!

(Warmachine + Hordes + Maps)/(Campaign + Battleground) = (Campaign + Battleground)/(Campaign + Battleground)
(Warmachine + Hordes + Maps)/(Campaign + Battleground) = 1
-
Yes, this is correct, there is one.
-
I'd be willing to play! I've been thinking about a campaign or something like that.
-
Would you have to make it every week? I'm currently on an every other week rotation?
-
Well, I mean, Im pretty sure you could just do a "double" move or something and make up for the off weeks, the communitty really shouldnt have a problem as it doesnt really hurt or help them. Or if people need a wah-mbulence, you can get average points or something. I see no real snags in showing up alternating weeks, just something we would discuss.
This is making me pretty pumped up to start caster #2 Termi-Tank ;D

I will take part in this if everyone that doesn't work in Boston takes their midol before the event.

obviously we do!
-
LETS DO DIS THANG!!!
-
I'm mustering the Trolls. They're always up for taking their lands back!
-
Depending on if we start before or after my graduation, I may have my graduation present ;)
-
You're organizing this, dumbass. I'm ready whenever.
-
OMG YOU BOYS CAN BE SO CRUEL!!!
I need to find a good sized square world map to use, and then ill be ready the next week fo shoz homies. below im gonna post my tentative ideas in about a zillion posts.
-
The Basics:
Every player will start with a single flag/banner (a 35 point list) in their own faction's homeland.
After each week, one more flag/banner can be added, to a maximum of three.
example:
Dave Goss
week 1 list - eAsphyxious
next week - adds terminus
next week - adds denny
The game will work off of a points system:
win a game - +5
truce - +3
lose a game - +1
thats the basics, everybody gets points just like in the 5th grade. A truce is a draw, or a mutual acceptance.
-
Reward points:
So here are the achievements/bonuses you can earn (starred (*) items can be scored every game)
win by scenario* - +3
win by kill box* - +4 (this means you were involved in the other caster being out of the box, not just a noob leaving it there)
win by rage quit* - +1
win by assasination* - +2
instead of doing the bonus points, lets just say this: if you do something really awesome in a game, you get 5 points, this should be something that is really cool, not just rolling high or winning. This way everyone can look back, win or lose and have a great moment to be proud of.
examples:
one shotting a warcaster/warlock
tabling the opponent
winning by scenario without ever targeting the opponent's army with an attack
you get it? something that takes skill or a really proper set up to do!
-
How you move:
hopefully, the map can be made into squares in a way that this works out:
every new week, you will get to make a move a number of squares on the board equal to your flag/banner's speed (if the map is too small, itll be half that, rounded up).
you may always spend points to get an extra square of movement
maximum points you can spend is:
you flag/banner's command
this is of course, a calculated risk, spending points in hope of the gamble paying off.
you can only engage adjacent flags/banners.
-
What about having an enemy Caster burn to death for an acheivment :)
-
that would be pretty cool, twice :-\
-
If this goes on for quite a while, perhaps we could end it with something spectacular like a week of 50 point games, or a giant apocalyptic game where roughly 16 men enter, no man leaves. rated R, starring Mel Gibson.
Who knows though...
oh also, since theres been a lot of new players showing up, YOU CAN PLAY. Everyone pretty much has a battlebox list, and you can use that as an alternative list for all of your banners. Teaching a brand new player (first game) will give you a bonus of 10 points, however, win/losses will not count. It WILL count if you play someone who is on the map, but you dont get the 10 points, you get it or do I have to rant more? :o
-
I like this a lot. I've always wanted to try a campaign. I'll make sure I bring the equivalent of a Troll battlebox every week too.
Will we have the ability to change lists week to week? Also, will we get bonus points for building our own flags and objectives? :)
-
Sure, if you can come with a reasonablly artsy fartsy objective and flag/banner/marker(s) you can get 5 points for the objectives (make 3) and flag/etc/etc/etc (make 3) each.
you cant change it after you "deploy it" on the map, but do you really change your 35 point list with the same warcaster THAT much? we can discuss it. plus, you get three casters/warlocks. I will also allow you to run multiple factions, so ian could run say khador, protectorate and everblight one flag/e/e/e/e/e per faction, I see no biggie there.
also, there will be scaling for games:
25 points = .5 * points
35 points = 1 * points
50 points = 1.5 * points
cool beans? cool beans.
All i need is a poster sized map of immoren, and we can do this.
now I play, the waiting game...
-
You had me at deputy dawg....
-
so... theres officially not a poster of Immoren. :'(
ideas? maybe someone will draw a map of Immoren, I could do that, but itd be bad, I could also photocopy the picture in the book, which Im certain is either illegal or just not big enough.
best thought? make my own map that we can say has been discovered and all the factions are fighting over for various reasons.
-
How big does the map need to be?
-
probablly like a small poster sized one, the map in the book is good, but, like, too small. This is why the consideration of a homemade map might be good.
-
Perhaps we could use our imaginations for a second... I have a map of dark sun for dnd, but with some fixing up, it could be the new ladn where the factions are fighting over for a valuable rescource, such as oil.
anybody like the idea?
