So, we're a week into month 1. How is everyone doing?

Haven't had too much time to paint yet, got 5 tac marines and a librarian painted so far. Luckily for me, Space Marines have higher point costs so I don't really have that many models for my first 500 pts  :D

I took advantage of the warm weather and got some priming in. I was hoping to have my selections through April primed so I wouldn't have a issue with spraying in the basement.
Too bad I ran out of primer :(
I was planning on getting to Abington Saturday for a game or two but my family had other plans for my day.

All in all this week was less productive than I hoped

This work for you, Chase?  ;)

Anyways, I think I'll start a thread for painting progresses specifically, since it's likely this thread will be reserved for scheduling games and what not.

Can't wait to start on the rest!

I may have started a bit early  ;D  but I have
1 Warboss
40 boys
2 Nobs
21 Grots
2 Runtherd.

As an added bonus I have 3 Objective markers a friend of mine gave me last Christmas.
I'd love to get a Noob friendly game going Either Friday or Saturday.

Maybe I can get some good picks then on a decent table... My painting bench won't hold it all.

Vallejo blue grey is the best color. If I didn't know better, I'd say GW used it for the Wolves in the codex and the boxes. When I painted wolves, that's the color I used. It's perfect.

There are pics of my Wolves in a Battleground FB picture album:

I tried a lot of combos with GW paint to get the codex color, but the Vallejo was great and covered in basically 1 coat. If you want the old preheresy look just use straight codex grey as your armor color.

It took a while to get the paint scheme the way I wanted. Guess I have to start moving faster now.  Here's the first four, black gloves and boots are out now, going with the brown instead....

Squad markings will come later....

Many of us were in the store on friday night. We played a 4v3 game which went on too long, but it was still fun.

Just for the record, my 500pts is 100% complete. Painted, highlighted and based. I finished my commissar yesterday. 41 Guardsmen that were only primed on the 1st of the month.

Every one will have until Friday Feb 3rd to get an on time paint score. Im going to say that each round ends by the first available Friday after month's end. This will give some of us a little extra time.

500 points in one month is not as easy as one may think when we all have other things in our lives going on be it school work etc.

Ok an anonymous person asked a question which I need a group vote for.

"If I have some one help me paint my stuff so its done on time is this cheating?"

Personally I say no since I know people who ask friends for help to get stuff ready for a tournament but for this purpose I think its a bit unmoral.

What say the group?

Post by: Rurouni Benshin on January 23, 2012, 06:44:32 PM
I agree with Chase.  The point of us deciding that we only start with 500 for the first month was so that people could have the time to paint them, without needing to rush themselves too much.
Title: Re: Tale of 16 Gamers - Abington - 2012
Post by: Achillius on January 23, 2012, 07:33:05 PM
Ok,
this is supposed to be fun and motivational. Personally if I'm late or not done, it is what it is.
Ideally, you started from scratch on Jan 1 and by Feb 3 you will have every model built and as many painted as possible. Next month you have fewer to paint and will be able to catch up if you need to.

If you are concerned over hitting the date on time, and getting help will stop you stressing, have at it.

Cheers,
Alan

My thought is that it would be one thing if it was a "If all your stuff is not painted by the deadline you get kicked from the group" but it's not. So if you don't get stuff painted, not the end of the world. If you do... good job.
Title: Re: Tale of 16 Gamers - Abington - 2012

I agree with Alan.

It's a casual thing.  I know I started not from scratch so I suppose I would be "cheating".
Title: Re: Tale of 16 Gamers - Abington - 2012
Post by: Randl on January 23, 2012, 10:57:56 PM
Personally I'm going with the theory of if your happy with your army then its all good.
I'll be the first to admit that my objective markers were painted and given to me as a gift from a good friend of mine.
One top of that I had a couple of units painted when this started. I am using this as an excuse to paint the rest of the army and most importantly start playing not just painting 40k again.

Now should you take credit for your friends painting?    No that is never good.
Perhaps you don't get credit for painting on time, but you can still get credit for playing the games using those points.

I'm going with the lets make this whole thing as "fun and productive" as we can.

Honestly dude, I don't think superheavies/flyers should be allowed. They really don't fit in the points that we're all doing at this time.

Yea i get what you are saying but for right now I am just asking in general, how would something like that work. For all i know i may not even buy one. All i am doing right now is asking. And is valkries/ sky talons flyers?
Title: Re: Tale of 16 Gamers - Abington - 2012
Post by: the_trooper on January 27, 2012, 03:32:43 PM
The general rules of fliers from Forgeworld being used in 40k are that they become skimmers.  Valkyries become fliers in Apocalypse but are just skimmers in 40k.

A baneblade is 500 points so hypothetically, if they were allowed, would yes, then knock you up into 1000 points.

My 500pts of Guard can't handle 500pts of Marines. What would they do with a Baneblade? I think a Baneblade would cause guardsmen to run away at low points. :)

I think your 500 points of guard did very well against an equal number of points of marines, if you ask me (I don't remember exactly, but you had your plasma in your CCS squad right? not your PCS).

Transports are still worth it. The main job is to add an extra layer of defense and mobility to your troops. Which they still do. They may have been nerfed, but they remain viable as always. Besides chimeras are the mainstay of imperial guard lists to begin with so you will stay fine. Your other common tanks didn't lose much either. Honestly nothing did, gw just made you rethink your investment into a transport/tank. Overall 6th edition will be the same for most armies and even make them better, the army rankings will not change at all.

Post by: King of the Elves on January 31, 2012, 01:44:32 AM
The only 2 rumours that are going around is 1) Much like in WHFB, GW is thinking about having a percentage rule where instead of a Standard Force Org, it would be like only 15% of your army can be tanks and 50% of your army has to be troops (these are just random % by the way) and that could really mess up people (like me) who play mech guard. The other one is that diffrent kinds of infintary can move diffrent lengths. Hope i help and sorry for all the spelling mistakes  ::)
Title: Re: Tale of 16 Gamers - Abington - 2012
Post by: GossWeapon on January 31, 2012, 01:58:54 AM
I think you're under estimating how cheap and valuable a chimera can get.

Ben, beasts of war has an interview up with gw on their site. Nothing is final but alot was confirmed/denied from the current leaked rulebook. For example the turn order will remain the same (move shoot assault). Oh... And no evasion crap.

That's about all we'll really know until very close to release. On a side note a gw store employee leaked info on black Templar playtests: a biker character and the oldest emperors champion (forget his name) with eternal warrior and a "lash-like ability" to call out challenges/beat face, etc.

Hey i just got a idea, what if right after this league is over we have some sort of "tale of 16 gamers finale tournament" Where, it would be in abington, we could open it up to just those 16 people or to everyone, the point value could be what we ended with, and (at lease for the 16 people) you have to choose the army you did for the tale. It was just one of my ideas and i think it would be good for the 16 gamers to "show off" thier armys.

Basing is easy, just spread some Elmer's white glue a little thinned with water on the base, submerge base into sand basing material.  Wipe off the edge of the base with your finger so the only basing substance is on the top of the base as intended.  Do it with all your dudes, then paint the basing material (once it's dry) with a thinned paint, calthan brown works well for this.

Make sure the base is neat and you are done.

Ok be honest guys who finished on time? I admit I did not. I fell short by 2 transports and 3 marines. To my understanding not every one fared well to get 500 points painted in one month. I thought of granting a courtesy extension or we can just call this the day its due and take it like men. What say the group?

In my opinion it would be silly to extend a deadline after it has past.

People may have worked hard to meet that deadline.  Why extend it to give the people that failed to meet it a chance at "full credit" when the guys that were on the ball get nothing for doing what they were supposed to?

My $0.02

EDIT:

Sorry for the bigfoot-esque images as well, I'm not all here as far as painting and camera holding.  I'll post better pictures later as I'm pretty happy about my weathering I did.

Hey guys i have some rather bad news, i have to quit the tale of 16 gamers. Well with school not getting any easer it's getting harder for me to find time to paint. Also with a small paper route & GWs rising prices, it's hard for me to come up with the $ for 250 points each month, while still trying to save for stuff like drivers ed and hanging out with friends. I am still playing 40K but i will be expanding at a "slower pace". I am sorry to just drop like that but i gotta do what i gotta do. And sorry for the long post.

Dude, I'm still on track for finishing my 2000 in time.  Just b/c people are taking their time with their armies isn't reason to just throw in the towel.  Let it ride out to the end, and see how it goes.

Well I've been slacking on the reporting but painting I have been doing.
Thanks to family and the rest of real life games have been outside of the realm of possibilities. So I have a lot of 0's there. But I was never in this for the prize. I just was hoping this would spark Some games in Abington and I would have a nice Ork army.

I'd love to get a game in with any of the 16 who are still taking part. I may be a bit late but I will end this thing with 2000 points of orks. Once I get one of those new fliers the points will go up :)
