Sunday July 1st BG:Abington will be hosting a day of death, spiders and maniacal laughter.
Do you think you have the skills to survive WoTCs latest Lair Asault: SPIDERKILLER!
The Drow take a 'stab' at fighting off BG's best and brightest Min/Maxers in a one shot timed Event. This event will focus on a party of stalwart adventurers attempting to disrupt whatever nefarious schemes the Children of LOLTH are brewing. The rules for character creation will be posted below. The event will be run all day, as long as people want to die, and you will die. bring multiple characters, plan a group of 5 adventurers if you can, or just drop in and we will slip you in with the next available group of Red Shirts.
It should be a great time!
CHARACTER CREATION
Our most skilled players spoke, and we listened. When they’re tackling the deadliest fights in 4th Edition, they want options. Unlike D&D Encounters and other shared-world campaigns, D&D Lair Assault allows players to utilize the entire breadth of the 4th Edition rules. Any legal character build of the appropriate level, using options from official Wizards products, is permissible in D&D Lair Assault. A great way to sort through the rules and make effective characters is through the Character Builder online tool available to D&D Insider subscribers.
Yes, that means all those books, both old and new, are resources for players to create the most deadly team of adventurers possible. They can pull out an old favorite from the Player’s Handbook, grab something from the latest releases like Dungeon Survival Handbook, or augment their options with rules from Dragon. If it’s a 4th Edition rules source printed by Wizards, it’s legal for play.
Gearing Up for Danger
Each D&D Lair Assault challenge will specify a level. The third D&D Lair Assault, Spiderkiller, is 9th level. Players bring characters of the challenge’s level to your scheduled event to participate. Characters higher or lower level than the challenge’s level are not allowed.
We use straightforward rules to equip characters for their deadly battles. Each character receives one magic item of one level higher than their level (level + 1), one of their level (level + 0), and one of one level lower than their level (level – 1). In addition, characters receive gold pieces equal to the value of one magic item of one level lower than their level (level – 1) to buy other equipment they think they’ll need. Each character may have no more than two consumable items (like potions or magic ammunition) equal to or less than the challenge’s level, and no more than one rare magic item. Note that players may equip their characters with magic items that are less than the stated levels if they so choose.
So, to use our 9th level example above, each character would have one 8th level, one 9th level and one 10th level magic item, plus 3,400 gold pieces to spend on other equipment (both mundane and magical).

Sounds like fun. Is this a one encounter shot like "Encounters", or is it an actual dungeon.
-
Ron: It is an actual dungeon, with a start a middle and an End. No real role playing elements just a very difficult dungeon designed to kill and murder adventurers.

I can be there, but it won't be till after 4:30.

LET'S DO THIS!!! The return of Elthur!
-
Sadly, it will likely be the demise of Elthur too. :(

"Sadly, it will likely be the demise of Elthur too."
Then we should definitely do this ;)
-
BTW I just put together a controller for this.

I highly recommend min/maxing the absolute shit out of your entire party. Lair Assault is NO JOKE. I'd go as far as to say that it's impossible to accomplish your first time through without some knowledge of what the "dungeon" is going to present. Assuming, of course, that your DM is actively trying to kill you... Like Lair Assault encourages. ;)
It is DESIGNED to kill players.
Example: The first time Sam ran Lair Assualt here (the first season, the fire dungeon) the PC's didn't make it out of the first room.

So is this kinda like tomb of horrors??
-
The weird thing is that since you do not know what your up against, Min-Maxing might not be such a good idea. I mean, will it be hoards of monsters, or death traps, or both? Min-Maxing for one will get you killed by one of the others, so a good Team might be the best thing. Of course I've never been through this before so I could be completely wrong.
-
You've gotta make sure your team can kill stuff with the quickness and not die, ever.

So is this kinda like tomb of horrors??
Way, way, way, way, way worse than the 4e version of Tomb of Horrors.

Hey Drew, you should make a battle cleric of Banjo the Clown (orthodox)

I am planning on being there after 4:30P. With drew, and hopefully two to three more people.
-
Bad news, I can't make it. I need to go down to the show my non-profit is putting on. Sorry guys.
-
But, But, But,......YOUR the leader?!
You can't "not be there".
That's just crazy talk.
-
Is there any way to do this next week? When will you be free?
-
I can do the week after next, does that work?
-
I will be running the Lair Assault Tomorrow for whomever can make it. That doesn't mean the Lair assault can't be run at a later date. My summer is filling up fast with plans, so it might be a bit before I can run it, but I will keep people informed when it will be run in Abington.

Ok, just let us know when you can do it and we'll try to organize a group.
