Title: starter tournaments
Post by: jesterofthedark on September 29, 2008, 01:18:34 PM
Hey,

I know you guys have recently started new armies.  I was just curious if there was ever talk of a starter set tournament.   I was just reading the boards the the privateer press site and they were talking about some they've had.

That would be totally awesome. I know Matt was interested in an event like this a while back. anyone else up for it?

I've been thinking about starting up Circle so depending on the day I would be down.

you guys could even amend it to include you armies of Immoren plan.  I think most of the starters are around 350 pts.  So just have a tourney with that, if the interest is there you could get D to order the expected starter sets needed.

Might work well with you guys (Ian and Matt) around.  Cuz players could look into armies without needed the starter if there was a caster they liked, and you guys know so much about the game in general you could advise very well.

I'd dig this - especially since I just put together my Khador starter.

I'd give it a shot, though the painting is coming along slowly but the basic blue is on the Cygnar's.

well painting the figures doesn't have to be a requirement for entry.

A $5-$10 dollar entry fee would be low enough to encourage participation.  Should there be any restrictions though would be my question??  I know the starter sets are pretty good to go, and a 350 setting allows some room for addition to the boxes. (i.e. a troop choice)  But should anything else be addressed in your opinions??

Mangled Metal should be in effect. Troops at 350 ruin game balance.

This format sounds like a lot of fun and it should make for a fairly quick tournament. The only issue is finding a day when we can get enough people to make it.

With enough notice, I'm sure we can get folks!

How's November 8th sound to everyone? The store calendar looks free that day. I figure over a month's notice should be enough for people to make arrangements.

yea, I just need to get derek to place and order for one or two morer figs and then I just need to paint like the dickens.

But just to be clear we are planning on nov 8th and a mangled metal format??  cuz that will decide if I get more warbeast or troops between now and then.

The game tends to get unbalanced with troops at 350 point games. Mangled Metal/Tooth and Claw is the best way to go.

But, considering I have a full unit of Zealots with a monolith, I can be persuaded  :P

Will have to check with Tim/Paul for coverage but it is otherwise clear for me.

The above information is how this is going down. All confirmed with the folks at the store.

All shall kneel before Vlad + 2 Destoyers!

In a Mangled Metal game Goreshade can still summon a unit of Bane Thralls with his feat?  I understand the flavor of Mangled Metal, but clearly this can't be a violation of the rules.

Yes, he can.

bah, summoning infantry in a mangled metal, I hope ya do it and your opponent gives ya a swift kick in the grapes.

Then I get to game and see a show at the same time for $5 buck.  Haza

I can't wait to put Magnus the Traitor and a Mangler on the table.  And then follow up with 2 more Nomads.
