Hey Battleground folks... I'm gonna be there at the 1850 singles this weekend :)
A question... do you guys know what is next? Can you give a brother a "sneak preview"? I have a couple different projects I could work on and I would rather be working on the armies I can bring to a tourney sooner :)
-
Doubles. May. 500pts per person (maybe).
Yeah, I said it.
-
Neat.
-
That would be awesome
-
man, have I got the list for you.
-
Oh wow... hot damn... 500pt team... couldn't be more perfect.... I vote "yea" on that one. 1000 pt games, could we even fit 5 in a day???
-
I opened up Army Builder so fast I hurt my arm.
-
lol
-
could we even fit 5 in a day???
That's the idea. :)
-
I am SO there :D
-
Ya me too
-
Start thinking about teammates then...
It'll probably fill up fast.
-
Teammates? Hell, I know I have to think about how this tournament even gets put together. :D
-
:O This I want to be in :O.
-

Don't worry about it. It's the Battleground way to wait until the last minute. I'd expect nothing less from anyone helping out. :D
You've already done almost all of the work anyways, Ben, whether you know it or not. We just need scenarios.
-
Re: Scenarios
"Against my will, I'm gonna knock it up another notch."

BAM!
I'll plan for 5 scenarios. I'll probably post the scenario drafts online again, because the collaborative effort last time was really worth it.
If there's one thing I know, most wargamers do not like surprises or lame scenarios. Amirite, Ard Boyz tournament? Oh, sorry. You're not here anymore. BURN.
-
Ahh 500 pts my arch nemesis. I suck at building small forces cause I can never get it right.
-
Man, it's amazing how little you can fit into 500pts.... should be fun. I could see these games going very fast.
-
Yea they will be quick sometimes too quick for my brain to comprehend. A couple bad rolls will destroy your game plan with 500 pts fielded
-
A 500pt force of vanilla marines is especially tough! The two troop choices are pretty pricey, no points left for pricey gimmicks... I think the trick here is going to be co-ordination with a good teamate who can bring what you lack. Of course, that is still tough for vanilla marines because they lack alot at 500.
But, I bet almost 100% of the armies will be painted!
-
I am assuming that we are going to have to field the required HQ and 2 troops choice at a minimum
-
I would suspect that it will be "half a FOC" as has been the norm in other team tournaments (of larger sizes). What do you think Chase? (don't mean to rush you hehe, and thanks for the sneak preview)
-
Oh ok
-
Quick question: As you guys can probably tell I play a lot of Blood Angels, I have a ThunderFire Cannon but its not listed in the Codex but it is in the Codex: Space Marines am I still allowed to use it for my army as long as I use the appropriate Codex?
-

That should be a requirement
-
Team events are always fun.

I agree with you, I have been busting my hump trying to get all of my stuff primed and painted over the last two weeks.
-

Only if you want to be playing them as vanilla space marines.
-

It can be dangerous to assume. Not bad, just potentially dangerous.
-

Hmm... If I'm being honest, I haven't decided yet. The topic has been touched upon briefly but that's about it.
-

Correct.
-
What the hell is a Vanilla Space Marine
-
The main space marine codex, as opposed to Black Templars, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, etc.
-
Oh now I have been schooled lol
-
FOC will be a healthy debate, for sure.
-

Lol i thought they where space marines painted like vanilla ice cream ::)
-
Honestly I think removing the standard 1hq 2 troops and maybe focusing on a robust hero hammer type event may be fun.
Like if Draigo and Draigo collide the universe may explode, Matt Ward will beat Mitt Romney and there will be peace in the middle east. Imagine the wonderful implications our little event will spawn.
RAINBOWS! RAINBOWS! RAINBOWS!
-
<--- Tabled 2 opponents in the Last 500 Tournament with Vanilla Space Marines so doesn't want to hear people complain.
I think you should be required to fill out the FOC as per normal 1 HQ 2 troops. Splitting the FOC between 2 people at 500 points should not be a problem for anyone unless your planning on just trying to spam something ridiculous. Orkz still going to have a clear advantage in this department anyways :P.
I may Change up from what I did last time try something different few new ideas kicking around in my head.
-
That's cool, my I ask what you 500pt list you used? I guess the issue I have is actually that I need to buy two Razorbacks...
on topic, how does a combined FOC work? Is it literally only one HQ and two troops need be on the table? Or does each player need at least an HQ and one troop?
-
(Each player must take)
1 HQ
0-1 Elites
2-3 Troops
0-1 Fast Attack
0-1 Heavy Support
And then you had a Floating choice in Elites, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support. Which means you or your team mate could have 2 Elites in but not both of you.
500 Pts - Codex: Space Marines Roster
Total Roster Cost: 500
HQ: Space Marine Captain in Power Armour (1#, 165 pts)
1 Space Marine Captain in Power Armour, 165 pts = (base cost 100) + Space Marine Bike 35 + Relic Blade x1 30
Troops: Space Marine Bike Squad (5#, 165 pts)
3 Space Marine Bike Squad, 85 pts = 3 * 25 (base cost 25) + Meltagun x1 10
1 Attack Bike, 40 pts
1 Sergeant, 40 pts
Troops: Space Marine Bike Squad (5#, 170 pts)
3 Space Marine Bike Squad, 80 pts = 3 * 25 (base cost 25) + Flamer x1 5
1 Attack Bike, 50 pts = (base cost 40) + Multi-melta 10
1 Sergeant, 40 pts
-
Ah, cool... as someone who has never played bikes, I didn't even realize you could do that with the capt on bike. I like that alot! And it's got character, too, like a Hell's Angels chapter. As an aside, do those bikes also take a fast attack slot? I know when Dark Angels do that with Samael, they are both troop and fast attack, right? How does it read in the SM codex?
Just might be important under a joint FOC... and my codex is at home. Not that I would ever sit at work thinking about 500 pt lists... no, never :D
-
Hmm, I hope we do not have to fit 2 troops and 1 hq into our 500 pt lists. My plan was to start up a Sisters army. Having 2 sisters squads in rhinos and any HQ leaves not enough room for any other units.
-
Two troops and an HQ worked great in the singles but I think I agree. For the doubles a mandatory one troop and one HQ would work best.
-
Heres one of my lists
IG Codex
HQ: Commissar Yarrick- 185 points
Troop: Veteran Squad with 1 flamer- 75 points
Troop: Penal Legion Squad- 80 points
Heavy Support: Deathstrike Missle Launcher with flamer- 160 points
Total: 500 points
List 2:
Codex: Space Marines
HQ: Kor'sarro Khan + Moondrakkan- 205 points
Troop 1: 5 Man Bike Squad- 140 points
Troop 2: 4 Man bike squad + Attack Bike- 155 points
Total- 500 points
What list do you guys like more? The second one is white scars by the way.
-
LOL! Deathstrike missile launcher! Love it!
-
Your second list has no anti-tank or anti-vehicle in it your going to be hard pressed against rhinos and razorbacks nvm a land raider or monolith. If you really want to use Khan drop the attack bike into a regular bike put a melta in each squad use outflanking and your speed to get into melta.range and then assault into the squad inside.
-
I agree with 1 HQ and 1 Troop mandatory.
Needing to take 2 troops can make it difficult for certain codexes to take anything more than 1 hq and 2 troops
-
Yeah, 1 HQ, 1 troop, and an optional single choice of everything else. That was how the Trios tournament was, right?
-

Space Marine Codex:
Mounted Assault: If a Space Marine Captain takes a bike he may take Bike Squads of at least 5 models as troop choices.
So you can take them as Fast Attack if you want a smaller bike unit additionally.

I feel this will be the way of Cheese and I feel every codex outside of a couple can make competent 500 point lists even for doubles.
Yeah, 1 HQ, 1 troop, and an optional single choice of everything else. That was how the Trios tournament was, right?
The reason for this in the Trios was because your shuffling 3 lists around and it would have been more of a headache for Sam (God Bless his Soul) to look at 6 lists then have to shuffle and combine each of the 1000 point lists to make sure those were legal in every game with floating choices.
-
You say more cheese, I say more variation.
Besides, there were some cheesy lists at the last 500 point event.
-
Yup.....I took 2, cout'em TWO, hammerheads in that 500 pt list.
Really, people will be able to cheese out no matter what you do. I think the reason to have only one troop choice is fairly simple....it let's you have more fun. A lot of codexes will be fairly limited in what they will be able to do in 500 pts if forced to take two Troops choices. IN the one 500 pt game we did I think that was kinda the point, and it was fun, but in a doubles it should be much more about the matchup.
-
Yes, fun. In my particular case it will probably mean the difference between starting a new army now and not. I just can't get excited about bringing an army that gives me no choice about what to bring (it only has one troop choice with min squad size of 10).
-
Okay, so the 500 fire has been stoked again. Time to revive the thread that started it all.
http://www.battlegroundgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=3608.0
Many of you new to Battleground will find the thread worth your time, to see how the idea grew organically. Some ideas worked, some didn't.

Hey what should i pick the deathstrike launcher that can have a 4-6 inch blast but only 1 shot or the manticore launcher where it has a large blast but with 4 rockets? Any help from anyone would be awasome
-
I will be looking for a partner for this
I can either bring Dark Eldar or Space Marines
-

You should probably lean toward the Manticore. As devastating as the Deathstrike is, it's one of the most unreliable pieces in the game - you can't even fire the missile most of the time :P

OK. 2 questions, I'm always trying to get more info. Definitely. Definitely more info.
1. Any idea of the date of this tournament?
2. This might sound silly, but is ForgeWorld going to be allowed? Would be cool to run a Repressor instead of a rhino for me sisters.

1. Most likely your going to see the post about it this week or next.
2.not really a silly question but I don't see forgeworld being allowed cause this will be part of the battlegrounds qualifier set of tournaments.

This.
Gimme some time to the store back to normal after PAX, take a deep breath, and get back to the normal grind.

That's what I was figuring, because we should chat.
-
It's looking like we ARE NOT going to end up running a 500 point doubles event in May.
I realize this is a disappointment to some, but the event needs more testing before it fits into the parameters we're looking for.
-
So are we doing a 1250 Doubles instead? Because that would still make us all happy!!!
-

Or 1000pts (like the trios tourney). I think I could finish 1000 or 1250 of Sistahs by late May.
With a 1250 list, the force org we used for the Trios tournament again starts to become a prob, in the opposite direction... it's hard to make it all the way to 1250 with Sisters while being limited to only 1 of each non-troop slot.
-
We're definitely doing Doubles. Not 100% sure how we're going to do it at the moment. I will put up an event post before the week is over though.
-
Ide like to show up with my new space wolves assuming i get enough points painted in time
-
Work on getting a partner, Steve.
-
Hmm I've a feeling the Boy will be all over me to bring him to this one.
Let's see when it is....
-
1250 for doubles is a great value. 1000 already gets done for Trios and is fun but I personally like doubles to be different.
-
if I can teach him the basics fast enough I have a friend that would be interested.
-
1250 is the best I believe for doubles it allows those people to bring their toys and the meat. Also the force org for doubles is totally different.
Each player
1 HQ
1 Elite
1-3 Troops
1 Fast
1 Heavy
And there are Floater spots that either partner can use.
1 Elite
1 Fast
1 Heavy
-
The May event is going to be a "standard" Doubles tournament. 1250 per side. Likely Adepticon scenarios (although old ones).
Event post will hopefully be up before Monday.
-
So I'm disappointed the 500 Doubles won't come to pass. But all the testing I did showed games clocking in around 1.5 hours, and that's a big monkey wrench. I couldn't figure out what if anything should be compromised, so I didn't compromise at all. The idea is shelved for a future date, and hopefully there will be a glorious epiphany to allow 500 Doubles to happen.

Oh, it WILL happen. Someday. The idea is too cool to ignore.
Anyways, time to exercise Ctrl C and Ctrl V...
-
So, why does it need to be 5 rounds in order to be worth doing? Wouldn't 4 rounds still be fun?
-
It would be fun for sure, but at 5 rounds we can run it as a straight Win / Loss event and break it into 4 tiers.
I'm a huge fan of Win / Loss where possible, and it was a huge success in the 500 point Singles. We wanted to keep the same structure and feel for the smaller, strange events.
We are going to work on how we might make it fit for the future. I have considered breaking away from W / L in an effort to "just do it" because the idea is awesome and would definitely be fun but considering I'm not the creator or scenario writer, I have not pushed the issue.
