GW Purity Seal
« on: February 15, 2011, 01:29:13 PM »
How do you guys feel about the Purity Seal?  Will it make a model look glossy or chalky?

What do people use to seal their models these days?

Vallejo makes a nice spray matte varnish, they also have a satin varnish which some people like.  Testors is also very good.

Testors Dull Coat is the only matt varnish as far as I am concerned. I have ruined far too many models with GW stuff.

Yeah, dude. Every time I've gotten lazy and just picked up anything else because I didn't want to make a trip, I've been punished. Nothing but Testors for me.

As a note for people who have not used dull cote before: It does not protect as well as others it is more used for evening out tones and dulling inks/washes. I personally do a gloss coat and than do a coat of Testors to remove the gloss this gives the protection of ard'coat and the perfection of Testors.

I am a huge fan of touch and tone spray paints that I use for primers. They also make a gloss cote. On a side note; I get touch and tone for $2.00 at ACMoore and it is the smoothest primer for all colors I have ever used.

When I use the stuff, I use a Krylon Gloss first, it's tougher, and then Testors Dull Cote.
