The Warhammer 40,000 SIXTH Edition Rules will be used.

The following is a list of legal army choices:

Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Grey Knights

MODELS AND POINTS:

1. Each player must bring an army consisting of 1850 points (but no fewer than 1825), in accordance with these rules...

2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model.

3. Pictures of conversions or "counts as" models must be emailed to the Tournament Organizer unless they have previously been approved.

4. Warlord Traits - At the start of each game, before deployment, select two tables.  Roll a die for each table.  Choose ONE of the two results as your Warlord Trait for that game.

5. Psychic Powers - Players will choose and determine their psychic powers at the start of each game, before deployment.

6. Unfortunately, Forge World Imperial Armor units (and army lists) may NOT be used in this event.  Forge world models may be used where appropriate, however.

7. We will require that each participant submits an itemized army list to a Battleground Tournament Organizer on or before Friday, 12/28/2012 (roughly a week before the event).  An Army Builder .pdf is preferred but a detailed text file (.txt) is acceptable.  PLEASE include the number of points each upgrade and unit costs on your list.

Please email lists to ChaseLaq@gmail.com as soon as they are finalized.

8. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition, tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt, please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.

9.  Restrictions:

       • This event will not use "Mysterious Terrain" (p.102-103).
       • This event will not use "Archotech Artefacts" (p 106).
       • This event will not use "Unique Terrain" (p. 107).
       • This event will not allow The Fortress of Redemption.

A version of 3 of the following SCENARIOS will be used. (http://www.battlegroundgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=5009.0)

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you will play a different opponent.  Each round will last 2 hours and players will be given 15 minutes to deploy before this timer starts.

• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (based on the number of points they've scored) e.g., the player in first place will play the player in second place and so on. We will try our best not to pair players that come to the event together or regularly play each other in the first round. If a player receives a BYE they will be awarded the average of the winning players points for the round.

• You will not play the same person twice.

• We will do our best to prevent a player from playing on the same table twice.

• The pairings for each round will be announced as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to arrive at your table ready to play right away.

• Slow playing will NOT be tolerated.  Players are expected to complete at least 4 rounds in each game.  If you suspect your opponent is slow playing PLEASE notify a Battleground staff member as soon as possible as we can not do anything about alleged slow play after the fact.

• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.

• Players will receive Results Sheets and Player's Choice Sheets for each round at the beginning of the event. Each results sheet must be filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once the sheets are completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the computer.

BATTLES:

The SIXTH Edition Rulebook and FAQ will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2 hours. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; players will need to finish the round as quickly as possible.

What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least TWO copies of your army list
-Rulebooks are required as are any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table

STORE CREDIT AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO:
Store credit is good for any product in the store and all subsequent events.  It never expires and will be saved for you.

Best General

Player's Choice

These two awards will be among the most significant Battleground has ever awarded.

• A player may only receive one award.

This would be true if we had a painting requirement  :P  ;D

I would have had no issue with a painting requirement if it was known a while ago.

While not required, the history of scoring bears out that the players of unpainted armies will not win Player's Choice.

Victory Points will be defined as follows:

Units Destroyed
At the end of the game, every unit that has been destroyed is worth an amount of Victory Points equal to its points cost (including the cost of all its extra wargear, vehicle upgrades, etc). Units that end the game falling back or off the battlefield count as destroyed.

Units at Half Strength
At the end of the game, every enemy surviving unit that has lost half of its initial models or more is worth an amount of Victory Points equal to half its points cost (including the cost of all its extra wargear, vehicle upgrades, etc), rounded down. In the case of units that start the game as a single model (independent characters, monstrous creatures, etc), they are worth half their points in composition points if they have lost half or more of the Wounds on their profile. In the case of vehicles, they are worth half their points cost in Victory Points if they are suffering from the effects of any Damaged result at the end of the game; or if they have lost half or more of the Hull Points on their profile.

The quarter scoring for the Lateral Quarters mission is being significantly revised to read as follows:

Scoring of each lateral quarter will be decided by Victory Points. To score a table quarter, total the point values of any remaining Scoring AND Denial units in that quarter to find their Victory Point Total. The player with the highest Victory Point Total in each lateral quarter scores the appropriate amount of points, as detailed on the diagram.

How are generated units such as termagants being handled for VPs and KPs? Are they base cost for purposes of scoring quarters and opponent scoring VP? Are they worth nothing in both cases? Are they worth KP?

For the record, they HAVE to be at least worth KP, because my stupid drones spawned off a Devil fish are officially worth a KP.

The rest I think is a legit question.

The invite roster has been updated.  It's shaping up VERY well, with only 1 person of the original 32 not being able to make it.  :)

Competition should be fierce.

I presented the Termagant questions to Sam, and asked him to consider Chaos Spawn / Daemon Princes as well.

Spawned termagants will count for Victory Points and such, using the baseline cost in the codex. NOVA went that way, which is good enough for me.

CSM models turning into spawn and such from Chaos Boons aren't counted as killed until they actually die, so that's easy. In that case, they keep their normal VPs until slain. The Daemon version, where you turn an opponent into a spawn, is murkier. They have no VP cost (since the FAQ knocked that out), so you can't have the spawn be worth anything after that. So I'd rule that they give VPs and KPs as if killed when they first mutate and change ownership, and are worth no VPs after that (though they can give up a KP if killed a second time).

I really have to disagree Sam, if creating a new unit is worth VPs for Tyranids, why is it not the case for Chaos?

1) you can't ever "untransform" something, so it is basically dead, but in turning your lord into a demon or spawn, I agree, it is more of a buff/debuff in terms of in game effect.

2) If I kill one of your models, and it creates a new unit for me, it 100% should be worth KP and VP.  Why would it not be?

The Chaos Spawn is optional to put on the table from the Daemon Codex though. If you have the model you can replace it.

I think Sam. is saying that the Killed Model is worth a KP and/or VP and the Spawn it spawns is not worth anything.

Example: Boon on my Space Marine Captain. He Fails becomes a Spawn Daemon player gets 100 VP and the KP for it but if I kill the Chaos Spawn model it is worth no VP or KP for me.

Yes, that is exactly what he is saying.  I am disagreeing with it.   Creating a new unit should either be worth VPs or not, Regardless of the book used.

It applies to the case where Chaos champions (or whatever) roll on the table to become either a Daemon Prince or Spawn. The Champion isn't killed. It's simply transformed. When the transformed model finally dies, then award VPs equal to the original unit's cost.

Yeah....I fail to see the conflict here.  There is a pretty clear difference between a transformed model and a newly created one.

This would imply the power you can turn an enemy into a spawn.  Or is that no longer possible?

Boon of Mutation is still a thing in the Daemon codex, if that's what you're asking.

Clarification:

In the CSM codex, you can turn one of your own guys into a spawn or a daemon prince. In this case, they're still under your control, so you haven't really lost them. If such models are killed by your opponent later in the game, they are worth whatever victory points they were worth originally, before transformation.

In the Chaos Daemons codex, you can turn an opponent's model into a spawn (which is then under your control). When transformed, the model counts as slain, and immediately grants its Victory Points (per its point total on the army list). The resulting spawn under your control is worth no further Victory Points (as spawn do not have a points cost in the Daemon codex), but it is worth a Kill Point in any mission that keeps track of such things.

You're free to disagree, Keith, but I can't assign a VP total to a unit that doesn't have a points cost in that codex. Different codexes, different rules, different outcomes.

Todd Silber, out of Connecticut (home store The Battle Standard) won Best General - $400 store credit, using his Dark Eldar.  He missed 2 out of a possible 129 battle points.   It's a mixed mech list anchored by a Grotesque deathstar led by Urian and (crap, blanking), the Baron(?).

Alex Fennell (home store also TBS) won Player's Choice, fielding his pink Necrons with Chaos Space Marine allies.  Alex as usual has a mixed bag of stuff; just two flyers in the Necron portion, the CSM were a Daemon Prince and some cultists.  Same prize.

Thanks very much, once again, to Chase, Ben, Sam, and everyone else involved in organizing and running this and other events.  The hard work is much appreciated and it was a ton of fun.  Thanks to Jordan, Tiago, and Dan for three great, fun games, and to the whole crowd of guys who show up at this great store and make these events so sociable and competitive, in particular the guys who always put in the effort to bring fully-painted, attractive armies.  You guys rock!
