I'm hoping to find a suitable matte finish/varnish for my Flames of War models. I picked up some GW 'ardcoat and saw it is gloss varnish. That's good enough for underneath the models but I don't want the entire model to be shiny.
What is a good but affordable matte varnish to use? I'd prefer spray but if I have to hand paint it on that's fine too. Not sure what direction to go with this because it has been so long since I painted anything and even longer since I thought about a matte finish.

GW makes a Matte varnish spray, if I remember correctly. I've used that and it worked beautifully.

I will only use Testor's varnish. They make a variety of finishes; including matte. The stuff GW makes is much too fussy to be worth the time.
Minute Man in Braintree carries it.

Thanks Ian. I'll check into that. Sims thanks for your input too. Think I'll stay away from anything too fussy. Don't want to mess it up.
Testor's varnish sounds idiot proof enough for me. Everyone's help is much appreciated. :)

Ian I checked at the store for the Testor's varnish you mentioned. Didn't see it there. Is this something you usually find at BG and do you remember about how much it goes for? I really appreciate your advice on this. Thanks :)

Ian is the thing you use called Testor's Dullcote? It is a spray matte varnish sort of thing. Looks something like the picture below?

That's the one.
I forget how expensive it is. I've never seen it at BG.

Thank you kindly. You rock!
