nice job,   that must be the smaller scale, is it 1/2400?   how many points are in those old glory battlefleets we looked at? http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=602

Tim,

Nope that's 1/1200 scale :) they are small now...1/2400 is WAY WAY Smaller and much much less detail on the models...

Here is a picture of the difference in scale from 1/1200 to 1/2400

from what I can figure the Old Glory 1/2400 fleets run about....

Trafalgar - British Fleet
This boxed set contains 31 ships for the British fleet. These beautiful 1 piece castings are done in white metal.
This set includes: 3 x 100 gun ships = 975pts with no upgrades
4 x 98 gun ships = 1100pts with no upgrades
1 x 80 gun ship = 225pt with no upgrades
8 x 74 gun ships # 1 = 592pts with no upgrades
8 x 74 gun ships #2 = 592pts with no upgrades
3 x 64 gun ships = 600pts with no upgrades
4 frigates = 500pts with no upgrades

That's a total of 4584pts with no upgrades for a grand total price of $69.75 + shipping.

That looks really good.  Turns out I don't have as many ships as I thought, I've only got the 2 British 74's.  I'll see about picking some more up so we can get going on the game though.

Rigging and everything huh.  That's the one reason 1/2400 is an appealing scale.  Nobody rigs those.

You know I thought the 1/1200 was to small...and the much larger 1/700th or even 1/300 ships are nicer from a modeling perspective even if the price is a little higher.

Great job on the HMS "Valiant", she looks great!!

How long did it take to rig her?  Was it difficult?  Any reference material in the rulebook as to fleet color schemes?

Thanks Grey...  How long did it take to rig?  maybe an hour or two max. I could have doubled my rigging if I wanted to get more accurate and I think I may still add the ratlines. Not to hard just need some good lighting and tweezers. The book has color schemes in it. I do have an extra copy of the book that I may leave at the store in Abington as a store reference book. Plus if you have any questions about building the model or painting or rigging just ask away :)

i cant find any 1/1200 scale anywhere,   does the book recommend a company,      i love the tiny scale,   cheap to get into, slap some paint and off you go.   no worries about modeling rigging.

I just finished my second ship in the fleet,  she is a 28 gun Frigate

The HMS "Pimpernel"

After seeing the pictures online I can see some touch up areas and of course I need pennants and flags.

Those ships are coming out very nicely.  Been working on my Soviet Flames of War minis but am interested in seeing/playing a game.

No Problem... I ran a game with my Dad with only 2 ships per side... It was slow going as we were both learning but it was FUN.

Exciting news... A new fleet is on its way from Rod Langton Models.

A new French Fleet with...

1: 1st Rate "Le Imperial" (118 gun)
1: 2nd Rate "Le Conquerant" (80 Guns)
4: Large 3rd Rates "Le Orion" "Le Achille" Le Athenien" "Le Trident" (74 Guns)

All ship names are taken from the French registry of Ships of their size dating around 1795-1815

Also joining them is a British 1st Rate 100 gun "Queen Charlotte"

Which completes my British Fleet with:

1: 1st Rate "Queen Charlotte" (100 Gun)
1: Large 3rd Rate "HMS Resolution" (74 Gun)   (PAINTED)
1: 3rd Rate "HMS Trident" (64 Gun) (PAINTED)
2: 4th Rates "HMS Adamant" "HMS Medusa" (54 & 50 Guns) (PAINTED)
1: 5th Rate "HMS Hawk" (32 Guns) (PAINTED)

All ship names are taken from the Royal Navy registry of Ships of their size dating around 1795-1815

Both fleets sit around 1150pts before upgrades.

Can't wait to add to these fleets with smaller faster unrated ships or even stay large and form blockade strength fleets. Or maybe I will choose to make an American fleet who will have much lighter ships but many more :)

I had an awesome test game with Matt tonight.  Really fun to play...still need to get my French fleet once it arrives from the UK up and running but right now sample games with three ships each is a nice start.

Thanks Matt...

If anyone would like to play let me know... I am open this coming Tuesday. I will be playing at least 1 game with Tim.
