Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Grey Knights

MODELS AND POINTS:
1. Each player must bring an army consisting of 2000 points (but no fewer than 1950), in accordance with these rules...
2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model.
3. Forge World Imperial Armor units (and army lists) may NOT be used. Forge world models may be used where appropriate, however.
4. We will require that each player submits an itemized army list to a Battleground Tournament Organizer on or before July 16th, 2011 (roughly a week before the event). An Army Builder .pdf is preferred but a detailed text file (.txt) is acceptable.
Please email lists to ChaseLaq@gmail.com as soon as they are finalized.
5. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition, tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt, please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The scenarios we will be using for the event will be a modified version the 2011 NOVA Primer Missions.
The scenarios can be found here. (http://novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Primer-2011-GT-Missions-v3.pdf)
Modifications will be as follows:
• Primary Goals in each mission will be worth 15 points for a win, 8 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
• Secondary Goals in each mission will be worth 7 points for a win, 3 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
• Tertiary Goals in each mission will be worth 5 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
This is in an effort to have a clear winner after 3 rounds.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:
• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you will play a different opponent. Each round will last 2.5 hours.
• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (based on the number of points they've scored) e.g., the player in first place will play the player in second place and so on. We will try our best not to pair players that come to the event together in the first round. If a player receives a BYE they will be awarded the average of the winning players points for the round.
• You will not play the same person twice.
• We will do our best to prevent a player from playing on the same table twice.
• The pairings for each round will be announced as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to arrive at your table ready to play right away.
• Slow playing will NOT be tolerated. Players are expected to complete at least 4 rounds. If you suspect your opponent is slow playing PLEASE notify a Battleground staff member as soon as possible as we can not do anything about alleged slow play after the fact.
• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.
• Players will receive Results Sheets at the beginning of each round. Each results sheet must be filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once Results Sheets are completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the computer.
BATTLES:
The Fifth Edition Rulebook will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2.5 hours. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; all players will need to finish their game immediately, and no additional time will be provided.
We will be using the INAT FAQ (http://www.dakkadakka.com/s/up/INATFAQv4.3.1.pdf) for this event.
What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least TWO copies of your army list
-Rulebooks are required as are any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table
Store Credit Awards will be given out to:

Best Theme / Comp / Sportsmanship

Note: A player may only win one award.

I wanted to keep the event as clean as possible for a few reasons, not least of which is the fact that I want a little break from people complaining about changes that make sense.
You'll have a new book come the next Singles tourn, have no fear. ;)

Right, although dealing with all the other exBlood Angel exSpace Wolve exGrey Knight Necron players will be fun when it comes out.

I guess I am now the official/unofficial tourny promoter!
And a damn good one at that!
-
Yessss, I've been looking forward to another tournament for ages.
Also, I'm definitely enjoying the new rules, seem way less confusing than last time's scenarios.
-
The Ron will be participating in this tournament.
-
The Ron hasn't signed up yet.
Theron on the other hand....
-
See what I did there?
-
I sure did!! 8)
-
Can you sign me up as well Chase
The Pink Tau ride again!
-
Please sign me up with Dark Eldar
-
All set, guys.
If you see this and can shoot me an email at ChaseLaq@gmail.com saying that you'd like to sign up or already have that would be great. Having it all in my email greatly helps the organization of the event and helps me a ton when it comes time for chasing people down for their lists.
-
the Orks will be there!!!
count me in
-
Only 5 spaces left. If you plan on signing up or know someone that is interested tell them NOW.
-
Due to demand we are expanding the event to 36 players.
We are currently at 33 people.
-
36 players emailed me to register in 29 hours, 8 minutes. Awesome.
We are still accepting registrations due to the certainty of drops the week before the event.
-
Ya seeing the post from a Cellphone at work 5 spots left the day after it got posted freaked me out. Good thing my Smart Phone has E-Mail Capabilities. :P
-
I actually needed to call ryan and remind him to grab a spot when i saw that there were 3 slots left xD.
-
Have him sign up anyways. If the track record holds true, 5-10 people will drop the week before the event.
We already have a few alternates, but having more can't hurt.

If you don't get that many drops and have a large group of alternates, you should have some sort of alternate tournament the day of. Something like skirmish games with a small prize.
-
And where would we put said alternate tournament? The reason everyone can't play is space. :(
As it stands, we need to find a way to get 3 extra tables in there beyond the normal 15... It'll be tight and it'll also be awesome.
And yes, that IS what she said.

There's always Abington :)
-
I figured someone would say that. I'd rather not send however many people to a different location for a "mini tournament" on the same day. It's hard enough to get people to send me army lists nevermind getting them to go to a different spot. :(

Excuses, excuses.
-
Also, you could have a game or two in the bathroom. But it might be too tight without that extra inch of space.
-
Sigh....
:(
-
well if a spece opens and you need a player I SHOULD have weekends off this Summer and would luike to play with my Ultra Marines
-
You're number 5 on my alternate list, Steve D.
-
I think if we push the two counters together horizontally that is about the size of a regulation table...
-
Its gonna be sunny play in the parking lot.
-
I am takimg full credit for this.rush of entries. Thats right i said it! Chase this is awesome glad to hear it!

Agreed on the pinning.
People get funny about their names being posted... but would anyone care if the armies were posted??
-
How about an e-mail so it's not posted? Armies work too.
-
Just use first names I dont care and if people have issues tell them to screw! There names are going to get posted anyway once you put up the results...
Armies are fine to I dont care I just want to know the spread..
-
Tell you what. I'm playing Daemons and I'll be at the tournament all day. You can break into my house and steal everything, but joke's on you! The Daemons would have been the most expensive there. :P
-
I'd rather keep the list private, mostly so people don't get funky with tailoring their lists. (Oh, lots of Guard? Better bring my anti-GEQ stuff...)
I think posting after the tournament should be sufficient to sate everyone's curiosity.
-
Ben whats your address I will make sure to stop by and loot your house..
-
Last time didn't you just need to PM chase for a write-up of all the people participating?
-
Let me elaborate on this request. I will get it by email or whatnot so it wont be posted but the reason I am asking in the first place is since I helped in promoting this event I am curious to see how that paid off and if some intended parties were able to make it.
No worries people stop stressin your homes are safe from burglurs who roam the BG forums looking for victims...
-
We have 48 people registered for the event including the 12 alternates. We are thinking about what to do given the demand. We can't realistically fit more than 18 tables (36 people) without it getting uncomfortable. There are ideas floating around, including a second, identical tournament the following Sunday, a tournament in Abington the same day, or just letting things be.
I will update everyone as soon as a conclusion has been reached.
As far as the roster is concerned I guess I could email people who are curious. It's a pretty tough field, I can say that. As far as armies go, many people did not say what they plan to bring.
If you want the list of player names, shoot me an email. I'm not at the store currently and haven't moved the list over to my laptop yet.

I'm intrigued as well... :)
-
Im Intrigued as well did you rent one of the buildings next door for the day?
-
Playing on the ceiling, Obviously.
-
Pfft, of Course should have that of that just let me hook up my Gravitron boots to climb up their tables are metal right for the magnets?
-
Different config + squeezing a little tighter = 21 tables.
We are going going to run three columns of 7 tables end to end down the store.
It should be fine. If it's a little uncomfortable we won't ever do it again, but something tells me it won't be too bad.
It won't feel any tighter than a doubles tourn.
-
Good news Chase if you need help setting up my crew and I will make themselves available.
-
Given my phobia could I trouble you guys to make my matches at the end near the window as I had a hard time even at 32.
Thanks

I've already considered this on your behalf, Vance. Have no worries, you'll be taken care of. :)
-
Good news Chase if you need help setting up my crew and I will make themselves available.
Thanks, Troy. We should have everything under control but if I need some help I'll definitely give you guys a shout. :)

Troy lies we are all jerks in his crew we wouldn't help! In all seriousness this is exciting a massive event borderline insanity will ensue!
-
Talked about this potential issue at the store last night, and I didn't have an answer...
Opening the field to 42 is already done, but when based primarily on wins and losses:
Round 1 will see 21 undefeated players.
Round 2 will see 10-11 undefeated players.
Round 3 will see 5-6 undefeated players.
If there are multiple players who table all three opponents for max points (which is likely given the talent), how would the winner be determined in that case?
-
One of the big changes that you will not see in the nova packet is that for this tourney points were assigned to all 3 objectives like we would for any normal bg tourney.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
Which I have to say is clearly printed in the tourny announcement!
-
Whereas I think the chances for something like you present are very, very, very, very slim, Ben, there are ways we can easily break the ties.
How I would handle it is very similar to the way it gets handled by the DCI (the organization who is responsible of scoring all Magic: The Gathering events) and Privateer Press. I would simply compare the strength of schedules between the winning players and award prizes based on that.
Obviously I would explain the situation to the players with a maximum score beforehand though, and would certainly offer them the option to split the prizes evenly.
What tends to happen at the top tables in round 3 is that the players draw or one eeks out a minor victory.
I could be wrong, but I think it is EXTREMELY unlikely that multiple people score max points for every goal in every game.
It is important to note that what you've presented reflects a situation where half the field wins in the grandest of fashions every round. This will not be the case.
-
I believe a draw with the RAW is possible. Two players table three opponents, and each game plays on such that those players score max points.
Strength of schedule could produce a tie-breaker, yet I'd also like to offer as a tie-breaker the winner being the player with the fewest Victory Points lost over the course of the day. It's like a measure of efficiency, and has a solid identifiable number.
The idea, take it, leave it, it's there. I'd prefer to look the fool now and have a clear solution ready, rather than not say anything at all and have the store seemingly make up something at the last minute. (*I* know the store doesn't roll like that, but there's lots of people from all over coming to these tourneys.)
-
It's definitely possible, that's for sure. I feel like it's improbable though. We've never had a situation where anyone has tied before. Granted, we've got 12 more players then ever before this time around.
We will be prepared in the case that it happens, but I'll be surprised if it does. :)
-
Probabilities and I have a special relationship. It's really better if I never know the odds. :)
I just want to be be clear though, I will not accept my anticipated tie for 24th place. It's either 24th or 25th.
-
I am currently signed up as an alt but would love to play in the tourney. 40k is definitely a VERY popular game at battleground and 1v1 games require the least amount of effort to setup/prepare for and are probably the most satisfying/rewarding to play.. maybe in the future 1v1 tourneys can be held more frequently, like every 2-3 months.
If I can't play in plainville then I will be at abington looking for opponents.. hopefully any other alts that don't make the final list will be there too. We can have our own unofficial tourney ;)
-
maybe in the future 1v1 tourneys can be held more frequently, like every 2-3 months.
They're already being held that often.
-
Sorry for this bad news looks like I must drop since I am unable to get next Saturday off.
-
If you don't have your tournament lists in by now, you're late.
I'm late, too.
-
I rolled out of bed and remembered that i had to put in my list but it was already like 6pm. luckily i had my list all written out and I just forgot about it.
-
We've had a bunch of people drop today after I sent out the army list reminder emails.
Good thing we've still got a bunch of alternates... but even those are going fast.
-
List sent, playing something really different. Very excited
-
We have had people drop like flies!
We've lost 12 people in the 19 hours since my reminders were sent out (which is irritating). Many have been replaced with people from the alternates list. I'm still waiting to hear back from the last few who, assuming they are still available to play, would leave us one person down.
So yeah, I have at LEAST one spot available for the event as of right now. If you've been waiting for a chance to get in, email me at ChaseLaq@gmail.com ASAP.
-
19 people? oh my
-
Right now, I think we're right around 40 players still... 38 minimum (assuming the two alternates who have yet to get back to me can't make it).
-
If only I was in town... :'(
-
signed up, last slot! chase, i emailed you my list, em.roy@live.com
-
What is your name, homie?
-
(in a canadian accent) Vanbruinswaardt, Emory Vanbruinswaardt
not quite as punchy as "bond" is it, sigh
-
Awesome last name.
-
The event has 42 players signed up as of the minute of this posting.
The room looks pretty good and will feel a lot more comfortable than I figured it would initially. I don't foresee many (any) complaints.
Good luck, everyone.
