MODELS AND POINTS:

0. This event WILL allow the double Force Org.

1. Each player must bring an army consisting of 2500 points (but no fewer than 2475), in accordance with these rules...

2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model.

3. Pictures of conversions or "counts as" models must be emailed to ChaseLaq@gmail.com unless they have previously been approved.

4. Warlord Traits - At the start of each game, before deployment, select two tables.  Roll a die for each table.  Choose ONE of the two results as your Warlord Trait for that game.

5. Psychic Powers - At the start of each game, prior to deployment, players may choose to select the psychic powers listed in their Codex as normal OR swap them for a number of rolls on the psychic disciplines tables per the Warhammer 40,000 rule book. Unless stated otherwise, you MAY NOT mix and match Codex and rule book powers.

6. Forge World Imperial Armor units (and army lists) ARE allowed in this event.  Units must bear the "40k Approved" stamp to be played.

7. We will require that each participant submits an itemized army list to a Battleground Tournament Organizer on or before Monday, November 11th (roughly a week before the event).  An Army Builder .pdf is preferred but a detailed text file (.txt) is acceptable.  PLEASE include the number of points each upgrade and unit costs on your list.

Please email lists to ChaseLaq@gmail.com as soon as they are finalized.

8. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition, tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt, please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.

9.  Restrictions:

       • This event will not use "Mysterious Terrain" (p.102-103).
       • This event will not use "Archotech Artefacts" (p 106).
       • This event will not use "Unique Terrain" (p. 107).
       • This event will not allow The Fortress of Redemption or Skyshield Landing Pad.
       • If Fortifications are taken, an opponent may request, at any point, that it function as if it were the GW default.

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you will play a different opponent.  Each round will last 3 hours.  There will be no additional time given for deployment.

• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (based on the number of points they've scored) e.g., the player in first place will play the player in second place and so on. We will try our best not to pair players that come to the event together or regularly play each other in the first round. If a player receives a BYE they will be awarded either maximum or the average of the winning players points for the round, depending on turn out.

• You will not play the same person twice.

• We will do our best to prevent a player from playing on the same table twice.

• The pairings for each round will be announced as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to arrive at your table ready to play right away.

• Slow playing will NOT be tolerated.  Players are expected to complete at least 4 rounds in each game.  If you suspect your opponent is slow playing PLEASE notify a Battleground staff member as soon as possible as we can not do anything about alleged slow play after the fact.

• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.

• Players will receive Results Sheets and Player's Choice Sheets for each round at the beginning of the event. Each results sheet must be filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once the sheets are completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the computer.

BATTLES:

The exact scenarios will not be posted before the event but will resemble the book missions.  We may or may not adapt them to our needs for this 3 round event.

The SIXTH Edition Rulebook and FAQ will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide for all rules. The time limit for each game is 3 hours. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; players will need to finish the round as quickly as possible.

What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least TWO copies of your army list
-Rulebooks are required as are any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table

STORE CREDIT AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO:
Store credit is good for any product in the store and all subsequent events.  It never expires and will be saved for you.

Best General
Second Best General
Third Best General
Fourth Best General (only awarded if the turnout is 36 players or higher)

Best Appearance - Army (individual) [Note:  Players MUST DISPLAY ALL of the models that are present on their army list.  Players may not omit models or display models that are not part of the list they are playing in the event.  If a player is found breaking this rule, he will forfeit his chance at this award.]

Players Choice - The Players Choice award will go to the player that the others feel best reflects important aspects of the hobby.  Every team will score their opponents on sportsmanship, theme, appearance, and overall awesomeness.  **This award will be significant.**

Smokin' Boots - You got crushed... and you deserve an award for your epic failure.

A player may only win one award with the exception of Best Appearance, which may go to any player participating in the event, regardless of their finish / other awards.

• A note on the Appearance award - We will award the individual who we feel has the best looking army. We will use a scoring rubric that looks at painting, basing, display boards, and various other "extras" to determine the winner.  Here is a link to the rubric we will use. Whoever is running this thing in Abington needs to keep everything going on time as well (make sure lunch doesn't go long, when a round ends chase those 2 guys who always take 20 minutes to hand their sheets in) or nobody is getting out of this till midnight lol

OK :)

ONE OF EACH GREATER DAEMON will be in my list.

It will be the "chaos cup".  I'll keep track of what each greater daemon kills, and whoever gets the most at the end will win the Cup for his / her patron God.

I tried to do this at last 2000pt tourney... hopefully this time I won't have to cancel :)

Just deploy them on the board edge so you can't get more than one under each line, deny the witch and a 50/50 on the test should work out ok. And don't forget about interceptor large blasts and plasma guns if you pod in! :)

3 hours per round should be fine.

I'd actually expect a fair number of games to be done much sooner, given Double Force Org means Double Dakka.

You don't make the limits for a "fair number" you make them for 100% of games.

Any army like guard or nids have a ton of models to move around every turn.  Shooting doesn't matter if the first two movement phases take 1.5 hours.

I think it's pretty clear that the higher the points limit, the longer the game.   More firepower doesn't make it all equal out.   We know that 500pt games take 45 minutes whereas 1850 games take  2.5 hours (and often don't finish on time).  And we know that Apocalypse games take all day to play 3 turns.  I don't see any reason to think it's not a "smooth scale" where as you slowly add more and more units, the games slowly take longer and longer.

More points takes more time, but it's a lot less than linear.  A lot of time is wasted on setup, psychic powers, etc.  I guy with 200 guardsmen usually also cares less where he places each one.

They are from books in the Forge World line, you can't buy them at local hobby stores, only from the forge world website (which is in the UK). You can find some data sheets online in various places, and most people in the community are happy to lend you a book to photocopy the pages you need.

hey, I am somewhat new to the store and this would be my first tournament evar.
I have played chaos space marines since 5th ed and just started playing with some demon allies.

I have a couple noob questions:

I didn't see allies mentioned, are they allowed?

WYSIWYG: if i bring terminators with power mauls, but the model has a tentacle arm instead of a power maul, will i be d/q'd and or relentlessly ridiculed? Likewise, do all power weapons have to be accurate.. powerfist models have to be powerfists, and can't be chainfists, etc.

Thanks! If nothing else I will show up to watch and learn!

So, not an official answer, but they're following the book: Double FOC means not only allies, but that you can have two different allies.  (requirements apply, you must have two primary attachments first)

Generally speaking, I think most people are willing to count a tentacle as whatever as long as you're very clear about it before hand.  People also tend to fudge about chain fists a lot, so as long as the chaing fist is the only fist, you're probably ok.  A lot of people get bothered by counting fists as swords or axes or whatever else, though....you generally shouldn't do that.

Matt's answer (the one above this) is exactly correct.

Edit:  Except for maybe the allies having to be the same?

It seems a little counterintuitive, but it's probably OK (though not ideal) to have a tentacle that counts as a Power Maul, but it's NOT OK to have a sword that counts as a power maul.   The tentacle is an unusual item that needs explanation anyway, whereas a sword would just be straight up misleading.

If it looks like the guy would be clubbing people over the head with the tentacle, that does make it kind of better that it counts as a power maul.  Just think about ways you can make that kind of thing more obvious on your models.

Yeah, in double force org, if you use 2 allied detachments, they both need to be from the same codex...

here's the quote from BRB page 110:

"As stated earlier, taking an extra primary detachment allows you to take an additional allied detachment (which must be from the same codex as your other allied detachment)."

one last question... are there any fluffinators that will be offended by my Tzeench heralds casting blessings on my Nurgle oblits?  8)

Nahh, nobody cares about stuff like that.  If it's legal in the rules, go nuts.  The power weapon type limitation isn't a fluff issue, it's a rules communications issue - your opponent should be able to look at the table and think about what to do without having to constantly ask you questions like, "OK what was this guy's weapon again"?   Taking it a step further, yes, if you have multiple models with the same sort of tentacles, those tentacles all need to count as the same thing.

Hrm.   Starting to feel like 2500 is not enough for me to bring ALL the toys.  Any chance we can do 3000?   :P

In any case, my list is done, and turned in.  For all you double FOC doubters....I didn't use double FOC at ALL.  If I had, it would have only been so I could get more than two troops from the allied contingent.

Unless this 2500 point event is a total failure in that it ends up taking forever, I have every intention in the world of doing a 3000 point Apocalypse tournament in the not-so-distant future.

I'll wait on talking about that until this one is over.

There's a few.  We've lost ~3 Abington guys over the last two weeks due to some things.

There's very few Plainville people going to this one, which is both good and "bad".  A bunch of new faces are trying it out.  It's not going to be a huge event, but it should be a good time.

My list is soft and fluffy, not spiked and hard.  I swear.

I only used like....half a FOC.  Not even two!   ;D

Love to hear the results, but I'm hearing feedback from people who really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and fun matches.

I'll track down the results sometime on Monday and post them up.  I think I heard that John won (Tau) and Alan placed 2nd (IG Armored Company).

I'm very interested in people's opinions on the flow of the game, the time limit, and the duration of the event as a whole.  It was NOT a short tournament.

This is not shocking to me.

It was not a short tournament.  This is not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind when planning multiple long events, or if another GT is around the same time.  Would be nice on my feet and back to have a smaller point tourney following this one for example and keep it mixed up.

Ran smoothly, games were fun atmosphere was fantastic, though I find this typical with a smaller crowd.  It is a little more intimate and I think this results in more people talking to each other since there is space to mingle and a little more relaxed.

This is Joe -

I had a blast as well. I want another crack at that farsight bomb!! Great games! Great Atmosphere! I'm a little confused on the scoring, but that is my lack of understanding, not a criticism on the event.

This was my first event at the Abington store, and I really enjoyed the experience. I will definitely be back. Maybe next time I can grab some brews with the fellaz afterwards!

My buddy Dan (Tau) won third place, which was great since this was his first event outside of our few stores in the western mass area.

Awesome Sauce!

I don't think that will be possible, I cut Farsight for a Farseer on a Bike, 3 Jetbikes, and a Night Spinner.

You're advice was too good!

But I'd be up for a Tau-Eldar vs Eldar match up.

Glad you had a blast.

Thanks to Derek and Chad for running a smooth event on the day. But most of all, thanks for everyone who made it down to play. It was good to see some big ol' games going on and get the chance to play against some armies I don't normally run into!

All in all a fun day with a couple of beers to cap it all off.

Cheers,
Alan
