Hello. I was made aware of new GW price increases on many plastic kits and also blisters. Has anyone else heard about this? I have a list of the products covered by the increase (along with their new prices) at Games Workshop Price Hike Covers 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Specialist Games and More (http://wargamingforums.com/2009/05/23/games-workshop-price-hike-covers-40k-warhammer-fantasy-lord-of-the-rings-specialist-games-and-more/#more-1069). Sorry for the link to my blog, I hate doing that, but the list is mighty long.
Some of the highlights are the Baneblade and Ork Stompa kits will now be $99, Von Carstein General blister (and a lot of other similar WFB general blisters) are going to $22. Quite a few plastic boxes will be $41.25. Don't know where they got the numbers from. Looks like most things are only going up .25 or $1.25 so the increase isn't a lot but it still stings.

are the $3 paint thingys going to get more expensive too?
-
The only increases I know about are in that list. I think I saw some paints listed but it may have only been spray paints. I'm posting this from my iPod so if I switch to check that list I'll lose what I'm posting now. You can double check the list to see if any paints are there. Sadly I don't remember.

With Games Work Shop's sales policy this doesnt surprise me.
-
I can understand a need for an increase in the current economic climate but I guess I'm glad I won't be spending these large sums of cash on more GW stuff for armies. So expensive for an army. Oh well everyone needs to pay the bills.

I'd say it's just addiction.

So GW is holding us hostage and we love them for it?

Stockholm syndrome doesn't work that way. But I think that's basically what GW is doing anyway.
-
I think we all need therepy then.

I concur with you there, it is a given.
-
Do they make a medication to stop the GW Stockholm syndrome?
-
I think it is marketed under the name "Go Outside With Girls and People." I hear it is also good for curing gamer complexion and the dreaded G.S. Doesn't work overnight but it slowly cures the illness.

I took a dose of "Grow the Hell Up and Get Some Nerd Pride" and it worked great!

Ooh new on the market, untested results for some trial groups but could turn into a late favorite.

sounds like a nice cure

Man, this warrants responses unable to be conveyed on a family friendly forum.

uggg... this economy blows
-
if the economy is bad, and everybody has less money, why is GW increasing their prices?
-
Because they are most likely not as badly affected in other countries. I think in the UK GW is practicly a house hold name when it comes to games.

People seem to always have money for gaming. It is a distraction from the real world and it lasts. Games (especially board but also miniatures) have a lasting appeal. They can be reused ad naseum and still produce elation. That is huge and usually worth the expenditure of funds.

QFT.
Also, the gaming industry typically does not work the same way as others. Many rules of business simply do not apply to companies like Games Workshop.

Ian speaks the truth.

Heck yes and a bump to what Steve said.
-
so that means GW is increaseing their prices because they know that we will buy them anyways? :'(
-
There could be a number of factors involved in their decision, but that seems like a reasonable assessment. Never forget that even though they make great games, they are a publicly traded company who's real business is making money.
