Welcome everyone!
First of all, I'd like to express my thanks to Bill, Todd, Steve D., Rick, Tom, John and Pete for coming down to Battlegrounds for a fun day of "Weekend in the Realms". I look forward to seeing you all join me again at BG for another day of LFR.
That being said, I'd like to start planning a schedule for LFR gaming on at least a bi-weekly basis. I think Saturday mornings work well for this group, so for now we will work on a tentative every other Saturday schedule. If there are schedule conflicts, please let me know as soon as you can, so I can adjust the schedule. I want to keep this as consistent as possible though. If there's a day during the week that works better for everyone, please let me know. Once we get settled into playing on a regular basis, I think things will settle down much easier.
Also, please encourage other friends who are interested in the living campaign to come play a session or two. The cornerstone behind every gaming group is having a strong core of players. Eventually, I'd like to see at least 2 or 3 more tables running LFR games at BG, so let's bring 'em in while we can guys.
Alright, down to business. How does Saturday November, 8th work for everyone? I'm thinking about scheduling two regional adventures, and I GUARANTEE that the cool bundles you find in these modules will do your hard working PC's much more justice.
If Saturdays aren't ideal, then please let me know what your general availabilities are. Thanks again, guys.

Saturdays work for me but it has to be twards the AM since I have to report to work at 3. Also have a real real hard time getting up by 10 let alone being there at 10. My sleep cycle i smessed up because of my job. So I roll out around 11:30 or 12:00 also every other saturday I have other comittments.
-
Saturday's are the only time I'll really be able to make it to Battleground. So far the 8th looks good.
How did you make the character sheets? I want to update mine and I'd rather do it electronically if possible.
-
Hey so is there a set time to show up on saturdays cause I can get there depending on time and im really interested in playing.
-
Steve,
I'm glad you decided to drop us a line. If what you need is a wake up call, I will be more than happy to help; anything that will help you get to the store easier.
Pete,
For now, we will schedule our games for Saturdays. For now, I'm going to go with the day that works best for everyone, and so far Saturday seems to be that day. If you're interested in the program I used for making the PC, go to this website.
http://www.nzcomputers.net/heroforge/default4e.asp
The program you want is 4E Weisbaden Character Sheet. It's the equivalent from the 3.5 Hero Forge, and you can download it for free. I highly recommend it.
AJ,
Our next scheduled game is going to be Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 am, when the store opens. Is that a good time for you?
Please feel free to ask whatever other questions you may have guys.
Talk to you all later,
~Ben
-
I should definitely be available on that date, unless something very unexpected pops up.
Can't wait to play again! :D
-
Nov 8th should be no problem for me as well i should be able to show up myself.
-
That's great, guys. I'll post up the name of the module(s) I'll run once I've ordered them. Hopefully, we'll get just as good a turn out, if not better than last time.
~Ben
-
ya that should be fine for me and this sounds like a stupud question but are you allowing the new forgotten realms players guide?
-
are you allowing the new forgotten realms players guide?
Yes, all the splash books are LFR legal. You can be a Genasi or Drow, or a Swordmage. Just be sure your PC remains on a 22 point buy.
I'll post the module(s) and the blurb for each once I've ordered them, which will be within the next couple of days. The muster list will be up then as well.

my character is a genasi swordmage
Thanks, AJ.
-
Ben, can anyone drop down and play in these? I can't make the 8th unfortunately, but in general I should be able to show up pretty regularly.
-
Yup, that's the beauty of a Living game.
Tables are limited to 6 players and each module has a level range that it's meant to be run at, but otherwise yeah, anyone can come with a character and play.
-
Ben, can anyone drop down and play in these? I can't make the 8th unfortunately, but in general I should be able to show up pretty regularly.
Yes, you can drop in and play them during any scheduled day. At the moment, all the players currently playing are still low level (most are level 2, if not 1). That being said, you can jump in at the beginning of any scheduled module, so long as there is an open seat.
I'm planning on scheduling them regularly at BG, hopefully on a bi-weekly basis at least. If the 8th is bad for you, just keep checking the msg board for the next scheduled game day. I'll post a muster list similar to the one for this weekend, and it would help to know what kind of character you're playing before the gameday comes.
Hope to see you around next time!

Also, if you intend on playing both slots, and suspect your PC to level inbetween slots, bring a NEXT level version of your PC, to save time from having to level between the slots.
Thanks guys,

Ben, Rachael and I will be there for the afternoon session.

I spoke to AJ earlier, and he has personally told me he wanted to play, which is why I'm adding him to the muster now. AJ, this is the last time I'm doing this for you. Next time you'll need to come to the msg board and make it known you're playing.
And don't forget to bring a next level version of your PC's if you suspect that they will level between slots. Also remember that it's still $4 per slot.
See you guys this weekend,
~Ben
-
So just to get an idea, how many of you think that that Saturday is good for a game or two? I seem to recall at least 3 people saying yes.
Please confirm if you are available, and if you need more time to decide, let me know around when you'll know. The sooner the better.
Thanks, guys!
~Ben
-
Yea i can be there Ben.
-
If we are referring to Saturday, November 29th then yes, I can make it with a small caveat. I need to bug out no later then 6:00pm. Given our last couple runs, I really don't think this will be a problem.
-
Hey guys,
Until I get confirmation that more people are going to play, I'm only going to schedule one adventure this Saturday. If more people sign up by Wednesday, I'll consider scheduling a second one. Until then, we're going to go with one adventure for now.
That being said, let the muster begin.
Slot 1: 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
CORE 1-3 Sense of Wonder
You are summoned to help a cleric of Gond Wonderbringer, who seeks the location of a lost temple to the Lord of All Smiths. Think of all the marvelous inventions, lost since the Spellplague came crashing down on the nation of Lantan, that might lie waiting to be rediscovered and brought back to the lands of Faerûn! A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in the Nelanther Isles for characters levels 1-4.
DM: Ben
Pete - Warlock 3
Bill - Cleric 2
4 seats open
Note - At the moment, we will be starting at 11:00 am, instead of 10:00. If we end up running two this weekend, then the time will be changed back to 10:00 am.
Hope to see you guys Saturday!
-
Ben,
Unfortunately Rachael and I won't be able to make it; gonna be travelling to PA...
-Adrian
-
Understood, Adrian. I suspected that there wouldn't be as much players this week, with the holiday just before it.
Have fun in PA, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
~Ben
-
Just to let you guys know, there's a Warhammer 40k Tournament that starts at 11:00am this coming Saturday the 29th and will likely run into the early evening. I can not guarantee that there will be a place for you guys to sit down and play.
It may be a good idea to push these LFR games back a week or two.
Sorry I haven't kept up with the LFR schedule a bit better guys. I should have brought this up much earlier.
-
I won't be able to make it to the game on saturday, work popped up :-\
but i should definitely be available for the next game.
-
Thanks for the update, Chase. And from the looks of things, I don't think the game is going to happen this week, afterall.
Thanks for the notice, Todd. I know work can be a bitch.
So unless there's a sudden rush of players by Friday, I think I'll reschedule our game for another time. I'll let you all know once I've planned a date.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
~Ben
-
Sounds good to me.

Anyone else having trouble with the wizards/rpga site where you cannot add in your character to their database? I have been trying for a few weeks after we started and there is no option and when i try to go to the members page of the rpga it just gives a load error everytime.
-
I was going to ask if anyone had tried joining the site yet. I've been going every so often, and I haven't had any trouble with it.
If this continues to be a problem, I can try adding you all to the site, and then you can go in and add your PC's to the site.
Has anyone else tried? Let me know if you're having the same trouble.
-
I just emailed their customer service so i have everything up and running now. It was telling me that i didnt have an active rpga account so they customer service person just added it in.
-
I was able to join, but I have no idea how to look for my events that I attended or the rewards I would get. Its a very confusing site.
-
Hi guys,
Well, normally I'd be planning a game for the 13th, but as it turns out I need to do some things to plan towards my wedding. So unfortunately, I won't be able to DM that day.
That being said, if anyone is interested in DM'ing to the group (for a small change of pace), let me know, and you guys can still have your game day. DM'ing LFR is relatively easy, and if you've DM'ed before in a home game, it shouldn't be too difficult.
Let me know if you are interested in DM'ing, and I'll post something for Saturday.
Note - If you DM, you will get store credit equal to the amount paid in total by each player. ie - If 4 players play and pay $4 each, you will get $16 in store credit. It's a really nice deal!
That's all for now.
~Ben
-
Hey. I came to the store today, and was pointed in the direction of this thread. :P
I'm relatively new to D&D, but I shouldn't be completely lost. I have the rulebooks and all that.
So, if you'll have me, anything in particular I should post here? A preferred character, or something?
Also, I was told it was unlikely, but I'd just like to double-check.
Would it be possible for me to play a gnoll character? He wouldn't be evil, and I'd develop a reasonable backstory for him, if it's any consolation. :D
-
Hi Gaz,
First off, welcome to Living Forgotten Realms thread. Once every other week, I will organize a game or two on a Saturday at the store. The adventures I run are part of the living campaign in the world of Forgotten Realms, and each adventure takes roughly between 3-4 hours of playing time.
All of your PC(s) start at level 1, and by playing each adventure, you gain XP, GP, and access to magical items that you can get for free. I would read up on the Living Forgotten Realms campaign thread on Wizards.com for more details and info.
At the moment, the next game that I am tentatively scheduling is for Saturday, Dec. 27. Usually by the beginning of each game week, I will post a muster list on this thread, and people will reply that they are going to play, and what PC that they will be using.
As for playing a Gnoll, I'm not sure if they're legal in LFR yet, but you can probably find out at the Wizards site. I recommend looking there first. All PC's can not be of an Evil alignment either. Sorry, but that's just how the rules for LFR go. And as sad as this sounds, backstories aren't necessary for this kind of play.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
~Ben
LFR Coordinator at Battleground Games
-
All I could find in terms of gnolls, was this; http://www.wizards.com/files/367_Playing_Gnolls.pdf (http://www.wizards.com/files/367_Playing_Gnolls.pdf)
Just 4th edition rules, doesn't say anything about LFR, but it's no big deal. If not, I'll just be a dragonborn. :)
At any rate, I'm really looking forward to it.
-Gary
-
The RPGA rules for creating characters is here (RPGA Character Creation Guide v1.7):
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/news/20081023
Short story - So long as you have the full version of Dungeon Magazine, you can use the information provided inside it. The individual articles are not valid as they may be changed by the time the magazine is "printed".
-
Well, that particular issue of Dragon Magazine is available for download, so I guess it's legit...
Y'know, if this all too complicated and you'd rather me just roll a regular race, that's perfectly fine with me. I don't want to start off on the wrong foot and have you all think I'm needlessly... particular, or variant, or something. :P
At any rate, you can put me down for either; gnoll fighter, or dragonborn paladin, if that slot/role is available.
Also, should I fill out a Character Record Sheet at home, and bring it to the store, or should I fill it out there, when I start?
-
Just a recommendation, but we tend to be pretty heavy on the defender roles, so a leader, controller or striker would probably be the BEST thing for the group. Between the two choices you gave, a paladin would work better (IMHO) if you focused on the healing aspect of the class.
As an FYI, I play a warlock and I fully intend to use the Dragon Magazine spells and feats from one of their other magazines.
-
and normally i run with my cleric so more heals are always good
-
And what about the Character Record Sheets?
-
You can fill out a Character Record Sheet when you start.
Now, as for our game, I need to ask the group if they'd be available on Sunday, the 28th, instead of the 27th.
I have some family plans that weekend in NJ, which is why Saturday is no good for me this week. Please let me know if Sunday's good for everyone.
~Ben
-
Sunday should be fine for me. I will have to see whats goin on but dont think its a problem.
-
sunday should be fine for me as well
-
I will have to pass. I have parties to go to and friends coming in from out of town/state/country.
-
Sunday, same time? I'll try my very best to be there.
-
I won't be around this weekend unfortunately...probably out of service til 1/5 or so.
-
a friend of mine is interested in playing, but he still hasn't decided.
i should know by the end of today if hes going to or not.
-
ok unfortunately he is out, and from what it looks like, at least from this thread, he would've been our fourth.
hehe i hope im wrong :P
-
Well, we'll see what happens.
Also, please remember that the store opens tomorrow at 11:00 am. We need to start ASAP, b/c there're going to be a lot of other events going on in the store later in the day.
See you guys tomorrow!
~Ben
PS - Sorry for not posting a blurb. This past week has been a little hectic for me. Thanks for understanding!
-
I had a great time, and I'm really looking forward to the next game. Thanks so much for helping me get the hang of things, guys. Hopefully my newbiness didn't slow you all down too much. :P
-Gary
-
Not at all, Gary. Just be sure to read up some more on the rules and combat situations. My suggestion is to download heroforge, which is an Excel program, that lets you make your PC's on the computer, and then transfer the data onto a printable character sheet.
I uploaded the link somewhere in the thread... I'm pretty sure its on the first or second page. Let me know if you have trouble finding it or working the program once you've downloaded it.
See you soon!
-
So, do you think there will be a game this weekend, and if so, if it will be on saturday or sunday?
-
Just a quick question for Ben.
I've been looking through martial power, and i was wondering if its possible for me to change some of my powers to the new ones listed in martial power, instead of waiting to change one at each level through retraining.
If its not allowed either by LFR's rules or your own, i've got no problem, i just thought i'd make sure.
thanks in advance :)
-
It tends to be every other weekend, barring weddings, holidays and such.
As it is Friday and no post yet, I'll bet there's nothing going on this weekend.
-
Hey Ben just so you know I finnaly got my character registered , I registered my character as Jayden Brosh
-
Ben,
Will there be a game this Saturday (1/10) or is that the day of the Mega-Battle?
-A
-
Unfortunately, I highly doubt there will be room for a LFR game this weekend; it is in fact, the Megabattle weekend.
D.
-
Bah and Humbug. My Christmas season has been short of any good D&D games. I was hoping for the trifecta this weekend (Sunday and Monday I have some friendly games going on).
-
Ben,
Will there be a game this Saturday (1/10) or is that the day of the Mega-Battle?
-A
Sorry, Adrian, but there won't be any LFR this coming weekend. I spoke to a few people last time we had LFR at the shop, and due to work issues, I am doubtful that LFR will take place this month at BG, unless someone else is willing to take the reigns as DM for a day or two.
That being said though, I have no problems with assisting with the details of organizing a module, if someone would like to volunteer to DM.
Otherwise, I'll let everyone know when I'm available to run again at BG.
Hey Ben just so you know I finnaly got my character registered , I registered my character as Jayden Brosh
Is this AJ?
-
Ya its AJ this is my new account and Jayden Brosh is my character
-
are we playing any time this week?
-
If i remember correctly, we won't be playing again until some time in February
-
Sorry guys, but yes. Although my trip to Montana got delayed, I've spend the past 2 weeks in MD, and plan on spending a 3rd next week. I'll let you all know as soon as I'm around again.
Please continue to check periodically on this thread for the next scheduled game. I'll post up the muster at least a week before the game's scheduled date.
Thanks for understanding, guys. Talk to you all soon.
~Ben
-
LFR guys, you may want to check out our arena event thread (Memorial Slaughter). It will be run on Saturday afternoon, has no entry fee and should prove to be a lot of fun.
Since you all are familiar with eachother and often play as a group it seems like it may be the event for you!
Hope to see you guys there that morning.
-Chase
-
I was planning on attending, but my friend has a D&D themed run (for his birthday) that very day. I need more days in February. Preferably weekends or holidays.
-
can i play as a player? let me know when and what to do
-
Hey guys! I'm back for the weekend, and I'll be running 2 NEW adventures at Battlegrounds this Saturday.

Hope to see you this Saturday!
~Ben

-
I'm pretty sure you were at least level 2, Bill. I'll put you down as level 2 for now.
~Ben
-
Ben,
My DCI number is 7210-147-198.
I'll throw together a new character for our next run. I'm leaning towards Druid or Shaman right now.
-
Ben when will you be running another one of these? I had a blast at the one you ran last time, which was my introduction to this setup.
-
Hey Jonathan,
I'm not sure when I'll be in town again to run an LFR game on the weekend again, but the last time I was there, Cookie mentioned he was going to take the DM test on WotC site. If he does that, and passes, he can run adventures the same way I did for you guys that night. You could try talking to him to see if he's made any progress with that.
I'm glad you had a lot of fun too. It's a shame I can't do this regularly with the players at BG, but hopefully my schedule will free up soon.
I'll be around next week, but most likely not on the weekends. Hope to see you then.
~Ben
-
Ben,
let me know when the next lfr game will be for a new character
-
Hail and well met!
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! Well, as some of you know, I will be in town this weekend, and I'm thinking about running an LFR adventure on Sunday, starting at 10 am, as usual. If any if you are around and/or interested in playing LFR, please feel free to come by. Once I get an idea of what my head count is, I will post the mod and blurb.
Hope to see you Sunday!
-
