Title: X-Wing TMG - BG Community Thread
Post by: commanderfrost on May 18, 2014, 09:00:55 PM
Hi Everyone!

I wanted to pop up a thread for the ever growing X-wing community at BG. My goal is to have a central place with some helpful links for new players, as well as regular posts about upcoming product and anything else that is interesting related to the game itself.

Looking for a game? BG Plainville has a great group of players that meet on Thursday nights around 7 pm. There is a rotating list of events and mini-tourneys, and it is a very "New Player Friendly" environment! Come over and say Hi! You can check out the Thursday night thread here:

Thanks Brian, this thread is a really great idea.

As much I enjoyed running the demo for you, I haven't actually had the time to play much more myself! Like so many before you, now you are the master. But with those links, I started tinkering with a list concept. That's usually where it starts for me!

Just a reminder to all who plan on attending Imdaar Alpha, don't forget to consider builds for the final match-up with either of the new ships! I wonder, what if someone came with just one side, then was assigned the other side for the final match? How does assigning sides work? I don't have a huge collection, but if that happened, someone could use my ships to fill out their squad, I suppose.

Also, Let the wookie win.

I will be working on a list for the June event and test it when I can - soon.

Can not wait to start. I feel really good that this will be a quickly growing group of players.

Suggestion: Should we spread the word about Plainville- Battleground to other websites that are about players searching for local X-Wing groups to join? This way it would increase the player base.

Hello Everyone!

Here we are in the shadows of the fabulous Imdaar Alpha Event, and Fantasy Flight has published a great article about my favorite ship : The Firespray-31 !

link to FFG article: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4851 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4851)

They even feature the exact list that I ran this past weekend as part of the article:

=============================================================================
Firespray Ties
==============

99 points

Pilots
------

Krassis Trelix (43)
Firespray-31 (36), Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Howlrunner (20)
TIE Fighter (18), Swarm Tactics (2)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)

Academy Pilot (12)
=============================================================================

Enjoy the article, and give the Firespray a try.

Wave 5 ships announced!

The Rebellion’s YT-2400 and the Imperial’s VT-49 Decimator.

If you look closely at that Decimator, you can see that it has 12 Hull and 4 Shields powered by the tears of the Rebel Alliance!  ;)

Hello Everyone!

FFG dropped a great article on the hotly anticipated TIE Phantom pilot "ECHO"!

Head on over to the Fantasy Flight site to give it a read over!
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4880 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4880)

The Tie Phantom, and Wave 4 in general, are going to be huge META-changers, and I think we are going to see all four of these new ships getting used frequently both at BG and on the larger scale.

I've got a quick rule question for the X-wing community, not sure if this thread was meant for such things but here it goes. I picked up a Z-95 and I'm a little confused about the ion pulse missile. It reads that a ship hit by it gets two ion tokens, but the ion token rules card says to do a 1 forward move, then remove all ion tokens. So what's the point of the missile dealing two ion tokens?
Title: Re: X-Wing TMG - BG Community Thread

It takes 2 ion tokens to affect large ships such as the Falcon.   Ion missiles let you do that in one shot.

Post by: commanderfrost on July 13, 2014, 06:51:17 PM
Zaroth is correct. The Ion Pulse Missile is meant to slow down those large base ships like Firespray-31's, Lambda Shuttles, and the Millennium Falcon.

Okay, kool. Thanks, I've never played with a big ship and never brought ion against one so it never came up. Now to put this thing to use on them pesky tie interceptors and slow them down a bit, although Soontir Fel can still boost, barrel roll and evade. Imperials have all the fun.

By now most of us are aware of how insanely maneuverable Tie-Phantom pilot "Echo" is. This site creates a visual for you, and it is incredibly useful if you fly (or fly against!) this ship.

Enjoy!

On top of all of that, it can barrel roll as an action for a little more added maneuverability, as if it needs it. I picked one up last night and can't wait to attempt to fly the ship next Thursday. And if I'm brave enough, I might even stick swarm tactics and push the limits on Soontir Fel to try to keep up with it and allow it to shoot at PS9 and cloak again right after.

Hey Everyone,

Glad I got to make a game last week, I'm traveling and so won't make the next two games.

I had a question come up during one of my games about the new Ion Pulse Missiles and using the a Target Lock. It turns out you don't need to spend your lock, you just need to have one.

http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/Ion_Pulse_Missiles (http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/Ion_Pulse_Missiles)

Here's the Wiki entry for reference. This makes the Z-95 Headhunters a little more useful or for any ship using these missiles.

Happy gaming and see everyone next week.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to post that Fantasy Flight has updated the Tourney Rules and the FAQ, and that there are some changes that will definitely impact the game as we play it.

Link : http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4950 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4950)

Some Highlights:
From the X-Wing Tournament Rules

* "we’ve retired the strength of schedule tiebreaker in favor of a new system, margin of victory. This will make it easier for tournament organizers to resolve tiebreakers, and puts each player in control of their own destiny by rewarding big wins and players who fight for every point, even when they’re losing." - This is particularly exciting.

From the X-Wing FAQ:
* Large based ships performing a barrel roll now use the LONG edge of the barrel roll template. This will reduce both the side to side, as well as the forward and back distance these ships can travel.

* Advanced Sensors and Phantoms : If a TIE Phantom uses Advanced Sensors to perform a
cloak action, it cannot immediately decloak.

Hello Everyone!

Fantasy Flight released a couple of previews into the Wave 5 ships this week.

First up is the Imperial answer to the Millennium Falcon: The VT-49 Decimator!
A link to the whole article is here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4981 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4981)

The highlight of the article, for me at least, is this pilot that goes to RAMMING SPEED!

Next up is the Rebellion's entry in Wave 4 - The YT-2400 Freighter!
A direct link to the article is here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4980 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4980)

There have been a couple of earlier previews that showcase the crew for this ship. Now we are seeing the pilots that fly the various forms of the Outrider.

Check out Dash:

With a built in barrel roll, and all of the other options available, the YT-2400 looks like a winner. I fully expect to be seeing several Outriders and Decimators on the tables once Wave 5 gets released.

Be sure to keep up to date with all of the new releases here, and come down to BG Plainville on Thursday nights for regular X-Wing play.

Hello Everyone!

They just announced a new faction for X-Wing at Gencon. Very little information is available currently, but here you go:

"Scum and Villainy" Faction
IG-88's ship the IG-2000
Star Viper
M3-A Interceptor
Something called "Most Wanted" which includes conversions for Slave I and HWK-290

So this appears to be a Bounty Hunter Faction/Criminal Underworld Faction that will utilize a mix of existing ships and a few new ones like the Star Viper and IG-2000. It has been officially labeled Wave-6, so we are likely 6 months away on these guys.

They also announced a thing called "Mission Control" which is labeled as an online toolset for X-wing. My thought is that this will be a list builder/collection tracker.

As more information becomes available I will update you!

EDIT!! New ships on display at Gencon:

More new information about Scum and Villainy rolling in from the official source, FFG.

Link to Article here:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4998

Along with new ships there is a "Most Wanted" Pack
(http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/news/scum-and-villainy/Most-Wanted-product-shot_v3b.png)

Right from the article:
"Most Wanted Expansion Pack

How does a new faction enter X-Wing with enough firepower to take the fight to Rebel and Imperial forces? It starts with the Most Wanted Expansion Pack and its slate of thugs, hired guns, pirates, and spice runners, as well as a new version of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

Most Wanted is a collection of ship cards, upgrades, tokens, and dials that allow you to repurpose some of your existing starships for use within the Scum faction. You’ll find support for the Firespray-31, HWK-290, Y-wing, and Z-95 Headhunter. Additionally, you’ll find three starfighter miniatures that have been given alternative paint schemes and re-outfitted for use by the Scum faction: two Z-95 Headhunters and one Y-wing.

One Y-wing miniature with an alternative, Scum-themed paint scheme
Two Z-95 Headhunter miniatures with Black Sun paint schemes
Four Scum faction Firespray-31 ship cards
Four Scum faction HWK-290 ship cards
Six Scum faction Y-wing ship cards
Six Scum faction Z-95 Headhunter ship cards
Nineteen upgrade cards
Maneuver dials and tokens for your Scum Firespray-31, HWK-290, Y-wing, and Z-95 Headhunters
So that you can pilot your ships, Most Wanted introduces twenty ship cards, the most for any X-Wing release to-date. It also allows you to upgrade your starships by outfitting them with any of its nineteen upgrade cards, including a host of new Salvaged Astromech upgrades , modification and Title upgrades for your Y-wings, new secondary weapons (one of which is illicit), and a trio of Scum only crew members that includes the infamous Rodian bounty hunter, Greedo.

With all of its ships, pilots, upgrades, dials, and tokens, the Most Wanted Expansion Pack comes with everything that you need to send your Scum into battle and derive a profit from your illegal investments!"

The "Most Wanted" pack certainly lives up to it's name for me - it looks to be a HUGE value for a X-Wing player. I'll leave everyone with the amazing new Boba Fett Pilot card:

Oh yeah. The Hype Train is boarding now, hop on.

Went to the FFG site to look at the announcement.  IG-88s ship the IG-2000 looks awesome.  It's basicly a suped up fighter on a large base.  It has 4 named pilots (the 4 IG-88s) and no generic.  If you field multiple IG-2000s, you can give them all the IG-2000 title which gives each ship all the special abilities of all IG-2000 pilots on the field.
There are other early gimpses of the other new ships.  The new faction looks like it will be awesome.

It was a long time coming.

Brian asked for this like 6 months ago.

Sam made it happen this past weekend (or so).

Also, I plan to host at least 2 "larger" X-Wing events on a Saturday or Sunday this fall / winter once the new kits come in.  You can thank Brian for that too.

Hello Everyone!

Fantasy Flight has updated the FAQ and Tourney rules .PDF's

FAQ
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-FAQ-low-res.pdf (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-FAQ-low-res.pdf)

Tourney
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf)

Official FFG release page:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5130 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5130)

These changes go into effect on October 20th.

From the original FFG Post:

""A Word from the Developers

Hello pilots!

This time around in the FAQ we have a couple of errata, a couple of rules clarifications, and a few minor rules changes. The tournament rules feature one minor change that will allow tournament organizers to manage pairings more easily, as well as make each match more competitive by pairing players to opponents with similar Margin of Victory records.

Both of the errata come from the new YT-2400 Expansion Pack: Lone Wolf and Stay on Target.  This resolves some confusion about whether a ship is considered at Range 1 of itself (it is) and whether Stay on Target can be used abusively in tandem with Navigator (it can’t).

The rules clarifications and changes affect a few corner cases that will not come up often for most players. The first rules clarification has to do with values being increased and decreased by different game effects, which has become relevant with the introduction of the VT-49 Decimator and its agility value of “0.” The other clarification is tied to a rule change around Autoblaster and the distinction between “dice results” and “hit or evade results.” We’ve also simplified Proximity Mines and changed the way stationary maneuvers and overlapping interact.

Additionally, the new FAQ provides answers to questions surrounding Dash Rendar, Keyan Farlander, Push the Limit, Experimental Interface, and what happens if a ship overlaps both an asteroid and a debris cloud.

Thanks for continuing to support this great game, and we hope to see you this November for the 2014 World Championship Weekend!

Happy hunting,
Frank Brooks and Alex Davy ""
