Title: Stuff I Have Been Painting
Post by: Jess on October 28, 2010, 09:56:22 AM
Ok, not the most epic quality of photos but I can't get my camera to focus on the mini for the life of me so Todd was nice enough to snap some pics with his phone. (I have a dumb phone that does nothing).

The first is Colette from Malifaux painted to look like Mad Moxxie from Borderlands.

The next is 2 daemonettes of Slaneesh, kinda muddy and overworked.

Good stuff!  I like Colette a lot.

Pretty good for some of your first models, don't you think?

Yeah for being my first ones they aren't bad. I have zero patience and get easily frustrated.
Thanks Chase!

I can't wait to see what Todd does with his Crxy since his paint arrived last night :)

Edited for pre coffee spelling

If you have zero patience and are easily frustrated I recommend some soothing music and doing 1 model at a time to a high standard.

The models look good! Keep it up!

Just don't end up doing what i did and try to paint 36 marines, 4 rhinos, 3 obliterators, and 2 daemon princes in 4 hours and 45 min  ::)

frustration is then an understatement...

"soothing music"? Haha! I don't think black metal qualifies... Normally I just throw something on the TV in the backround, like B-grade horror movies. I'm trying to take my time and do higher quality, just going to take a lot of practice I guess, thanks!

Isn't that about 6 and a half minutes per mini? Did you dunk them in paint then blow dry them :D
I can't imagine painting a army. It would just sit unassembled in a box...

Wolves in the Throne Room = soothing black metal.

Wolves in the Throne Room = soothing black metal.

I object to American bands calling themselves black metal... or any band that started after the 90's...

Then again, I listen to Cradle of Filth so I'm not allowed an opinion.

However, for soothing black metal, Ulver's "Nattens madrigal" is quite peaceful... or anything Darkthrone did in the 90s.

For soothing music I can break out some fantastically bad goth music. Though Todd would have to leave the room.

I'm currently on a Finnish symphonic folk metal kick since Todd told me one of the bands opening for Cradle of Filth next year, and they were epic in a way only European metal can be.

I never dip I just brush them very fast and left the green I dripped on the base so it looks like they're dripping ooze (because i could get away with it on nurgle stuff

I was listening to death before dishonor, a day to remember, lil Wayne and paramore. So I'm not sure what kind of music that is. "rush your ass off"?

That is certainly epic music to battle by! I like wizard metal. I just listen to Howard Stern while I paint. I find that keeps me focussed.

How did you paint the bone giant and not feel like dancing like an Asian school girl?

The other night I was watching reruns of Tosh.0, tonight was Myth Busters. Only I was just assembling minis tonight since I was paying attention to Jamie and Adam :D

I tend to have some Sinatra, Dean Martin, or DMB (maybe some Wizard Rock) going.  It can be tough to find music that is interesting but not distracting while also setting the right mood.

I like Beethoven.  I have all 5 of his pieces on my iTunes, and I usually start with that, before switching over to my George Carlin and Dennis Leary comedy tour collections.

And while my approach to painting is similar to Dave's (in that I start on one group of similar looking models, and do one coat at a time with each model before moving to the next color), I find that it helps if you vary up your paint scheme's a bit.  Do something different with each model, to break up whatever monotony you might be feeling, or switch to working on a vehicle, and alternate between Infantry models.  And while patience is one of my strongest virtues, I too have felt the burnout of painting.  (Serves me right though, for buying so much at once in the beginning :P)  Your paint jobs so far look really good though.  Best of luck with finishing your stuff!

Now that Ive gotten better at painting, i cannot put down a model until it is 100% finished (except for the wash and then highlihts) try laying on your stomach in bed and painting i find it to be easier to get details
