Hey everyone,
As you may have heard by now, Battleground is expanding by opening up a second store in Plainville, MA. It's located at 25 Taunton Street (Rt 152). It's a really nice plaza with plenty of parking, wedged right in the pocket of 495, 95, and Rt 1.
We are planning to open on September 1st, followed by a Grand Opening Celebration a few weeks later.
I'll be posting updates as the store comes together.
-
Derek this is awesome news. The only sad thing for me is that this means I'll have to make the new store my home gaming location and probably won't get to BG Abington much anymore.
Tons of congratulations coming your way on the new location. I know you have been working towards this for a long time and it is really great to see good things happen to amazing people.
-
With free stuff?!?
-
Thanks Jonathan!
-
Congratulations!
-
Congrats!
Even though it steals Jonathan from WoW Cards :)
-
This is very good news. I know a few FoW players from the FoW New England Yahoo group who are in RI..."Battleground South" might become a new destination for them...
-
Awesome! BG Plainville is only 15 mins away...instead of 45 mins away in Abington!
-
I too have to lend my SUPER excitement over this news... Plainville is only 8 miles from my house and it beats the 45min ride to Abington. Also I would love to state the Battleground Plainville will be the new HQ for Strategic Command War-gaming Club. www.wargamingclub.com
I am planning on having events and helping out where I can.
Derek, Congrats on the new location and growing your business!!! Nothing but good wishes and much success!
-
The abington store won't be closing, right?
-
So will the portrait of myself be placed in a conspicious place?

Not moving. :)
-
;D Little late on this, but grats, Battleground's! You'll probably be seeing more of me on the Plainville side of things. Not that I'm particularly memorable.
Anyways, yeah, I'll try to make it to the opening celebration! Hopefully school doesn't get too much in the way.
-
You need to post some video or pictures of the place for those of us who haven't seen it.

I've seen some on Facebook on the official BG group. I also have some on my blog at Battleground Games Plainville Pictures (http://wargamingforums.com/2010/08/08/battleground-games-plainville-pictures/) if you don't have Facebook.
I think Derek shot some video, now that you mention it, because one of the pics shows him with the camera.

there was a video of Rich and I working :D
Child labor ftw!

Awesome news. Glad to hear of this success Derek!

Lloydel,
I just checked out the pix below. The space looks awesome - new, clean and open.
What is the break down of the space? It looks like there were a few rooms in the back. One, I assume, is a bathroom. Are there multiple game rooms? BGA could use a second private room for games. Hopefully, BGP improves on this.
I vote we raid the Brazillian market next door stage a hostile take-over - LARP style.
-
Jon, thanks for posting the pics and blogging about the store. It's awesome and really well done!
-
I am awaiting a reply to my seemingly ignored question. Where will my portait and or alter of worship of Steve D. be places? :-p I still dont get why you guys blow smoke up my ass. But what ever ill go along with it once and a while.

We will see.
-
Well there is that little dungeon room with the work sink :) throw a little temple in there and add some ominous inquisitor statues and a idol of the "Steve D" and call it a wrap.
-
This idol must be me holding my thunder hawk or reading from the 40k core book with my hand raised
-
Steve you totally need to be a living statue for opening day. Think how awesome that'd be.
-
hmmm dunno.... The planesvill store needs to think of me as a Diety should i physicly be there on the first day there would be no illusion.
-
how close is Google maps to the actual local?
http://bit.ly/aZuzV5
-
Mapquest shows Plainville Store (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Plainville&state=MA&address=25+Taunton+St&zipcode=02762-2188&country=US&latitude=42.013458&longitude=-71.306198&geocode=ADDRESS) and that is a little different than the Google map. I'd trust Mapquest on this one because it looks like a little strip mall.
-
The Mapquest link is correct.
On the google maps link we are in the "L" shaped plaza slightly to the south on the east side of the road.
-
So umm i drove past the new store. Got me some china man food the next building over. Sat and my car and saw star war minis on the wall and all the goodies. It was a very heart warming drive and I'm not talking as it was just the heart burn, but the site over all made me happy. The End
-
That Chinese place rocks. Kam's sucks in comparison.
-
Im one of the FEW people that the plainville store is actually twice as far away :'(
im still going for the grand opening though, of course! will there be any gaming events, tournaments, give aways, or steve d worshipping for grand opening day? i think we all deserve a steve d mini/card for our armies/decks
-

nope i'm with out aswell, but of coarse I'm going to try to be there for the grand opening aswell!

Ooh it is good to hear about nearby food. I've been hoping to track down a Mary Lou's and some healthier food options to access when gaming. Suggestions?

i never even heard of mary lou's until i went to bg for the first time i live in the area there aren't any

Well sadly coffee options are Honey Dew and Dunks. Not in walking distance though. Lots of food options around, but healthy? Bring an apple.
-
thats odd... a gamer who eats healthy, i forgot that a long time ago when kams became infused with my stomach lining
-
PieZonies or whatever it's called is fantastic. I will be eating there just about every day...

Haha, don't get mary lou's :)
The average calories are around 500-600 and over 30g of fat in a SMALL frozen coffee beverage.
-
But the Funky Fanabla is so tasty with the skim milk, Splenda, and no whipped cream. And it doesn't give me that sugar headache beverages from Dunkies heap on me.

you could just drink black like me

Lattes are wrong. Only black coffee is acceptable.
-
Luckaly I dont drink coffee as Im intolerant to Caffine. Chase you seriously gona put that pic of me on a dragon on the wall at the new store?
-
Espresso > black coffee.
Chase, that dragon needs to happen.
If I ever get a 3d printer, that image will be the first one rendered.
-

Signs point to yes.
I have roughly a billion things to do before now and Saturday morning. Sadly, the picture will probably not be up before we open.
-
I'm getting excited...sadly I don't think I'll be able to make the opening damnit, I think I have to work.
I've posted about the new place on 2 yahoo groups I'm on though, FoW New England and Yankee ASL (Advanced Squad Leader). I know there are guys on both groups from the RI/Southern MA areas.
-
I'm planning to be there from opening to live blog the event. It should be fun. I was there over the weekend and it looks amazing. I know it'll be even better when it is established for the opening.

Don't know how hectic the store opening will be - but if there is a table available and anyone wants to have a game of Warhammer (painted army if possible, might as well show off the game a little) I can be there about 2:00. -Tom
-
I will be there from 10:15ish - 2pm for 40k if anyone wants a game. Painted army would be best to show off in the store. I am trying to get a babysitter for 2-5pm also so I can stay later too :)
-
i think they open at 12
-
I believe the FB event shows a start time of 10am. I'm not sure what the normal hours of operation will be or if it will adopt the "*May be open later than [insert closing time here]" method of BG Abington.
-
if only they had an insert opening time too ;)
-
I can say for sure that we will be holding to the posted opening hours on days that aren't 1) Opening day 2) Grand opening day 3) any day we have a Warhammer event 4) some other crazy "once in a blue moon" type of scenario.
Just so people are aware, the Plainville store will have the same operating hours the Abington store does. This means we open at 10:00am on Saturday and close when we close, but not before 11:00pm.
Closing times are likely going to be a lot less liberal than Abington, especially at first.
For the opening we have nothing special planned but definitely expect a great time with everyone coming to check the new place out. Remember, this is NOT the grand opening celebration! Our grand opening will be in October and is guaranteed to be awesome.
Anyways, the store look amazing and I highly suggest braving the aftermath of hurricane Earl to checking it out.
-
I'm at BG Plainville now and it is fantastic! There's a good group of people here hanging out and some playing EDH. I think a 40k game will be starting in a bit. It is such a nice setup down here.
-
What a great place! Stay for 5.5 hrs played a 2250pt game of 40k and bought lots of stuff :) See you on Tuesday nights!
-
Just want to say congratulations on the new store again; it came out really nice. The open floor works well witht the set up of the gaming tables and the long card tables.
Jonathan, thanks for the game of WAS, Sophia had a great time.
-
It was great. I had a blast playing with Sophia and have been telling everyone about the game.
I was at BG Plainville at 9:20 and stayed for like 8 hours and it was so awesome! I can't wait to be making appearances on Wednesday nights.
-
I was at the store Saturday and I was impressed. I really like the layout and the new tables are nice. Chase's office is the best thing in the whole store by far though! I will start going there more often because it is a shorter drive but I will still visit Abington every now and then.
-
I would have come Saturday but by the time I would have arrived the store would have closed. I kept Nick Company in abington. Which had a foul odour last time i was there....
-
Steve,
Are you talking about Abington...or Nick?? :D
-
i've loged over 20hours at the new store pretty sad
-
I was there again today for an hour (Abington for maybe half that today), which puts me at over 13 hours for 2 days worth. That's pretty crazy. One thing I didn't think about until today is that coming to the new store will not be an option when football season starts (on days that there are home games). The traffic will simply be too dreadful.
I do hope the bathroom gets fixed, soon, in Abington. It looked dire today.
-
Steve,
Are you talking about Abington...or Nick?? :D
Abington.... some pipes are backed up or something

i never noticed until people told me about it.... no sense of smell FTW!!

The bathroom at plain is white go figure
-
Get a picture of the white bathroom while you can. It will be stained with urine in a week tops.
-
Eeeeeuwwwwww... thanks for the image Steve...
-
Steve - Not sure why you would post something like that, but I can assure you that the new bathroom in Plainville will remain clean.
The bathroom problem at Abington was due to a sewer line problem and has since been fixed. Being in an older building, we will periodically run into these situations and will deal with them as quickly as possible. Now that the new store is up and running, we are planning on giving the Abington store a much-needed facelift.
-
everyone knows that bathroom is only for last ditch efforts haha
-
We know, and trust me, it's at the top of the short list! :)
-

Looking at the pictures of Plainville, I was thinking it would be cool if the Abington store could also attain such a state of pristine bliss.
I look forward to seeing it. I have weekends off if you need help painting, etc.
So, Mama Lloyd, it appears that Derek has delegated his duties between Chase, his mom, and yourself. What exactly does Derek actually do these days? Just wondering.

Hopefully this doesn't imply that I'm the third female in his life...

Derek already had his mid-life crisis. Battleground emerged as the epiphany of his MLC. I'm still waiting for him to buy a new, black Firebird. Not sure how to fit a child seat in one of those though.
-

No Chase. I didn't mean to infer anything of the sort. I happen to know Derek treats the women in his life MUCH better than that!

Sorry it was meant to be a joke. There have been lets say issues with patrons using abington's bathroom and keeping it clean.
-
No worries Steve! :)
