Call Of Cthulhu
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:25:08 PM »
“That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.”

Hey,
This is Mike Russell, for those who don't know me I'm sure someone can point me out.  I am looking to run a Call Of Cthulhu campaign starting soon.  I'm looking for players, ages 16+, to join.

Mike talked alittle bit with me today on this and it looks fun.I've played a Cthulu based tabletop rpg and had alot of fun with it.I'm not 100% sure if I'm in completely yet or not, depending on when he gets chance to run it, but I'm defently interested.I need to get to BG more anyhow and it'd be another reason.  :)

Talked with Mike alittle today on this; Looking to start either this Saterday, or next. It's due to some of the material is why he added the 16+. Sorry. Looks to be all you'll need is some dice and a mini.Modern setting. Just sharing some details.    8)

Still looks like around 7:00 start?  Lovecraft horror isn't my favorite of all genres, but I'm looking for an excuse to get back into circulation.  I'll likely swing by.

A mini and some dice?  Is the first great mystery of the campaign the number of sides on the dice?  Those who do not know are unworthy?

To the scientist there is the joy in pursuing truth which nearly counteracts the depressing revelations of truth.

Good fun first run last night.  There were times, though, it seemed we were too busy having fun to advance the plot.  I liked the byplay between Tam and Freya, but it effected the balance between drama and comedy.  I'll be thinking on Tamya's personality through the week, and may play her a bit more subtly next time around.

Seeing as how I'm re-designing my character from scratch you won't have to worry about that too much Bob. My character's gonna be...well, the opposite of the one you saw. Y'all will be in for a real surprise/treat, trust me. I won't be there this weekend (tomorrow) because I'm working from 12-9, and I won't be there next weekend since I'll be in New York but the weekends following I'll be there every one. Mike we'll talk about my character and re-doing it etc. when I'm back in the store. Cheers!

I've been tuning Tamya.  Last week I knew she was a photographer.  I'm now slanting her towards Paparazzi.  Her heavy skills are Spot Hidden, Hide, Sneak, Photography and...  Model / Escort.  Not quite sure how the last will help her as a paranormal investigator, but you never know...

Didn't want to compete with Chris's professor as a classic detective, so am trying to come up with something useful from another angle.  We'll see.

Based off of your character's fears I think paparazzi makes more sense because it means she stalks celebrities and is able to call them out on not being 'dressed appropriately' giving your character a field day.
I went from scary Boston based athlete investigator to a sweet southern professor of psychology. My character isn't a run of the mill investigator though, she's doing it for her own personal interests in the field of psychology, which is mainly figuring out the motives behind the crimes, not solving them.

After my first time in the game it seems professor is the most useful, especially if your field varies from that of the others' in the group, so I am completely fine competing with the dashing professor Chris made xD

Cures for the lack of sanity points?
« Reply #13 on: March 11, 2012, 12:11:33 PM »
Yesterday you mentioned that there are things one can do to recover in Call of Cuthulu after one's sanity point level has gone negative.  I've been trying to think what they might be.  In character, the preliminary list might include...

  • Whisky.
  • Frequent checks under the bed for rats with tiny human hands and faces.
  • Burning the clothes one wore during the recent investigation.
  • Taking pictures of burning clothes.
  • Whisky.
  • Burning clothes similar to those worn during the recent investigation.
  • More pictures.
  • Find a good liar who can hold her, rock her gently, smooth her hair,  and say everything will be all right.
  • Sex
  • Removing legs from bed so the rats with human hands and faces can't get out from underneath.
  • Whisky
  • Sex
  • Finding something in her wardrobe better worn than burned.
  • Go shopping.
  • Download fireplace imitation application for her iMac.
  • Download fireplace imitation app for iPod.
  • Download fireplace imitation app for iPhone.
  • Point digital cameras at iMac and iPad so they show fire in their display.
  • Fiddle with camera controls so they they don't go into sleep mode.  Screens can't be allowed to fade to black.
  • Burn Arkham Witch House.
  • Take pictures of burning Arkham Witch House.
  • Compile list of occult libraries and possible occult libraries in the Arkham area.
  • Whisky.
  • Redo library list assuming there might be something old and odd in the stacks somewhere.
  • Talk to the Professor.

Is this about right?  Should there be more sex and lies?

You know I think it's lacking sex and whisky, just my opinion though ;)
