Imperial Armour Question
« on: May 04, 2012, 06:12:25 PM »
Just a question for the 40K crowd.

So I have been looking through a copy of IA:8 with all the Ork goodies.  Now most of the awesome stuff is only available if you play a Dread Mob list.  There are a couple of units that IA:8 says you can take with a normal Ork list (such as Grot Tanks, fast attack slot or elite if you run a Big Mek).  The question is, do our normal players (especially on Thursday nights) have a problem with people playing with these units in friendly games?

The grot tanks look really cool (and actually useful for Orks) and I would like to purchase/scratch-build a few, but want to make sure that I would be able to use them in a game before I invest in them.

It'll depend a lot on the individual, but I doubt you'd have much of a problem. I know I wouldn't mind playing against a Forgeworld list, although I suppose if I were practicing for a tournament I might have a slight preference for playing a list I might actually see there. If you're worried, you could always post in the Thursday 40k thread beforehand just to make sure you have a game lined up.

I've played against several armies using forgeworld before, never minded.  Forgeworld has some neat models and neat units and it's always nice to see something different in use.  Plus, you never know when that forgeworld unit will became a standard unit.

I play with FW models occasionally, and haven't encountered any issues.  Most of the people I game with are pretty cool about them, especially if it's just casual gaming.  I've played against others who like to bring FW models as well, and I never really noticed any huge difference in the game play or style.

I know in Plainville there is limited familiarity with Forgeworld. I can't think of anyone who would have a problem, especially if it's a casual game. It's the type of thing where you should make sure you can run a legit list as a Plan B. But most people I imagine are curious what FW offers.

Dunno, but they should, because I just pictured the Emperor riding a motorcycle and it's pretty awesome.

They have Ork Bikes, the Warboss on the bike is freaking awesome, but very expensive.  I am pretty sure they don't have Space Marine Bikes.  Besides, you can just buy a Ravenwing Battleforce and take all the Dark Angel stuff off.

The Grot tanks are really sweet, most of them look like French WWI tanks (Renault FT-17's).  I look forward to putting them together.

Hey, you could always get some Ork Bikes and put Space Marines on them.  I actually thought about doing the reverse to make a couple of Ork Bikers.

Buying any more bikes than the ones I have is going to start being Overkill. At most I would probably get one more squad of 5 to make a Command Squad but even then 21 bikes is kinda ridiculous.
