As some of you may know, I'm starting night lords as my new chaos army. I'm doing so in order to still play chaos while using stuff my other army (death guard) would not use due to fluff. I plan on making this army look unique and interesting with a lot of conversions and at least attempting to paint it very well.
My problem is in the fact that the paint scheme is supposed to be midnight blue and gw has discontinued that color. I was hoping on getting someones expert opinion as to an alternative solution or an alternate painting method which would work. My idea was to do multiple layers of enchanted blue all washed in badab black in order to keep a dark appearance but I have no idea if this would come out dark enough so the lightning bolts pop out...
Please help, thank you -lee

Vallejo still makes GW's version of Mignight blue.
Sorry I don't remember the name of the color, I used it on my 1ksons.
As an alternative you could go ultramarine blue, hit it with babab black. Then depending on your painting level blend or drybrush it up with ultra, then enchanted.
My suggestion would be ultra then black wash, then paint faded levels of blue lightning forks with white streak in the middle on.

GWs Regal Blue is pretty dark. If you did that and hit it with Badab Black, it'd end up very dark, I think.

Or goto a craft store(like Micheals') and find the color from another maker.
-
Michaels only has enamel paints and I swore off those a LONG time ago lol

The mixing would probably work best for you.
If you want to be violated in the worst of ways, you could see if Scholar's in Bridgewater has some, I know they have a lot of OOP paints. I still need to see if they have any more Brazen Brass.

Lee, go Vallejo, you will not regret it. BG can get it in pretty quick. To be honest, I use Vallejo almost exclusively save for the GW foundation paints, washes and tin bits.

Where do you get vallejo?

Where do you get vallejo?
Battleground carries them.

Sick! Now I just have to find a way up there....
-
Lee, we live in the same town. I could let you know next time I go down and you could come with me.
-
Same here, Lee. You're a 10 minute drive from me... and you're on the way I take to BG anyway.
-
Sweet deal yo!
-
Are either of you going down today (Saturday)?
-
Heh, nope. Maybe tomorrow though.
-
I won't be going down for a few more weeks.

i feel like mordian blue with a black wash will do the job the best. ive seen night lords painted a few ways, and they seem to look alot better when you can tell the blue is actually blue.
-
Personally, I think he should just paint ultra marines blue and do the trim green.... OH WAIT. ;)
-
My only problem is that I want my army to look really dark and menacing while making the lightning bolts really pop and not like crimson fists with bat wings and brass trim... ill try out some methods on some throw away marines, but thank you for the suggestions

The problem is that, unless you have great lighting, something like midnight blue = black. You need it to be a little lighter so that you can tell it's dark blue.
