Title: Apocalyptic count down......
Post by: jesterofthedark on September 17, 2008, 01:48:58 PM
3.5 months till the big game, figure I'd start up a fresh topic to see where everyone is at with the game.

Terrain ideas, army ideas, any good one liners your planning to shout out when you execute a "L33t" move.

I think it might help to vocalize some of the army ideas now to get an idea of who wants to use what.  Not tactically just in conversation, i.e. Paul and I were discussing who was gonna bring Thrakka since you can only have one of any named character.

OOOOOO also think of the rivalries we could start now and then have three months to talk smack.  Man, I love talking smack.  Your mama jokes for the win!!!

Well as of right now my Apoc army is no where near completed.  I need a ton of stuff built and to top it off marine codex comes out in a few weeks!

As for what side, I am an either or as long as I can get my guard finished in time.  Hello Radical Inquistor Chaos Lord!

well 3500 pts isn't alot for apocalypse I would think.  I bet its the assests that go real quick, lol, I'm not planning on basing anything in my force on anyone assest.

Maybe I'll bring big things made from resin.... or maybe I'll bring 700 zombies!

go with zombies, I can not honestly think of a reason not to use 700 zombies.

I have around... 35 zombies.  Paul has another 90.  That's 575 more zombies to go.  :o

Give your wife the link to the GW store page for them, saying how badly you need a ton of them.  But it's okay, she doesn't have to get them.

I wouldnt get too upset about the possibility of hating the new codex. Marines are gonna be better than before and either way hate it or not everyone is gonna get blown up turn 1 - its called apocalypse. We all die, real fast. And rest assured that if you have a favorite unit it will get blown to pieces before you get to use it.

yea, plus they offer some less costly titan units.  Obviously they don't pack the fire power of the reaver or warhound but for around 300 points I think it might mesh well with the 3500 point cap.

yes they are they even have their own data sheet.  A titan data sheet is just wrong.

Hey everyone reading this thread, I was just wondering if anyone was planning on using any named special characters.  Might want to sound off now just so everyone doesn't try bringing the same one and we run into a situation later.

ok I think I just heard one of the dumber things that may be in the new marine codex.

Marine special characters could be arch-types??  So everyother army is restricted in their special characters but two space marine players can take the same rules for a special character but just call him something different?  Weak, thats it I'm making Rhazkull Buttrokka "the profit of your mom."  He's not Ghaz but he has all the same rules.

I'll team him up with "kinda Crazed Hmo Surgeon Dirtsnot" +5 plus invul saves for everyone.

Welcome to the land of Space Marine players.  Please cut off your education at the 4th grade and enjoy your stay.  If you whine long enough, we will give you anything and everything you want. (Assaulting and deepstriking with power weapons in the same turn)

Data Sheet Idea.
I just built a Necron AA gun tower.  I'm basing the points on the IG Hydra Flak-Tank.  Do you think the point cost is OK?

Cost 200 pts
Weapons 4 AA gauss cannons   Range:48, Str:7, AP:4, Heavy 4, Gauss, AA mount

BS 4, Armor; F12 S12 R12

Counts as Immoble, but has Deepstrike (same as the Pylon Special Deployment)
Living Metal
Same Damage effects as pylon (No driver, and no engine) except each weapon destroyed effect takes away one of the Gauss cannons because it has no flux arc.

And Ron,  I think that sounds like a good idea for an AA gun.

Tigurius for the ultra marines is cheese

he can use 3 phychic powers a TURN

then, as long as hes in your army, not even having to be on the field he can make ANYONE re-roll there reserves roll

which works well in apoc since you choose who is coming on and not rolling reserves ;)

As for special Characters, I will pull for Vulkan if Cookie is going tyranids, otherwise I think i will be going with Pedro(COUNT AS) since Paul is most definitely orkez

The "clause", you mean the space marine catching up to every other codex in terms of named characters for HQ choices instead of generic's clause?

PS

Ha, space marines are "catching up" with other codexes?

If they gave them named characters and that was it, then yes you are correct.  But sadly you cries of how fair the new codex is, are being downed out by this wave of gayity powered by fair marine rules.

Arch-types my sporous buttocks.  I don't care who you are, the ability to effectively take any named character and unlimited number of times because its the same guy different chapter.  I call space bull poopies.

If we didnt lay down the ground rules that you could only have 1 named guy in the entire force then I would agree with you.  However the "broken" marines as your so deftly put it might put up a fight against the Orkzeez who are steamrolling the professional circut.

Also other than chapter masters, there really should be no issue with named characters in other chapters, they are just that chapters version of "X" named

Sorry to get on the marine bashing bandwagon but I couldn't resist.

Catching up, to whom I may ask? Eldar? They get one as an HQ, only 1. Orks? They get a few, most of which are limited to a certain unit you must take. Chaos? Sure they get a few, but name me one which people actually use, other than Ahriman. Guard? Thats just a joke.

Quote

This is just not true at all. The logic behind that statement seems to be that GW had to put out a ridiculously unbalanced codex in order to combat the other ones, which just doesn't make sense, and just leaves all the other armies in the dust in terms of competing. Also orks are not the tournament powerhouse you make them out to be. Im not sure what led you to think that anyway.

Either way, it's quite obvious, and I think many people woud agree with me when I say that marines are becoming way too powerful as an army. And personally I think this is due to the fact that Space Marines constitute the majorty of armies played and the army most people start out with. Therefore it would make sense for GW to make that army better than most, it just attacts more people to play them while at the same time satistfying all the current players. Who doesnt want to play the most powerful army? really...

Honestly I like Space Marines fluff wise and modeling wise, but I hate what GW has made them out to be and how they have changed.

Back on topic, which i'm not sure it is exactly, but, it seems like the sides are getting all messed up. Now with the ork surprise out of the bag, there seems to be quite a mess of whats exactly going to happen. We didn't have any Tyranid players last year but I would imagine that the Tyranids would end up on the side of "Chaos."

There seems to be a lot of confusion about how many "sides" there are going to be in this years MegaBattle.  There was some talk on a small twist involving a couple of players, but now that that cat is out of the bag who knows.

I will talk to Derek about this on Wednesday and get you guys some answers on what exactly is going on.  I will also list the "sides" and what armies will play on each.

-Special Character limitations - one per side

as far as it all stands right now, its just two sides with armies falling into one of the two categories of order or chaos.  I.e. GW proclaimed good and evil armies, that should basically iron that out.
As far as teams, I believe it is the same as last year.  During sign up write down what armies you would be willing to field and give the points you could do of said army.

For example Bob has both a tyranid army and a space marine army, he can field 3000 of each but would prefer to play nids.  This way the store can set teams up to be fair, everyone gets to play.

After teams are set if the sides decide to get strategic that is up to them, but some sense of a heirarchy should be established to help avoid the confusion of assests and special characters should multiples of a given force happen.

Ground rules still apply?
-Painted models only
-GW and BOLs datasheets only.  Other datasheets must be approved by the community?
-Special Character limitations - one per side

Yes.

Well, I've only got one army..Dark Angels. I can easily go 5k worth of points on them, maybe  more depending on Chrismas and my birthday, or a good pay check haha.
The details will always be worked out come the day before anyways.

Now for the smack talk:
There is only ONE side...that which is guidled by the Emperor. All else is wrong and will be dealt with.

So I spoke with Derek tonight.

Two sides:  Order and Disorder

Tyranids = Disorder for the same reason Eldar fought for Order last year.  If it doesn't always make sense, make it make sense.  Maybe the Tyranids are taking advantage of the situation and have decided to come in an eat some guardsmen for the day.

Orks = Disorder

Players are encouraged to play their armies in the spirit of the game while at the same time doing what they want to do.  For instance, if there are 3 or 4 Ork players and they want to get together and play as one massive mob o' green killa guyz plan to deploy that way.

There is a chance that we will impose some restrictions on what armies play for each side.  For example if 25 of 30 players want to play for "Disorder" we may not let people play things like "renegade" marines like we did last year in an effort to balance the number of players on each side.

If you have any more questions PM me.  I'm more likely to respond quickly that way.

I also only have "one" army.  About 3k of renegade guard (guard with 8 pointed stars in various places) and like 8k of CSM and Daemons.

Ok so it's like 3 armies but blame GW for breaking up my happy family.
