Pokemon TCG!
« on: August 03, 2010, 04:06:51 AM »
Recently my friends and I found our old cards and started a few decks with them. Old-school cards don't stand a chance against this fancy-schmancy new school stuff, but we have fun.  ;D

Anyone else play? Game's great, simple and fun, all you really need. BG should support it more.

Fire all up in this mother!  8) ;D

There's a lot of people that play the game around here.  Most of them play the "newer" format that probably doesn't allow most of your old cards, but I'm sure the same people have older stuff too.

Just ask around. :)

;D Sounds good. I'm trying to get my deck up to speed with the current format, (Played at the store, got my face smashed in by people playin the newer stuff) so I was mostly hoping I could arrange a few trades here, since I'm horrible at starting things face-to-face, but arright.

Any plans on starting to host Pokemon tournaments or something at all, Chase?

It sort of depends.  We did start a Pokemon league a while back and had a limited amount of success with it.  The reason for its eventual failure was 100% out fault.

I do plan to do something with Pokemon in Plainville when time allows.  I think it will be incredibly important there.

Any updates on this?  I know of a few people who may be interested in this - depending on when it's held. There's definitely a void in that I95/I495 area for people don't want to go the RI, Milford or Brockton leagues.  Are you interested in partnering with Tom Shea's network of leagues or doing it yourself?

Hey, thanks for coming here to check things out!

Sadly, not much progress has been made just yet.  I have been meaning to make a phone call that will really get the ball rolling for us.  I would expect to see developments with respect to Pokemon shortly.  I am almost finished organizing our "kick off" events for the various other games we support.

I would expect Pokemon events to appear on our schedule in mid-late October.

We will try to get the kids and parents down on Sunday's at noon.

We will be doing it ourselves, not partnering with Tom Shea.

Feel free to shoot me an email, I am much more likely to respond quickly and with more consistency that way.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I didn't realize the Plainville store just had a soft opening this month until I did a little more snooping around the forum.  Looking forward to the grand opening next month.  In the meantime I'll mention it to some of the other parents I know.

I like the Sunday start time.  Have you thought of the format - tournament vs free play?  Will it be an official Pokemon league?  No rush on the answer since you have about a month to think about it.  Otherwise I would have emailed you.  :)

No problem!  It might seem like Pokemon is a back burner thing for me but it's actually EXTREMELY important to me and the growth of the business in both locations.  If everything works out as planned over the next month it will be my top priority.

It's really cool that you're looking into this on behalf of your kid and friends.

Anyways, the format at first will likely be free play as part of an official league.  I will have to explore the options.  I have reason to believe a new Battle Road season has started which we will not be able to participate in I'm sure.

If the league goes well, there are players in the area, and the community is interested I'd definitely run tournaments.  Tournaments (maybe in addition to the league?) is the goal and hopefully we can get things to that point sooner than later.

My son and I are going to try and make it out on Sunday for some Pokemon!

Great.  You'll be the 3rd father and son set there.

We are going to continue to put effort into growing the Pokemon league in the coming weeks.  Currently our efforts have been limited to online "advertising" and word of mouth only.

We appreciate the support from our current players and I really hope we can get you guys some more opponents soon!  ;)
