What is Deathclock?

Instead of using normal timed turns, chess clocks will be used. Each player has a total of 50 minutes to take all of their turns. If a player's clock hits zero, her or she loses. For more information, check out the Steamroller 2014 rules linked at the end of the post.

Why 42 points?

Yeah, its a little weird, I know. The BG Abington community as fallen in love with it for good reason though. Hordes isn't as handicapped as they often are at 35 points, players can bulk out their lists without adding substantial bloat, and games are much faster than at 50 points. Trust us. It's awesome.

This is going to be awesome. Come join the mayhem!

Cool, kewl.  I have no idea how to play a steamroller, btw.

Why 42 pts?  Isn't that a sorta odd number?

What do the coins get you?  Or are they just trophies?

Steamrollers are the PP equivalent of a Rogue Trader event, only it's assumed that you adhere to PPs Steamroller ruleset except for where the event post says otherwise.  Definitely read through them.  They're linked in the OP.

42 points is an odd number to run this event at.  Like the OP says, it's just something the Abington guys like to do.

The coins are just trophies.  People like collecting them.

There is a legend that back in Mk I days, a fun format was 666 for some popular event and this is a number that came close. Back then, the numbers were much higher for model costs in list building.

If you haven't already, you should join the Facebook group for the community:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/221527718008490/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/221527718008490/)

There is much discussion right now about the upcoming SR. Just as a heads up, the community runs the gamut of experience from real green to hardened Mk I vets. You might find questions you have answered in the FB event posting or the Community group itself.

If you find yourself free and can make it, swing down to BG Abington on some Thursday before. You will be able to get some practice in an get an idea of the competition.

OK, thanks.  I guess I'd call myself a displaced 40k player, but I've had a cryx army all the way since Mark 1. Haven't really tried competitive stuff yet, though.

Don't worry, we just got better in MkII.

Hmmm...will be quite a feet to get 42 points built and painted by 3/29 but I am going to give it a go.

I am all over this. Usually I play on my own table so I haven't been into BG a lot to play warmahordes, (especially since league catchup is a pain) but my group will probably make a showing.

I'm assuming no painting requirements? I should have my Trolls painted by then since I'm trying to get them good to go for PAX, but you never know.

No need to have it all painted, although it's cool if it is.

Psyched you're going to make it.  The turnout should be solid for this one.  We need 17 people to break the BG record.  I think this might get there.

Very excited to see new faces! We've got a number of regulars trying out prospective lists on Thursdays between league games. Feel free to come down!

Do you guys get together to play on the weekends...or even Friday evening. I live out in Attleboro so it is difficult to get to Abington on a week night but would love to come for some games on a weekend (though, I'm literally just getting started with WMH...like in the last week and a half).

Nothing regular, but people organize weekend games fairly often. Post something in the facebook group and you'll probably find someone.

I have a couple lists I'm testing but 42 points is hard. You can't just add 7 points to 35, or subtract 8 from 50.

My goal was to have 2 35 point lists finally fully painted for PAX (I just started Trolls around xmas) but there's almost no way I'm going to have everything painted in time for this, since I'm pretty much using different lists entirely. There's some overlap, but I don't want to rush the Party Wagon.

There is no need to rush with painting. While it's encourage, it's not required and we would all agree, it's better to wait for a badass paint job than one the painter is not satisfied with.

definitely don't rush.  Once things are "done" they very often are done.

OK guys...  how would it be for me to show up to this, not knowing how to play very well yet?  I can't make the event on the 23rd so I'm mulling showing up to this instead just to get my day of gaming in.  I'm fine with the losing... but... would it be disruptive to have a player who maybe isn't rock solid on the rules yet?

The only downside is that often rules will need to be explained to you, which means the clock is going to have to be stopped or flipped over to your time while it is being explained to you.  This can often result in you losing significant time(depending on how much you need explained).  So you might get clocked more often than an average player, or might feel rushed due to this.  But if you are ok with it, I doubt any of the regulars would have a huge issue with it.

Or maybe you'll just get beat really fast and the clock won't be an issue!

As long as you dont think you'll be upset about losing to the clock, you should be fine.

You don't need to, but shooting me an email can't hurt.

This event is shaping up to have a pretty solid turnout.

Yeah! It's great to see considering how much work the community has put in to building tables, terrain, organizing, promotion... Seeing people excited and getting to meet new players makes all of that extra worth it.

How often are tournaments planned at the store? Also, any change of getting 50 point events?

This is the first the Abington community has put together. I expect we will do more. Not sure exactly how often, but no less than every other month I imagine.

Pimp dat shit hard tomorrow.  There will be a bunch of Dark Age people sharing the 9 tables I've got set up in Plainville for tomorrow.  I think all of them play WM/H.
