‘Fanboy’ Makes It
Into Dictionary
July 8, 2008

(http://www.icv2.com/images/12869MerriamDic-md.JPG)In a sign of the increasing mainstreaming of geek culture, the word “fanboy” has been included in the new edition of the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.  But apparently it’s not that mainstream; the word is defined as a “boy who is an enthusiastic devotee, such as of comics or movies,” rather than the more common usage we see, which applies to a fan type, rather than a particular age.

What about the OED?  They got yadda yadda yadda but do they have fanboy?

Yeah, if the OED doesn't have it, it isn't a word.

Calling websters a dictionary is like calling the Herald a news source.

You mean the Herald isn't a news source?  Just because it isn't owned by the NYT?  The Globe would never lie....right?

You mean the Herald isn't a news source?  Just because it isn't owned by the NYT?  The Globe would never lie....right?
