With the 40k Campaign in Abington starting to wind down, would people be interested in starting up a gaming night for 40k In Abington? I would hope we could get a night with similar turn out to Plainville, and have a night people would be able to drop in and either play a pickup game or two, or possibly have a chance to learn the game.
With the current schedule in Abington and not to conflict with Plainville, I think Tuesday or Wednesday night would be a good choice. Who would be interested in this? What people would be willing to show up for a few weeks in a row to get it started?
-
I'd be down, there's a good group of folks, and I've definitely enjoyed playing many of them during the campaign. My preference would be Tuesday or Wednesday as well. Obviously, this is going to be next to impossible to schedule equitably, as everybody has conflicts all the time. That said, I say pick a day, and let's see how it goes...
-
I approve this message. I approve it as much as it can possibly be approved.
If it counts for anything, Tuesday is probably a better bet. Abington has 20+ Magic players for a tournament every Wednesday and EVENTUALLY will start running D&D Encounters.
Nothing much goes on there on Tuesdays.
-
I am so down. I'll post what days I'm off in a thread if need be. My signature says it all!
-
Tuesdays are one of the best days for me. I would really like to start playing 40K in Abington again.
-
Tuesday +1
-
Sigh I usually work Tuesdays oh well
-
I already have a name. "Tuesday 40k."

Tuesday 40k!
-
How does October 1st work for a start date?
-
You should start 9/17.
-
around what time would it start and would you be willing to let people just learning the new rules play

thats the whole point of a casual night, for people of all skill levels and to bring new players into the hobby.
As for start time the one in plainville has people showing up usually around 6 or 7 but theres always others getting there before that as well
-
Alright. I'm getting this started off right. 40K Tuesday in Abington begins THIS Tuesday, 9/17. I'll be by at around 5, maybe 5:30. I'll bring some pizzas if folks are interested. See you then!
-
Just Brad being Brad... :)
-
Okay, i will be there this Tuesday. If you want to learn this would the perfect chance. I will be showing up for at least 4 weeks around 5:30.
-
Very good!
-
I have to work this Tuesday but Ill be there the next Tuesday with Brandan and ty

Just do what you can to make work work around things that you love, Steve.
-
by the time i get out of work store is closed :(
-
Loving the excitement for Abington 40k. sadly i'm typically stuck in the city until 10pm on tuesdays. All this talk makes me want to play, though!
-
Steve, Andrew, I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it. Unfortunately, regardless of the night we pick, someone isn't going to be able to make it. If we find that nobody comes over the course of a few weeks, then perhaps a change of day is in order. For now, we should go with Tuesday simply because we said we were going with Tuesdays. I feel your pain though, I wasn't able to do ANY 40k for about 2 months because of work, and that sucked. I just did what I could to make things happen, and now I'm more available.
Everyone else: See you tonight.
-
Alright, I'm leaving work early, just for this. See you guys down there in a bit!
-
So who will be there on 9/24?
-
for once my work gave me the weekend off O.o. Saturday i have to dogey sit i doubt Abington will allow a massive German Shepard in training to be a therapy dog in XD. Ill swing by Saturday night once im done sitting if any one wants a small game.
-
How was the attendance for the first week? Things start slow but I think one of the best things Ben did / does for the Plainville thread is recap what games were played.
-
Brad and I were the only one to play. It was close game of Grey Knights vs. Lementers with him winning. Murph was there painting, and Tom Callahan and Steve Riley were there earlier in the night, but had to leave.
-
I'm seriously considering make a trip up to Abington next Tuesday.
-
I will be there on Tuesday. Anyone else planning on showing up?
-
I'll be there. Hoping to see more faces.
-
Tuesdays are rough, had more luck of late with Games on Saturday eve and sometimes even a Friday.
I'll swing by when I'm able from time to time.
-
I have tomorrow off but i dont think ill see 40k players if i show :-\
-
I don't have a vehicle right now but am trying to find a way to start getting down more often to play. I have been painting a lot more and trying to work on list.
-
brandan and I should be there
-
Anybody want to play a game tomorrow?
-
I should be there between 4:30 and 5:00. Steve, I think you should attend, there should be a significant number of us (in comparison to three, which is what we had last week).
-
cant i have to work im not free till thursday

How many are going? I will only go if I can be guaranteed a game
-
Heads up: as of tonight, only one table is set up for mini gaming.

Are you sure? Are there plans to open up more tables?

WARNING: SARCASM AHEAD!
awesome ::)

So, 40k night (as far as I know, I left early) was a bust last night. There were 3 people, and no games. Also, only 1 table, so the possibility of more than 1 game wasn't even there. :(
-
Definition of weak. Imma get on some folks.
-

It only takes a few minutes to put tables together and they are all in the storage room, so that definitely wouldn't have been an issue.
Also, one or two people came in after you left at 6 PM, but nobody was there at the same time.
-
I showed up 10 minutes after you left Brad; got caught at work for a few minutes so I missed you. I will normally get there between 5:30 and 6.
-
I was planning on going but no one confirmed a game with me. Also no one clarified on how to resolve the 1 table issue.
-
The one table thing is a simple fix. Abington has wooden frames that fit over the card / board game tables to make it easy to expand / contract based on what's going on in the store at a given time.
The 1 table was just left over from this weekend's Prerelease. I'm sure that by Thursday night (when the WM/H dudes get together there) that there will be a bunch of tables set up and ready to go.
Getting Tuesday 40k is happen in Abington just requires some persistence. Don't give up. Keep coming. If you're unsure of whether or not to stop by or you're running late, just give a call.
It seems like there's a decent amount of interest, which is great.
-
While it is easy to get the tables put up if they aren't, it is infinitely nicer to have them up when the extra space isn't required for an event. Aside from being much more convenient, it makes for a more inviting atmosphere. I would certainly feel less welcome on WM days if the tables were down.
-
In the event of table shortage...
Play Doubles. Ask a BG employee to set up more tables.
And persistence pays off. Back in the day, there were many nights Plainville had only one table running. If you make the evening good enough, people will make time for the evening.
-
:-\ tuesday's are a 40/60 day for me, sometimes i have morning/afternoon shifts, but most of the time i have night shifts getting out between 6 PM to 10 PM

Yeah, I know. Plugging and chugging, as it were. Not really worried about the single table thing, just the whole night was frustrating.
-
It may be a silly question, but is Tuesday really the best night?
What about Monday or Saturday?
-
Saturday is like a free gaming day I think at both stores and when you have an event of any kind you lose a lot of space to play on Saturday. Monday looking at the Abington Google Calendar has nothing going on that day.
I feel people should try to schedule matches on a day they are free. Aim for Tuesday and Monday and hopefully you can all start playing on the same day. If it wasn't for Gas and Time Constraints I would Grace Abington with my Hat a big part of the Success of Plainville's 40k Scene.
-
Consistency is key, which makes Saturdays surprisingly terrible.
-
I'm not against changing the day, but I will echo Ben's point about consistency being key. No day is going to be convenient for everybody, so, IMO, we just need to pick a day, stick with it, and make it an event worth prioritizing.
-
I should be there tonight between 5:30 and 6. i hope to get a game or two in.
-
I have to work tonight but should be there next tuesday
-
I will definitely not be there tonight, and the next few (4-8) Tuesday 40k's are going to be hit or miss for me. We're delivering a new, insanely ambitious robot in November...
-
Hi guys is anyone going to be in Abington this Tuesday night around 5 or so would like to try playing a small game to get used to the rules .
Dave
-
PRO TIP: New players are lifeblood of any gaming community. If you see a new guy, say hi, play a small game with him, explain the rules as they come up and try to remember his name.
-
Nah. Dave and his son have been around for a while at least 2-3 mega battles. That being said there is a good chance I wil tl be there just like the previous weeks.
-
Sorry guys felt crappy all day put my stuff in the car went in house and sat down for a min.
and fell asleep see you in two weeks
-
I might get in on this. I just bought a riptide for no reason.
-
What night do people actually want to do this, and would be able to show up?
I think for the store Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are the best options. I have a feeling Monday will not work well for a lot of people.
Please post what day works for you if you would plan on coming to a weekly 40k night.
-
I appreciate what you're doing Chris, I want 40k night at Abington to be successful as well. The problem with simply asking what night works for everyone is that no night works for everyone. I've talked a lot with Chase, Sam, and Ben (Boulanger) about how Thursday night 40k got off the ground. Basically, to get people to show up to a 40k night, you have to have people at the 40k night. Thursday night wasn't picked because it was an especially convenient day for everyone, but now that it's so successful, it's something that's worth prioritizing over other things for that community.
As silly as it sounds, if you build it (in the sense of getting multiple players to routinely show up for MONTHS on end, at a defined time and place) they will come. Honestly, I'm not the right person to get this off the ground. I don't know a ton of people very well at Abington. If you do, email a bunch of people, and say "HEY! COME TO ABINGTON ON NIGHT XYZ!". Then, put up a forum post saying HOLY CRAP 10 PEOPLE ARE COMING! YOU COME TOO! HAVE FUNTIMES WITH PLASTIC DUDESMANS!
-
People have to commit and not give up just because of one bad Thursday as well.
As Brad is well aware sometimes at Thursday 40k we might only have 2 tables going, other times we've got 8.
Don't show up to one where not much is going on and never show up again judging off that one night
-
Bingo.
-
If we're looking at Mon - Thur, then the way things are going a Wednesday would work best for me, when I'm not travelling.
I usually try and get a game in on the weekend too but, for a 40k night my vote is pretty much restricted to Weds....
"Hump Day"
Cheers,
