Title: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda
Post by: Commissar Grey on October 24, 2008, 12:27:23 AM
Background

Necromunda is an inhospitable world of pollutant wastes and acidic clouds, the result of centuries of industrial endeavour.  Its people live in huge sealed cities called hives - constructions so tall that their higher levels pierce the toxic clouds that cling to the surface of the planet and rise into the upper reaches of the atmosphere.

No-one knows how old the hives are.  Their very size is testament to many thousands of years of growth, sprawling layer upon layer, climbing ever higher above the planet's polluted surface.  The deepest and oldest layers now lie far underground, buried by the corrosive ash that piles around the hive's base.  These parts of the hive were abandoned long ago, and now they are dark and dangerous places inhabited only by mutant things spawned by chemical pollutants, disease and madness.

Where the hive breaks the surface its broad base spans ten miles from edge to edge.  From ground level the man-made mountain rises ever more steeply upwards.  Weathered wall of adamantium climb through the phosphorescent layer of undercloud, a pall of acidic dust which clings to the surface of Necromunda like a shroud.  The hive reaches skywards through ghostly shadow, until it eventually penetrates the cloud base and emerges into the hard light of the sun.  At cloud top level the hive walls stand almost five miles above the ash waste.

Above the dust layer the hive narrows into a single tall spike, a tower studded with a million lights.  It stretches almost vertically above the sickly glowing cloud and reaches towards the stars.  The spire is covered with armourplas blisters of many shapes and sizes.  Domes on its surface shield carefully nurtured vegetation from the thin and arid air.  Slim towers break from the outer shell, palaces of massive and elegant proportions yet barely significant in comparison to the hive.  Cantilevered balconies hundreds of metres long jut out into open space forming the base for new construction sites.  Broad circular landing platforms hang from the spire walls, and higher still gaping dark holes lead to spaceports inside the hive.

You live in Hive City in the area governed by House Orlock whose foundations lie upon deep ferrous slag pits.  Hive quakes are a common occurance in the lower parts of the hive as old abandoned domes collapse upon themselves.  A recent quake opened an old tunnel leading deeper into the lower parts of the underhive.  Your gang has been asked to search the tunnel for any artefacts found there.  As you emerge from the tunnel into an ancient forgotten dome another quake sends debris falling from above and seals the tunnel.  As your eyes adjust to the sudden lack of light you see movement in the darkness.

I will also try to have a painted figure for everyone to use, but if you have a favorite of your own I have no problem you using it.  (Standard infantry 25mm base.)

   Thanks,

I would like to thank all those who participated in Wednesday's Zombie Crawl game.  I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.  I also want to thank Paul for letting me use his painted zombies.

So, out of nine players, only one escaped!  Congratulations Adrian!  There were quite a few momentous occasions during the game that must be mentioned.  Chase (Ginsu Master)  whose two sword wielding character purreed zombies with ease.  Rick (Bruce Jenner) whose character had over a dozen zombies chasing him for the last few turns of the game.  To die right at the exit tunnel was classic.  So was Steve (Zombie King & Last Man Standing)  whose THIRD character died in a tidal wave of rotting flesh.  To get ripped apart by over twenty zombies, yeesh!   Adrian (See ya later Dude) who rolled so many ones that it paid off for him when his character fell into the toxic river and rolled a one versus a strength six hit.  Also when he found the exit and left fellow gang members behind.  Ben (Headshot) who showed that lasguns CAN take down a zombie, but died from falling into the toxic river.

I took some pictures of the game and will post them as soon as possible.  Again, thankyou ALL for playing.

Thanks for running it John, it was an awesome game!

I pretty quickly realized that my superfantastic LasGun was just so much junk vs. zombies (but did pretty good vs barrels) and so my plan became clear:  sprint for the far side of the complex while allowing the valiant, self-sacrificing, not-to-smart, Chase (a.k.a Ginsu Master, a.k.a. Zombie Sponge) take care of all the heavy lifting.  In my defense, my nerve held until our "hold 'em at the bridge" plan fell apart along with the bridge.  Watching my fellow shooters drown while the 'frog' zombies cleared the gap with ease, and seeing a clear path to the exit behind me, well, what would you do?

Abandoning my fellow gang members?  Maybe, but so what?  We're gangers, not Marines  ;D
Besides, I was going for help.  Really.

Zombie Crawl - Necromunda   Part II    April 15, 2009

For those who are interested, I'm planning on running the sequel of the Zombie Crawl from last October on Wednesday, April 15.  It is the Wednesday after Easter Sunday.  If I could get a count of those who are interested in playing so I can plan accordingly, it would be much appreciated.

I will be posting the rules on character building and a selection of skills, weapons and equipment to choose from within the next couple of weeks.

Adrian, you will have a bonus on your character build for surviving the first game.

how do the weapons work? do we get one from the basic and melee? or do we have to use one of our 4 points to buy them?
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda Wednesday (29OCT08)
Post by: Chase on April 09, 2009, 02:41:37 PM
I'm pretty sure you can pick whichever weapon(s) you want, Ben.  They have restrictions though... like range, number of times they can be fired (in some cases), strength, if they can hurt you or not, etc.  There's a bit more info involved than when choosing weapons in 40k.

I do know that you do not have to spend one of the 4 points on them.

Maybe someone that knows more about it can clear this up a bit better.

I can't remember if we have to spend points on the skills or if we get to pick a couple of them upon creation.  I vaguely recall being able to choose one or two...

The event was a blast though.  Probably one of the more fun events I've had a chance to play in.  If you can make it down for the game I suggest doing so.  John does a great job of making if tough, fun, and mysterious all at the same time.  If you enjoy having to work through group problem solving exercises… this is a game you shouldn’t miss.

From what I remember, melee oriented characters did pretty well.  Our sniper did pretty well.  Our heavy weapons dude got smoked before he could really be put to the test... but that was our fault.  There's a bit of a learning curve to the event, as I'm sure some of you guys will see.

Melee characters did do the best last go around that's for sure.  But I think we were cheating with them til we realized it about halfway through the game...

If you remember nothing else remember this:
Lasers = A load of suck against zombies

...though they were prime for blowing up stuff.  Slugthrower type weapons, shotgun and whatnot, did ok as I recall.

Post by: Commissar Grey on April 09, 2009, 08:45:14 PM

All are welcome to join in and if you have a personal favorite mini to use, thats fine.  I would prefer if it is on a 25mm round base (40K Standard Infantry Base).

You use the points on Skills and Character Profile increases.  So, it would be 2 points for getting the Hip Shooting Skill AND to increase your BS from 3 to 4.  Weapons do not cost any points.  You could get one from each class, but will have penalties in Hand-To-Hand fighting from being encumbered.  Also, if you do choose 2 HTH weapons AND another Class weapon besides Pistols, you can only use one of the HTH weapons during HTH fighting.  You could do a Pistol Class AND HTH Class weapons and get the extra attack in HTH fighting.

Hope this isn't confusing.  You can get the rules for Necromunda from the GW site under Specialist Games.  They are in PDF form and are easy to download if you want a hardcopy.  I will have the rules with me the night of the game.  It took around 20 minutes for 9 players to create their characters the last game.  Again, if you have any questions, I will try my best to answer them.  Hope this was helpful.

Post by: Chase on April 10, 2009, 05:37:03 PM
I think the flamer can only fire twice until you find more ammo for it...  I remember thinking it was REALLY good until I realized it was a limited use weapon.

Post by: Commissar Grey on April 10, 2009, 07:41:14 PM

Cary,
Nobody used a flamer the last game.  A flamer requires an ammo test roll of 4+ every time it is fired; I think that's why it wasn't used.  Usually you need an ammo test when you roll a 6 to hit.

Post by: Chase on April 15, 2009, 11:35:24 PM
My guy recently got smoked.  I ended up killing only 3 zombies...

I went with the Heavy Weapons guy this time around.  He was much less effective than the dual sword wielding ass-beater I played in October.  This was due largely in part to the fact that I ran out of Heavy Stubber ammo in ROUND 1... after failing to even HIT a zombie!

On the plus side...  I did manage to escape certain death a few times.  I was given a Melta Gun in hopes that I could, well, melt some zombies and make up for the fact that my muscle-bound meat head left all his ammo at home.  However, like I said before... my character is a *HEAVY* weapons guy, not a SPECIAL weapons guy.  He had no idea how to fire the Melta Gun.  Fortunately for Bam Bam (that's the name I've decided to give the character just now) the Melta Gun turned out to be a very handy zombie bashing item.  Despite not shooting and not gearing himself up with a melee weapon, Bam Bam was able to thump a few zombies to death and made one hell of a last stand.

He was SOOO close to jumping down one of the rabbit holes to safety!

Until next time.... :)

Thanks again, John, for running such an awesome event.  I think I speak for all 15 of us (or however many there were) when I say it was a ton of fun.

MOVED FRom Wrong thread!

Ok the Zombie Crawl last night was really fun. John was creative and ran it pretty tight. Those that weren't there missed the chance to fight skaven bunnies. Pictures of the bunnies should be put up, nice conversion job.
I didn't get to fight said bunnies, due to too much stones and not enough smarts. I showed up late and just went for the fight. I managed to kill afew to let my comrades get away. Just call me the red shirt in Star Trek. The zombies ended up eating my brains.
There were 5 survivers out of the 15? of us that started though. Chase managed to get 4 kills without a melee weapon, or being able to shoot anything. He had a weapon problem before I got there. Unreal dice rolling there Chase.
Cary and his band of merry misfits pulled up the only ladder over the wall seperating the zombies and the killer bunnies. This stranded 4 players on the side with the zombies.
Cookie being one of those left behind choose to take on all comers and at one point had every zombie on the board in base contact with him and afew others crawling over each other to eat him. As he fell, after many rounds of combat, he voded revenge on those that lifted the ladder.
Two players managed to crawl under the wall to get away from the zombies, but one died down a pit trap underneath. The other popped out of the rabbit hole and wondered where everyone went. He saw a chance to run for it and managed to get to the exit.
Steve saw big shinny things and of course had to go get them. This triggered the more ninja rabbits to come out of the holes and attack. He recived the Kill Da Rabbit Award for most bunny kills, but was struck down by a magic spear through the chest, which of course was modeled too. Again nice job John.
I had fun and would love to take part in what is brewing for October's Zombie Crawl which is already in the planning stages.

P.S.  The flamer thrower as a weapon sucked. haha. I managed to catch only one zombie on fire and it went out before the round was even over. Grr.

For fun here a zombie related youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjMiDZIY1bM

The Band of Merry Misfits:

Dont confuse cruelty with stratgey...Object of the scenario being escape. I would look to the leadership of the Fellowship who infact pulled the ladder with his crew in tow.
"I dont have to out run the zombies, I just have to outrun you." -Anonymous
Point of note: 2 out of 3 of the Merry misfits made it out alive.
Alliance with the Fellowship and using our scouting skills on the field rather than misguided bravery in the face of overwhelming odds allowed the chance for life. Hats off to Gandalf and crew, if not for the greed of said Bunny killer, we would have all made a clean get away with the 9 who made it over the wall with the ladder.

All in all awesome game cant wait to see the challenges the next scenario will create.

It is a multiplayer game based on Games Workshop's "Necromunda" game.  Each player creates and equips a character and tries to survive and escape from the zombies and other creatures (and each other!).  Its kind of playing a part in the movie, "Night of the Living Dead".  Page one of this thread has some character build and equipment information used for the first game.

I was going to run it every October (Halloween and all) but there was quite a bit of positive feedback, that I ran Part II in April with an Easter themed encounter.  I'm planning to run Part III this October.

Its so dark you can barely see the person in front and beside you as you slowly and quietly make your way through this ancient area of the Hive.  Every now and then an old vent sends a slight breeze of musty air filled with dust down upon the group from above.

There is quite a bit of rubble and debris built up on the ground that it is almost impossible not to make noise or turn an ankle.  You wonder if the ground will support your weight or give way and send all of you to the very bowels of Hive Bottom.

Your hands are sweaty on the grip of your shotgun and your heart is beating so hard you can hear it.  Another gust of air hits you and you think to yourself, what is that gut-wrenching stench?

You see some dark figures approach the group from the right where Steve is.  He screams in terror as he squeezes off a few rounds from his stub gun.  The smell is unbearable as the last you see of Steve is him swinging wildly with his sword while being surrounded and pulled down by the figures.

You can't believe that he went down.  Steve, the first to get into the thick of things and against all odds survive, is gone.  Your thoughts return to the present as the figures close with you.  Now you see why Steve screamed the way he did; Plague Zombies!!!

You flip the switch on your autogun to full auto and empty the clip into the zombies as they close.  You slap a fresh clip into your autogun and again spray the mob with hot lead.  Unbelievably only one drops motionless to the ground.  Adrian, your point man, calls out that he has found a passage to safety.  As you load your third magazine you notice something coming at you from the left.  With lightning reflexes, you block the slashing claws of the zombie that charged you.  For rotting carcases, they can move!!  You use the butt of your autogun as a club and crush the skull of the zombie.  As it lies on the ground, you hit it a few more times upon the skull until it splits open and biege-brown sludge splatters on you.  That should keep it down!!!

Now to find Adrian and that passageway.  You run in the direction you heard him last; that should get some ground between you and the zombies.

You realize you're running through what used to be a factory of sorts as the ruins you're in is chocked with heavy machinery and broken crates.  As you turn a corner, you run face to face with 4 zombies!  Combat refexes take over as you dive backwards and away from the zombie's swiping claws.  Behind them is a barrel and know what has to be done.  You fire your autogun at the barrel and find your mark.  The area is engulfed in a fireball as you roll behind a ruined wall.  You notice Rick and Steve climbing a ladder to a gantryway as they try to get away from the zombies chasing them.  The heat is intense as you peer around the wall to see all four zombies lying on the ground in flames!

Then it registers, Steve is alive?!  How?!  You thought he was taken down by the zombies!!  Lucky Son-of-a-bitch!  And where is Adrian and that exit!!  Quickly you scan the area and notice another ladder and skywalk that connects to where Rick and Steve were last seen.  If you can link up with them, the three of you should be able to get out of this hellhole!!

You hear yelling and gun fire ahead of you as you quickly make your way down the ladder from the skywalk you used to escape the zombies.  There are figures tangled in close combat but the lighting is too low to distinguish friend from foe at this distance.

You swing your autogun and strike down the zombie that is attacking Pat.  He looks relieved that you are with him.  The zombie that you knocked down grabs your leg, but before it can bite you, you empty the clip of your autogun into the things grotesque face.  Rotten flesh, bone and a nasty smelling mist splatters on you but the zombie is no longer moving.  You smile contently.

You quickly scan the immediate area and do a head count; Rick, Steve, Pat, Doug and Chase...
where are the others?!  And where is Adrian???!!!!

You think to yourself that the group has been in this location too long now and your thoughts are confirmed.  Out of the darkness shuffles a large pack of zombies from a side tunnel.  Chase yells for everyone to stand clear as he takes a few steps towards the zombies.  The heavy stubber he is holding comes to life and lights the area with bright muzzle flashes.  As quickly as it started the stubber stops with a bad sounding crunch.  Ammo jam!!!  Chase yells a curse and then yells for everyone to run!

Doug charges the pack of zombies to try to buy some time for you and the others.  As you run from the zombies you hear Doug scream a blood curdling scream.  You stop to look back and see Doug being ripped apart viciously by those beasts.  Nothing can be done to save him so you start to run to where the rest of your gang went.  His death will be avenged!!

No, the players used a variety of figures from different games to represent themselves.  I have no problem with players using their own; we had an ork on the table last game!!  I would like players to use a painted figure though as I'm planning on taking photos of the game.

There will be a list of equipment and weapons to choose from when you create your character.

The game is based on the "Necromunda" rules.  Everyone makes one character based on the basic ganger stat line.  You will have points to modify the stat line of your character and to buy skills.  I will have a list of skills, equipment and weapons for the players to choose from.  I will be posting all this info during the week prior to the event.  The date for the event is 21OCT09.
  Hope this helps.

Three weeks to go! Choose your model and get it painted.  I have ten models for players to use if they don't have one.  Chase, I have yours!  ;D  Also, if players could come up with names for their models, that would be great.  I'm thinking of taking individual pictures of each player with thier model to create a "Cast of Characters" list.

I'll be posting the information for character building and which skills, equipment and weapons that will be available for players to choose from in two weeks.

All are welcome.  If I could get a head count as to the number of players that will be playing, that would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.  Thanks.

Don't worry man, I don't know the first thing about anything having to do with the game.  John and the other guys that are familiar with 40k and Necromunda are great with helping people like me out.

The amount of info required to play John's Zombie Crawl isnt too much.  It's pretty easy to pick up, especially if you are even remotely familiar with the game.  It doesn't take long to get in the swing of things.

I promise I'll be asking more questions than anybody else anyways... and I've played in the previous two. :)

Hope to see you there.

Hello everyone, just letting you all know that I will be posting the information for character construction and which skills and equipment/weapons will be available for your selection on Thursday night (15OCT09).

Last year I had copies of the rules with me the night of the event.  As the players were making their characters, I was setting up the table.  I will have copies of the rules with me the night of the game also.

The first game there were 9 players, the second game had 19 players.  Lets see how many players for this one.

I'm planning on being at BG tomorrow night (14OCT09) if anyone has any questions.  Again, all are welcome to play and thankyou for expressing interest in this game.

With the news from the survivors of the last patrol of a horde of zombies in the discovered dome, a decision was made by the Noble House of Orlock to send a Company of hired gangers to purge the dome for further exploration.
The Company numbered over one hundred heavily armed gangers, some armed with demo charges to be used to seal the dome if the zombies were too numerous.
As the Company was making its way down the winding tunnels a fight broke out between two gangers and before it could be stopped, gunfire struck one of the demo charges.  The ensuing explosion ripped through the Company killing most of the gangers and caused the tunnel to collapse.

No, there isn't a limit to the number of weapons.  But, you can't use two weapons in hand-to-hand combat if you carry other than pistols and hand-to-hand weapons.

  The game is Wednesday (21OCT09).

  2d6   2     0    3   3    1   1   1    5

The movement rate of the zombies are determined by rolling 2d6 for every zombie individually each time they move.

Can you duel wield pistols and duel wield swords if thats all you are carrying?

Actually, yes you can.  You can use only one pistol during the shooting phase unless you have the gunfighter skill, in which case, you can shoot with both of them.  If you charge into hand-to-hand combat, you can use the two swords.

I'll try and keep a log for as long as I can.
Well not such a good idea to climb this tower, though it was dark up here and I thought it might be the way out. It has been almost 2 days since I heard a loud boom off in the distance. Something says I might be here a while. On the bright side these zombies are slow and it takes them a little bit to climb up the ladders. So I wait for another one to come up and try to kill it and knock it onto a few below. Not much time for rest but the few minutes of sleep helps a great deal. I can not see the bottom of the tower but I can really hear the moans and groans of hundreds of those fleash eaters. Question, Do zombies starve?? Well I'll try my best not to feed a one. I do wonder how many of the group made it out?? I did see Cookie give one last hope to get the door open, too bad he had to throw the demo charge as he was being mauled by 5 or 6 of those things. After seing that I climbed right back up to the best vantage point and it is here I'll make my last stand. I'll wait for the group to come back, I hope!!
Well I hope the next person who reads this is sitting right beside me and I can tell them the first hand acount of what had happened, not someone finding this log laying in a pool of blood.
Oops gotta go here comes........................................................

Your Kroot made it to the wall while being chased by a mob of zombies and made a last stand there.  There were just too many of them to be taken out with the flamer and got taken down by the mob.
Glad you made it to the game; maybe see you at the next one.

Awesome game!

More organization and coordination and more people made it out. The few turns of 1-2 zombies and the ability of both groups to work on reducing the zombies close in HTH 3-4 down each phase seemed to win the day.

I think Johnathan showed us all that who needs a special weapon when your a skilled Knife fighter.

Cant wait for the next

As the last few survivors from the zombie attack make their way down the wall separating them from the mob of zombies, you take a quick headcount.  "What happened to Cookie?", you ask.  "He didn't make it; zombies got him", someone replies.  You take a moment to remember him and to catch your breath.

With the wall between your group and the zombies, you feel less tense.  You call to get everyone moving again; we've got to find that exit.  As they start to get to their feet, an explosion rips the heavy metal doors from the wall.  Through the smoke and dust, you see Cookie surrounded by a bunch of zombies.  "Fu@$ you all!!!" he yells as he gets ripped apart by the zombies.  Everyone starts running as the zombies pile through the opening.

Date Unknown,
It has been a while since I wrote, plus I just found this book again. The tower has become my best friend. If it wasn't for the rats and bugs I might not be here. The aroma of the dead has made it's way up here and i hope soon I shall be numb to the smell. The zombie hoard I think are loosing interest in trying to get me. Maybe just maybe they are forgetting I'm up here, because I'm sure I smell great. I think I could blend in with them with this putrid smell of dead flesh all around. It has been a long struggle to survive, I hope it is all for the good and don't die doing something stupid. Any way time here seems to have stopped and it is the same thing day in and day out. Me being up a level and them only having to climb one at a time, a good shot could take a few out and I rest up for the next fight. The food is getting scarce, and I'm feeling quite weak. But the thought of rescue keeps me going. As I stated before the zombie hoard is starting to move away and follow out the wide open doors, it is about time!!. Well on the bright side I know every inch of the top of this tower, not that it matters that much!!

Here we go again...................

After talking to some of the past players, I'm giving the players that had characters survive the last game the option of keep playing that character or building a new one.  I will most likely be using the same build options and points as the last game.

As of now I'm looking at either April 21 or 28 as the date for the next Zombie Crawl.  I will post the date and all the info players will need in a couple of weeks.  Till then, keep your blades sharpened and your autopistols loaded.

Well, yes and no.  Its not wysiwyg.  You can use any Infantry sized model (25mm) and say it is armed with whatever.  The Hand-To-Hand weapons available are: Knive, Sword and Chain.  You might find a chainsword during the game though.

are there any special rules on heavy bolters? (like ammo jams, running out of ammo, other stuff)
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda Wednesday (29OCT08)
Post by: Commissar Grey on April 23, 2010, 10:29:35 PM

Heavy Bolters, like all weapons, have an ammo roll that needs to be checked whenever you roll a 6 to hit.  They have an ammo roll of 6.  Also, you roll up to 2 sustained fire dice when you hit.  Each die has one jam "pip".  So, if you roll a 6 to hit and choose to roll one sustained fire die and it comes up a jam, you would need to roll two ammo rolls of 6.  If you fail either roll, you are out of ammo and the weapon cannot be fired for the rest of the game.
The upside is it is Strength 5 and does D4 Damage per hit!

Players can find ammo and other things during the game, so the chances are if you do fail an ammo check, you could find some during the game.

  Hope this helps you.

   John

1.  Seeing in what ridiculous way Riley dies.
2.  Seeing how Cookie tries to screw us all.

The game will probably end around 11P.M. or Midnight.

Cary, I will post the storyline and pictures for this episode as soon as I can.  Sorry to here you will not be attending.  There goes Cookie's plot for revenge!!  ;)

Rick, Adrian or Jonathan, could one of you print up a couple copies of the character generation rules for players to use.  I will have a copy of the rules for players to get the stats of the weapons they will be using.

  See you all tomorrow.

A big thankyou goes out to all who participated in last night's game.  Hope you all had as much fun as I did.  There were 16 players and only 2 survived; newbies to boot!!  All the veterans from the last game died heroic deaths.  Rick survived the explosions of 2 bomb zombies, but was butchered by the last Scaly that survived Adrian's melta gun.  Team Cookie delivered the package and sealed the tunnel at the expense of no less than 4 players when he triggered the Krak Imploder and blew them all to pieces!  Riley....well, he's just Riley!  ;D

Also, I would like to thank Chase and Derek for hosting and providing the great tables for the game.

I'm planning the third and last episode of this series to be held in October.  You'll be going into the lair of the Black Hand to recover stolen property and for blood!!

Here is the storyline for Zombie Crawl 4, Demons in the Dark Part 2.....

I wanted to try something a little different this time.  I had three groups of players starting in different areas of the table each with their own "mission".  Also, there was some Necromunda/40K Universe info about the Guilders I had to explain to the players.  The Guilders are the trading lifeblood of the Necromundan Hive.  All trading between the Noble Houses is done through them.  Needless to say, they are quite influential and powerful.

The game was played on a 12'x4' table.  The survivors started in a tunnel entrance along one of the 4' sides.  They were being chased by zombies right from the start.  They knew there was a Guilder's outpost nearby and that they would be safer there.  Rick came out of a large pipe on turn 2 or 3 near the other survivors.  Their "mission" was to reach the safety of the Guilder's outpost.

The new players and players that needed to make another character started 12"-18" in from the opposite 4' side.  Their "mission" was they were hired by the Guilders as reinforcements for the outpost due to increased zombie attacks.  They were to get to the outpost and help defend it.

Team Cookie (3 players) started on the same side as the new players but at the tunnel entrance that was situated on that 4' table edge.  Their "mission" was they needed to place a large explosive device in or close to the tunnel entrance on the opposite side of the table (survivor's deployment area).  They were made "Watchmen" (deputized) by the Guilders and tasked with sealing the tunnel entrance that the zombies were coming with the "Krak Imploder"; an experimental device.  They were also given the code to shut and lock the entrance they were starting at (which they did  ;D).

What none of the players knew was that the outpost was attacked and pillaged by the Black Hand; a strong Scavvy Gang (diseased, mutant humans).  As the newbies got close to the outpost, they found a dead body of one of the outpost's inhabitants that was shot, not torn apart from zombie attack.  They were shot at by the 2 Scavvies that were still in the outpost.  Once the players secured the outpost, they were told that there was quite a bit of blood in the ground but no bodies of the inhabitants were found.  Also that the place looked looted.

As the three groups converged at the outpost, the Black Hand assault group emerged from the third tunnel entrance along the 12' table edge opposite the outpost.  It consisted of a Scaly (ogre) and 2 Scaly mutants, the Scavvy Boss and his Scaly bodyguard, a Scavvy sniper, a Scavvy bomb maker and a few zombies.  ;)  The bomb maker was attaching demo charges (frag grenade) to zombies and detonated whenever the zombie was shot or attacked in close combat! ( I loved these guys!)  :D

The Scavvies were coming back to collect the rest of the loot that was left behind in the outpost and at their tunnel entrance.  They staked claim to all the loot from the outpost and issued a challenge to the players (which they ignored).  Needless to say, they attacked the players.

But again I'd like to say thanks so much, you do an amazing job running that event, and I look foward to playing in them.

"A hivequake shook parts of the lower levels of Hive City in the domains of House Orlock.  Many were injured and killed as the domes they inhabited collapsed, causing much damage to many ore smelting facilities.  Rescue crews have been dispatched to search for survivors."  End Transmission.

"I guess the package worked well!", said one of the two men dressed in Nobles clothing.  "Ah, yes, maybe a bit too well.", said the other.  "Maybe we should send a team to see if the threat is dealt with and to search for survivors?"  "No, not yet.  Lets wait a cycle and then send a team.  We don't want any suspicion cast our way.  Also, the dead have no need for credits."  At that, both men start laughing.

"We found two survivors, my Lord, but they are too far gone for any useful information.  They kept rambling on about giants and bunnies!  What shall we do with them?", asked the agent.
"Did they say anything about the outpost?", asked the Noble.
"No, my Lord, but I have a team doing a thorough search of the area and will have better information in a few days.", said the agent.
"Very well then.  I expect a full report from you.  I must know what happened to that outpost and its stockpile.  Oh, and take care of those two; we don't need any "loose ends".", said the Noble with a sinister smirk.

3 more weeks till Zombie Crawl.  Do you have what it takes to survive?  Last year there were only two players that did.....sort of!  Will Cookie seek revenge on Cary?  Will players start fighting each other?  What is that large green thing?  ???  All this and more will be answered on the 27th.  Make it if you dare!!  :o  Haa-haa-haa-haaaaaaa!!!!

"My Lord, the outpost was raided by a Scavvy gang known as the 'Black Hand'.  There were no survivors and the stockpile of the outpost is in their possession.", said the agent to the Noble.
With a furious look on his face, the Noble slams his fist on his desk.  The Noble quickly composes himself and with a calm and steady voice he replies, "Right, go through the usual channels and assemble a team to reclaim MY property.  Offer our standard wage.  I DON'T want any prisoners!!"  With another calming breath the Noble adds, "And I want their leader's head!!"
"As you wish, My Lord.", says the agent, turns and quickly leaves the office.

                  Zombie Crawl V  Wednesday October 27, 2010 6:30 P.M. Plainville

Welcome to Zombie Crawl 5, Deamons in the Darkness Part 3.  The story continues...

Once the Guilders got the news of the attack and pillaging of their outpost by the "Black Hand", they quickly hired another gang to retrieve their property and to eliminate the gang.

Characteristics

M - Move.  How far a model can move in inches in a turn.
WS - Weapon Skill.  How good a model is in hand-to-hand fighting.
BS - Ballistic Skill.  How good of a shot a model is with a ranged weapon.
S - Strength.  How strong a model is.
T - Toughness.  How easily a model can withstand a hit from a weapon.
W - Wounds.  How many times a model can take a wound.
I - Initiative.  Represents a model's alertness and reaction speed.
A - Attacks.  The number of attack dice rolled in hand-to-hand fighting.
Ld - Leadership.  Represents raw courage and self control.

Everyone starts with one character with the following profile:

   M  WS  BS  S  T  W  I  A  Ld
   4    3    3   3  3   1  3  1   7

You have 5 points to adjust your profile and/or buy skills.  Each skill costs one point.

The maximum increase to your character's profile is:

  M  WS  BS  S  T  W  I  A  Ld
  4    6    6   4  4   3  6  3   9

Skills

Specialist - Allows a model to be armed with a special weapon
Heavy - Allows a model to be armed with a heavy weapon
Hip Shooting - Models can run and shoot with a -1 to hit modifier.  CANNOT be used with a heavy weapon.
Bulging Biceps - Models armed with a heavy weapon can move and shoot with a -1 to hit modifier.
Gunfighter - Models armed with only pistols and hand-to-hand weapons can shoot two pistols in the shooting phase.
Crack Shot - Models can re-roll the Injury dice roll.
Tech - Models can try to repair old equipment and weapons found during the game.

Weapons

Hand-To-Hand
Knife, Chain, Sword

Pistols
Autopistol, Bolt Pistol, Laspistol, Stub Gun

Basic Weapons
Autogun, Boltgun, Lasgun, Shotgun (with Solid and Scatter shells)

Special Weapons
Flamer

Heavy Weapons
Heavy Stubber, Heavy Bolter

I am planning on a 6:30 - 7:00 start time, but can have players join in easily during the game.  If a player has his/her character killed early into the game, they can be "respawned" back if the player wants.  There will be a "point of no return" where if your character is killed, you are out for the rest of the game.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them.  I will have a copy of the rules and the stats for all the weapons with me.

  See you all Wednesday.

   John

So I will not be able to make it to the game tonight. There still better be one spectactular death (or one really stupid one) in honor of me :P

John, thanks for running the Zombie Crawl again!  Awesome as always; I'm just sorry I had to leave a little early.  Can't wait to hear how it turned out, but it was looking bad for the home team.

For the first time my "run and let others fight" strategy failed me horribly.  Ah well

A big thanks goes out to all who participated and to all who were there in spirit.  I really appreciate your interest and involvement in this game.  I would also like to thank Battleground for hosting and for staying open later than usual.  Sorry Chase couldn't make it; you were missed.

So, it looked bleak for the group as they tried to get past the toxic sludge canal.  As it turned out, they were able to take out the Scalys with accurate gunfire and the Scaly's inability to make Initiative checks.  Two fell off the tower they were trying to hold; one of which fell into the canal and died.

The leader, too, was gunned down and fell off the tower to "HIS" death!  The Runt, Scavvy with Scatter gun and Scavvy Demo were the only ones that got away.

I also learned a few valuable lessons:
     1.  A two table length game results in a very late night.
     2.  Melta guns are far too effective in taking out Scalys.
     3.  Driving through Foxboro at 2 A.M. with one headlight out will result in you being pulled over.
     4.  Driving with an expired license in Foxboro will result in your car being towed from under your @$$.

All in all a great night!!  Thanks again everyone!

   John

Tedd was happy to be back out hunting snakes.  The last time he was out, all he caught wasn't even enough to make one bottle of "Wild Snake"let alone dinner.  Now that the threat of the zombies had been dealt with by the Guilders, it was "safe" again to venture downhive.

He was back in his favorite hunting spot when he noticed the tracks of a large snake.  "A twelve footer", he thought to himself as he carefully followed the tracks to a ruined building.  They liked to hole up in the pipes and cracks of such places.  As he got his catcher pole ready, he heard it moving around on the other side of a crumbling wall.  What he came face to face with was a total surprise to him...

The last time Tedd was gone for such a long time, he came back with a beast of a snake.  Enough good skin to brew five bottles of "Wild" and meat for a week's worth of meals thought Harmon.  He was hungry and thirsty!  "Edga, we got to get this still cleaned up; we want it ready when Tedd gets back!"  Edga agreed with a grunt and started knocking the rust off the cooling coils of the still.  Harmon kept an ear open for Tedd's return.

Harmon heard what sounded like a person dragging a heavy load.  "Go see if thats Tedd and if he needs a hand", said Harmon to Edga.  Edga went to the doorway and stopped. "Well, is it him?  Does he need help?" asked Harmon.  "Well, sorta!", said Edga as he quickly closed and barred the door.

The zombie pushed on the door trying to get to the two men inside.  It was hungry and the air was thick with the smell of fresh meat!

The Imperial Armory is fresh out of swords.  They have been deemed too effective and are now given over to Grey Knights only.

You may want to rename the thread through editing the first post.

I didn't understand last year why a years-old thread was still going and didn't feel like reading through years of posts to find an answer... until one day I was bored enough to do so. :P

So for those of you who don't know, Zombie Crawl - Necromunda is a miniatures based game using 3rd or 4th edition 40K rules with a few additions.  Each player "builds" a character using a stat line similar to a  40K Guardsman and modifies their stat line using a set number of points.  Also, these points can be used to give your character skills chosen from a list provided.  You also can choose weapons and equipment from a list set for the game. (No points needed for that though.)  Each player can work cooperatively or independent.  You make my job easier when you start attacking other players.   ;D  I run the zombies and any other beastie you may encounter.  The object of the game is survival and escape from the zombies.  If you have any questions, please ask and I will answer as soon as I can.

   Thanks,  John

The group of gangers found a defendable ruined building to rest in.  The expedition they were on took them deep into the underbelly of their great hive city.  Steve, the most experienced and trusted scout, was gone for too long thought Rico to himself.  "Right", Rico yelled, "everyone on your feet and be sharp; something's off!"

As the group took up positions in the building Rico could see some movement from behind what was left of a wall.  Five ragged figures slowly shuffled their way towards them.  "Open fire!!!", barked Rico as he took aim at the lead figure with his autogun.  He let loose two quick shots and watched in horror as chunks of flesh got ripped away from the hits, but the figure didn't go down.  "Fraggin' zombies!!!", screamed Rico as he flicked the switch to full auto and let loose half the clip.

He could hear the men on the other side of the building start to open fire too.  Rico saw the first zombie he shot at finally go down from a lucky head shot.  He took a quick scan around and noticed many shambling zombies closing in on their position.  They were surrounded...

There isn't a sign up for this, just join in.  All you need are some D6's, tapemeasure, pencil and a favorite 40K Infantry sized model. I will have a tape measure and some Necromunda models for players to use if need be.  I will also have character cards for players to fill in with their character's stats, skills and equipment.  I'm looking at a 6:30-7 start time.  If you have any other questions, let me know.

"J.R., Abenson, get over here now", yells Rico.  The two men quickly make their way to Rico.  "Clear out those zombies on my command", ordered Rico, pointing to the zombies in front of them as he pulled the pin on a frag grenade and threw it.  The grenade explodes amongst the zombies; shrapnel ripping through their flesh. "Now", yells Rico as he empties another clip from his autogun.  J.R. moves over the wall of the building he was in and sprays the zombies with cleansing flames from his flamer as Abenson fires off carefully aimed shots with his meltagun.  Most of the zombies hit are either burned to a crisp by flames or vaporized to grotesque puddles of rotten flesh.
"Everyone this way", yells Rico as he rushes forward through the gap in the zombie mob.  A few zombies that were still on their feet but up in flames milled about. Rico cut one down with his sword as he made his way through; his men close behind.
As the last few men run through the zombies, one is grabbed by a zombie still on fire and bites into his arm.  He tries to fight off the attack, but is pulled down as three more zombies join in; biting and clawing flesh from his body.  J.R. stops and fires his flamer, smothering them all in flames to put the man out of his misery.
"Follow me", yells Rico as he leads them to a ladder to an overhead  platform and gantry.

Any recommendations from the old hands?  I was looking at heavy weapons, but in reading back through the thread I saw that someone ran out of ammo after 1 shot with a Stubber!

I assume the smaller weapons have an easier ammo roll?
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda
Post by: Chase on October 25, 2011, 12:46:30 AM
What weapon choices are good depends a lot on what Jon throws at us.  Normally there's a ton of regular zombies.  As you might figure, guns aren't great at killing zombies... unless you blow their head off.  Problem is... none of us are great at doing that.

If your goal is to slaughter endless amounts of normal zombies, dual wield swords.  You'll DEFINITELY kill a ton of them....

...But there's going to be more than just zombies.  And sometimes the "big guns" are required to deal with that stuff.  Sometimes doors need giant holes in them.  Sometimes barrels NEED to blow up to save our asses.  Sometimes giant zombie ogres show up and eat the sword wielders.  Swords can't really work well on that sort of stuff unless you're looking to die for the cause, and people WILL die for the cause (by choice or not).

If you want the highest kill count, go with two swords.  If you want to be forced to get creative, do something else.  It's going to be fun no matter what.

I will be using a heavy stubber.  Hopefully I don't run out of ammo in the first few rounds as usual.  Although the barrel of the gun makes a decent club.  :)

(Seriously though, we're gonna need people with two swords.  They shred zombies, tank, and kill for the rest of us when we're trying to figure out WTF to do so we can make it out alive... which most of us fail to do anyway.)

Models can be armed with weapons chosen from the Hand-to-hand, Pistols and Basic weapons lists.
Are we allowed to choose for our characters just one weapon overall, one weapon from each category, or some other combination?
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda
Post by: Chase on October 25, 2011, 03:55:02 AM
I'm pretty sure we can take "whatever is reasonable."

I know dudes with 2x Swords were also able to take a Las Pistol or something like that.

I think I end up taking a Heavy Stubber and a Las Pistol.

Totally in for this tomorrow night!

I found my old decked to the teeth Necromunda model, so that'll be fun!

I'm a little torn on weapons / skills though... tough choices for initial setup.

I think this was kind of asked earlier, but do we have to spend points on weapons?  If not, I think I've got a good idea on equipment for myself.
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda

What are our limitations for equipment? If someone can take two swords and a pistol can I take two pistols and a sword with the appropriate skill?

Yeah.  If you want a Heavy Weapon you need to spend a point on the appropriate skill.  If you want a Special Weapon you need to spend a point on the appropriate skill.

(If I remember correctly.)

The limitations are, "This is for fun, don't be 'that guy'" and "Is it reasonable that a dude would be able to carry that while fleeing in terror from a giant swarm of zombies?".

Two pistols and a sword seems perfectly fine.  I'm pretty sure Jon isn't going to have a problem with that at all.

What is not fine:  A Special Weapon, a Heavy Weapon, two swords, two pistols.

Thanks, Chase, for fielding those questions.  I will have a card for each of the players to fill in with your character stat line, skills and weapons.

I will go over some of the basic "allowable" weapon configurations tomorrow night.  You don't need a character already made, just an idea of what you want.  It doesn't take long at all to make a character, most of the players at the last game made their character right before play started.

See you all tomorrow night.

Just wanted to thank John very much, this was very fun. Next time, I'll actually design an effective character!

Now I really want to look into Necromunda more. The small scale craziness, it's got more of the Warhammer vibe I prefer.

Billy Bob totally killed the giant spider at the top of "The Tower of Death."

He's such a badass.

Total kill count:

1 zombie
1 giant spider of doom

I'm pretty sure i't the first time I've ever made it out alive!! :)

John, thanks for running.  Amazing job as usual.  I had a blast (as always) and I know just about everyone else did too.

Giant spider. Well, that actually makes sense. I don't like spiders. My dice were trying to protect me by killing me. My dice mean well, it just takes some time to decode their logic...

I would like to say thankyou to all the people who participated in tonight's game.  What a turnout!!  I really didn't expect such a large group!  I appreciate the interest and enthusiasm from everyone.  I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

Carolanne, thankyou for the cupcakes, they were good.

As usual, a big thankyou goes out to the folks at BG for hosting this event.  Chase, glad you played.. and lived!

Hope to see everyone in April at Abington for Zombie Crawl VIII.

Number of zombies I killed: 4
Number of people that died falling off the tower: 4

... Coincidence?  Probably, since the tower killed me too.  ;D

John, thank you again for running this, it was a tremendous amount of fun!  We just have to remember to not let anyone play with the electrical equipment next time... or shoot them if they try.

Was there a way out on top of the tower with the spider?  Treasure?

No.. no way out.  It was a trap; and thanks to Danny, an effective one!!

So the Skaven door was the way out?
Title: Re: Zombie Crawl - Necromunda

Yes, the door where all the rats were was the way out.  The 8" visibility of finding the way out dropped to 4" when the lights went out (thanks again Danny).  Thats why I kept the players on the tower guessing if the top of it was the way out.   ;)

I'm also going to roll 2D6 for zombies if there are more than 16 players; there wasn't enough of them on the table to be that threatening.  At one point, there wasn't any zombies at all on the table!

Chase, I'm looking at either the 4th or the 11th, both Wednesdays, in Abington as the night for Zombie Crawl VIII.  I'll check if there are any other events planned for those evenings.

The 11th is a much better day.  The 4th is the Wednesday before PAX so the store is likely to be... different, to say the least.

The 11th the store might still be in recovery mode, but that's okay I guess.

Will the white rabbit make an appearance this game?  Will the mutant bunnymen be a threat again?  What is that green thing in the corner?  Will Steve show up and/or die a hillarious death?  All these questions and more will be answered in April.

The street was cluttered with wrecked vehicles, fallen masonry from the surrounding buildings and the bodies of the dead.  Luckily none of these bodies were moving.  You stay low and hidden in a ruined building and wait silently just to be sure.  You think to yourself I have to make it to the safety of the dock.  There I can take a boat and escape this damned city.
You check with the other survivors and get an all clear to move out.  Quickly you jump through a window and into the street as the others follow, weapons at the ready.  You move as quickly as you can down the rubble strewn street.  As you approach an intersection, you hear the familiar sound of shots from an autogun from around the corner.  You peek around the corner and see a man running towards you, turning behind him to shoot at the zombies chasing him.
You and your group come around the corner and start firing your weapons at the zombies to help the man escape.  He is startled by your group but smiles nervously at you, then turns and fires his autogun at the zombies.
One zombie falls to the ground as the other eight continue to close with your group.  Too many of them to take in close combat you think, so you call for your group to break off.  As you lead the way, the newest member thanks you for your help.
I have to make it to the docks you think to yourself again...

Hi everyone, I would like to thank you for your participation and interest in this game.  Sounds like everyone had a good time.  I would also like to thank the fine people of Battleground for hosting.  Also, a special thankyou goes out to "the Sergeant" for his fantastic gameboard and buildings.

Chase, you were missed.  I will post a recap as soon as I can.

The next Zombie Crawl will be in October in Plainville.

  Thanks again.

Yah i'm on facebook and am friends with BG but i didn't see it until Ron pointed it out. Also the event was only created yesterday, so not to beat up on BG too much here but either they dropped the ball or they got no notice on the date / location change to Abington until last minute.

It's a shame because i would of made plans to go and i'm sure there would of been a much bigger turn out if there was some hype and lead up time.

guess we have to wait 6 months for the next one Ben lol

Ya I had called Matt last Thursday and he had no clue it was going on he only thought it was going to be in Abington. I know they try and avoid a super huge turnout because it gets rather packed and difficult for them to manage.
