"Major changes" coming to the GW paint line at the end of March
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:56:51 PM »
While speaking to my GW rep a few minutes ago, he let me in on an interesting piece of information regarding the Citadel paint line.

Apparently, at the end of March there will be "large changes" to the way GW sells their paint.  He was not able to give me any specifics because he claims to not know anything more about it.  He did say that his boss, who was told about it in the middle of last week, had a "nerdgasm" over the changes.  He compared them to the washes in terms of how "great" or "well received" he expects them to be.

The way I am able to order paint has also changed, but that has little to do with you guys.

I was advised to tell "my community" that if they are in the middle of painting an army and feel like they might need / want more paint than they currently have, then they should probably think about stocking up sooner than later.

GW wants us to "sell down" what we currently have in preparation for this new stuff.  We'll see how that goes....

While Foundation Paints and the new washes were awesome, I am always skeptical about GW changing things.

I'll be a good, nervous doobie and stock up in a couple days.

I'm very nervous about this, so I think I'll get a few pots of the SUPER important colors.

If there's a color you love, it's probably a good idea to get an extra pot or two.

I'm in the process of reviewing "the numbers" for 2011 here in Plainville.  I figured this little tid-bit was interesting and relevant...

Top 3 selling paint pots of 2011 in Plainville:

Paint: Chaos Black
Badab Black Citadel Wash
Paint: Boltgun Metal

Despite popular belief... we sold almost 33% more Badab Black than we did Devlan Mud.  :)  Pretty cool.

I'm surprised that they havn't changed earlier.

I have switched over primarily to Vallejo Paints for primary color's. The dropper is much easier to use and waste's less causing the paints not to dry out very easily. The exception to this is GW's orange and yellow's for some reason they are better.

GW does make great washes, and foundation though :)

My conversation with GW went similarly. I asked him if he suspected that this would also entail a change in paint pots. He said he wasn't sure, but that it definitely wasn't just about a change in pots; there will almost certainly be some colors disappearing and some added.

Personally, I'm looking forward to this. The current GW paint pots, and their predecessor, cause the paints to dry out too soon. As a point of comparison, the paint within a set of GW paint pots I picked up in 1998 are still liquid and useable.

The dropper bottles that Reaper and Vallejo use are great but I do notice I'm reluctant to use them when I'm painting a larger model, preferring the open-topped bottles GW offers.

I love the old pots I would say 75% of my paints are from the 90's for that exact reason and I have colors like Amethyst and so on that they dont make anymore.  But are still in great shape.  Actually still have the original washes from the first was set as well. Chestnut was the bomb.  Only prob is I have to use it sparingly because it doesnt exsist any more.
