BFG on Monday, June 22!
« on: June 21, 2009, 12:47:15 AM »
Ian and I will be playing a 2,000 point Battlefleet Gothic game this coming Monday.  Anybody interested in the game is encouraged to come watch at least part of it to see what it's like. :)
It's the throwing phase now.

How was the game?  Ian, how did your fleet perform?  You said there were many lances in the build; did they work to your liking?  Hope all went well.

Ian's fleet was not as big as it needed to be.  We both agree that he put too much into upgrades, enough that could have bought him a battleship.  Next time he'll either have more or we'll play a lower point game.  That may have cost him a good portion of the game.  Ian said that he was learning a lot with just the two games he played, which makes me happy.  And the Demiurg ship again performed to very good capability.

The game didn't go so well for the Thousand Sons. Rob covered the major problem in his post: my upgrades. In my fervor to match my fleet to my 40k army, I spent enough points to buy a grand cruiser. I think the Thousand Sons will only be passengers in the future.

I noticed that its really, really important to be aware of your opponent's army list when determining first turn. I pounced on first turn as in many games that's superior, but it gave Rob the opportunity to  order Lock On first, which had me playing defensively the rest of the game.

Anyway, I love all the lances. I need to pick up a few more torpedo escorts, but over all, I like most of how I built my fleet.

Ian, I like your fleet as well.  Besides the upgrades, I wouldn't remove anything from it.  You have a good mix of cruisers and escorts, and if I hadn't managed to lower them to a safe number they would have destroyed my few escorts and started flanking my ships.  Chaos has some good firepower ships, and the fact that one of your ships' crew apparently all hit the deck was horrifying.

I wrote up a new list. The extra points actually bought me a 400 pt battleship. Ha! The Acheron's all lance armament wasn't quite as potent as I thought it would be. I really need to be taking advantage of Chao's bigger gun batteries, so I switched it out. Here's my updated list. I'll be ordering the two new ships next week.

Despoiler Class Battleship - 400
Torpedoes - 10
Chaos Lord - 25
CSM Crew - 35
Reroll - 25

Hades Class Heavy Cruiser - 200
Chaos Lord - 25
Murder Class Cruiser - 170

Devastation Class Cruiser - 190
Devastation Class Cruiser - 190

Slaughter Class Cruiser - 165

Slaughter Class Cruiser - 165

3 Idolator Escorts - 135

3 Infidel Escorts - 120

Well if you're around on Wednesday, Ian, and it isn't an inconvenience, I would like to see how you painted your fleet.
