RULES FOR WARHAMMER 40K TOURNAMENT

Rule Books:
The Warhammer 40,000 Fifth Edition Rules will be used.

The following is a list of legal army choices:
Codex: Black Templars
Codex: Blood Angels
Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Daemonhunters
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Orks
Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Space Wolves
Codex: Tau
Kroot Mercenaries
Codex: Tyranids
Codex: Witchhunters

MODELS AND POINTS:

1. Each player must bring an army consisting of 1250 points or fewer, in accordance
with these rules. Each team will consist of two players fighting together.

The Force Organization Chart will be split up into two parts as follows:

(Each player must take)
1 HQ
0-1 Elites
2-3 Troops
0-1 Fast Attack
0-1 Heavy Support

In addition, the two players on a team share three ‘floating’ selections, one each in Elites,
Fast Attack, and Heavy Support. Either player may use up to two of these floating slots,
but may not use the same slot as their partner. For example, Player A takes a second
Elites choice and a second Heavy Support choice. This means their partner, Player B,
may take a second Fast Attack choice as the third floating slot.

An exception to this is the mandatory choices for some armies.  For example: "You must take this HQ at this many points."  Those choices are allowed outside of these restrictions.  Ex. Space Wolves.

2. All models must follow “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG). All
weapons, war gear, and so forth must be represented on the model.

3. Forge World Imperial Armor units (and army lists) may NOT be used.

4. If illegal units or other rules violations are found in a player’s army list, at a minimum,
the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. In addition,
tournament points may be deducted and/or award eligibility may be forfeited. If in doubt,
please ask for clarification in advance from a Battleground Tournament Organizer.

5. Teams are not integrated.  You may not share tech (for example, using each others teleport homers, etc).

6. If a unit/wargear/ability says something to the effect of "choose a friendly unit/model" you may not select a teammates unit.

7.  Necrons will never phase out.

The scenarios we will be using for the event will be a slightly modified version of the 2009 Adepticon Team Tournament Missions.  I will be choosing 3 of the 4 scenarios.

The scenarios can be found here:  http://www.adepticon.org/wpfiles/2009/0940Kteam.pdf

HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS:

• Competitors will participate in three (3) games over the course of the day. In each game, you
will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you
will play a different opponent.  Each round will last 2.5 hours.

• In the first round, players will be matched up randomly. After the first round, players will be
matched up according to current rankings in the tournament (e.g., the player in first place will
play the player in second place and so on). We will try our best not to pair teams that come to the event together in the first round. If a team receives a BYE they will be awarded the average of the winning teams points for the round.

• You will not play the same team twice.

• The pairings for each round will be announced as soon as they are determined. Please be sure to
arrive at your table ready to play right away. We ask that each player be conscious of the
time and that you play at a regular and steady pace to complete the game. Anyone found slow
playing or deliberately stalling for any reason will be penalized.

• Each game will be played on a 4' x 6' board.

• Players will receive Results Sheets at the beginning of each round. Each results sheet must be
filled in properly to ensure that match-ups and point totals are correct. Once Results Sheets are
completed they are to be turned in at the counter so the scores can be entered into the
computer.

BATTLES:

The Fifth Edition Rulebook will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide
for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2.5 hours. At the end of this time limit, the round will be called; all players will need to finish their game immediately, and no additional time will be provided.

What You Need to Bring with You:
-Your (hopefully painted) miniatures
-At least two copies of your army list
-Rulebooks and any additional books you need
-Pen and paper
-Dice and templates
-Tape measure
-Something to transport your army from table to table

Store Credit Awards will be given out to:
Store credit is good for any product in the store and all subsequent events.  It never expires and will be saved for you.

Best Overall Team
Second Best Overall Team
Third Best Overall Team (only awarded if the turnout is large)
Best Theme (team)
Best Painted (individual)

Note:  a team may only win one award.

Please post any questions or comments here.

are the rounds going to be timed? if so an extra 20-45 min from last time would really help, i know all of my games if we had played a full game there would have been much different results. i know that was the only issue last time around otherwise it was a ton of funsies  :D

Our differences have been put aside for the time being. Mostly since my 'allies' will not intefere in my gathering of the Monkaighs and that the presence of Chaos has cause for us to band together once again.

The skies will darken and the Monkaighs will know fear as their betters take the field.

The Fleets Sail.

Me and Doug will be a team.

Only two teams have emailed me, (spoke to me) or called the store to sign up as requested.

I have not filled in spots with teams posting in this thread yet because there tends to be a high "flake" factor with that sort of thing.

The most recent, accessible codex will be used.

Basically, if it's on sale it's going to be used.

Steve, please do everything possible to have a really strong understanding of the rules / units you'll be using.  This IS going to create some problems and people WILL complain about having to play against a Codex they've never seen before.

Both stores SHOULD have a preview copy of the Codex coming sometime soon so interested parties will have time to see it / read about it online.

if the release date is the 6th then how would even steve know the codex? he would have to get it at 9 and have a list by 10?

Chase and BG crew,

As I will not be in attendance for this tourny and will be at a GT the outcome of this argument has some validity.  I would like to express my disagreement in letting the new DE codex be used in the tourny.  There are a few reasons for this as I will state below.

1.  Even with the advanced copy a player will not know all his rules in 2 weeks.
2.  In said using the codex to learn his rules it will limit the use to others at the store to enable them to learn the rules as well.
3.  Standard practice amongst numerous game stores and Grand tournies are to allow at least 30 days after a codex comes out before it is used to ensure all rules are learned and can be complied with.
4.  The margine of error is greatly increased in a situation such as this.

These are my thoughts and concerns.  Yes I am very excited about the DE codex but I also believe in the integrity of tournaments.  And as such this is why I have chosen to voice my concerns.  As I stated above I will not be at the tourny so the end result does not effect me but I hope that this descision is thought of carefully.

Troy

I ditto everything Troy said  ;D

To add to what Troy said, it is going to cut heavily into time during the game. I know personally I would want to see the rules for anything that is out of the norm, and having to do this multiple in a doubles tourney which generally run longer anyways will kill game play time. I am not able to go because I will be going to the same tourney Troy mentioned. If I was in attendance I personally would not have the time to look at the preview copy to get an understanding  of codex.

That said I won't be there so my opinion doesn't matter just fyi   ;D

1.  Even with the advanced copy a player will not know all his rules in 2 weeks.
This one made me LOL, I know players who've had their 'dex 2 years and still don't know their own rules. You can't expect everyone to be up to your standards :)

Personally I have no strong feelings against this, but do believe that if I have the Toy soldiers to play the game I should be allowed to play with my rules. If there were not preview 'dexes I'd say not, but there are....

Either way, my templars will bleed with their old codex :)

Cheers,
Alan

Post by: Chase on October 05, 2010, 09:13:38 PM
Yeah, I don't see much of a point in telling a player who has waited 10 years for their army book to come out that he can't use his new rules.  If you've got the models, play on player.  ;)

Anyways, I don't expect many Dark Eldar players in the event and I will ask each one to make sure they have a firm command over their army.

Riley can be a cheesy bastard when / if he wants to be but I know him well enough to say that I think he is a good sportsman.  If he has success it won't be based solely on some cheesy rule out of a new book.

Which type? I think the greater daemon is an HQ and the lessers do count as troops but do not take up a slot (I don't know if the greater daemon take a slot or not).

Greater Daemon is an HQ slot, but it doesn't count as the mandatory one, so you need another HQ.

Its in the codex, read it!  :)

Hey guys I can't wait to see the new store.  I have two questions about the event.

Will we be using any of the Commander's head and Command counter rules in the mission packet? ...or just the missions with the 3 tiers of objectives?

Also, are the 'floating' force-org choices mandatory?  Could both teammates have a list with no elites for example?

Thanks!

Commanders heads will be used.  Command counters... I can't remember what those are and it's really late so I'll answer tomorrow afternoon.

You only NEED to take the minimum required by each slot.  You don't need to make use of the floating choices.  Elites require that each player take 0 so you're cool not taking any at all.

I'll get back to you tomorrow on the Command counter thing.

Well played, Troy.

We will be making use of the Commanders Heads rules AND the Command Counter rules.

This is half the reason why I like the 2009 Adepticon rules / scenarios so much.  It makes the game much more fun / dynamic.

It should be noted that the rules packet and scenarios will be modified ever-so-slightly such that they are more in line with our event.  The scenarios themselves and the scoring will remain identical.

Still being semi new and yet old to the game without a current edition rule book. Would someone mind explaining Commanders Heads Rules and Command Counter Rules please...

They're specific to adepticon. Look at the pdf in chase's first post.

Doug is correct.

We will be passing out a packet to each team at the beginning of the event.  This packet will contain the rules specific to the event as well as all of the scenarios and score sheets for each round.

With that said, I strongly suggest players to take some time to read through the .pdf I refer to in my first post.
