Title: Space Puppy Rules Question
Post by: jhobin on October 31, 2009, 10:09:44 AM
Hey,

Saw this on another forum;

"I ran into one (question) when looking through the codex regarding Grey Hunters. It says when the squad numbers 10 they can take an additional special weapon for free. My friend who plays wolves is under the impression that if you make a nine man squad and then attach a wolf guard to them it make's ten and they get a free weapon. Is this true?

The wording for the wolf guard is that they are attached to units before the battle begins.

Little fuzzy wondered what other's thought. I have no problem with him doing it but wonder if by RAW if this is correct? "

Personally I think that attaching a Wolf Guard model to a 9 man Grey Hunter Squad does not make them count as a 10man in term's of getting the free weapon, mainly because the Wolf Guard comes from another selection and the rules for the Wolf Guard say that the model is attached before the game begins.

Opinions?

Agreed.

I would think you are correct.  The squad needs to be 10 man and then you add the Wolf guard. To make an 11 man (unit) I would say that if you take a 9 man squad with a Wolf Guard then it does not qualify you to get a second special weapon.

Yup, you need 10 gray hunters, that makes jamming them all in a Rhino a bit rough.

Didn't know that limitation before good to know now...

Cheers,

I would have read it that you can give one of the existing 10 marines an additional special weapon, not that you can add an additional man.

Also,

Seems a little strange but it looks like the only model's that can take 2x Wolf Claws are terminator's and Canis, or does it mean that you have to pay 20pts per claw for wolfguard and characters in power armor?

its 20 points per claw

it differs on who is getting the claw
Power armor Wolf Guard = 15 Pts to replace Bolt Pistol and then another 15pts to replace the close combat weapon = 30 pts for 2 claws on a power armor Wolf Guard

Terminator Armor = 10 pts to replace Storm Bolter and than another 5 pts to replace the power weapon = 15pts for 2 claws on a terminator Wolf Guard

Of course it also costs another 15 pts to put him in terminator armor anyway so points are the same either way for 2 claws, but better returns on a Terminator one due to armor saves.

As I am the friend in question I have come to understand the rule is I must have 10 GH to have the second weapon.  Makes sense to me after I have re-read them.  Lucky for my I have not fielded WG with my GH yet.
