Black Powder Rules via Warlord Games
« on: March 03, 2011, 08:59:13 PM »
Through doing my blog and podcast I've been slowly getting more interested in the Black Powder rules from Warlord Games.

I know that several people, Paul G and Nick H and Adrian B, are interested in the historical miniatures aspect of that time period.

Who is interested in Black Powder and what war/theatre/ do people have armies for or want to get armies for?

I'm prepared to do a small outlay of funds to try Black Powder and want to take the lay of the land before jumping in.

I got some Perry Miniatures American militia figs.  Also have the rulebook.  Who else is in and what do you have and how much of it do you have?

I think Nick H. and Paul G. have armies (Redcoats and Continental Army respectively) and I think Adrian owns the rulebook.

It'd be awesome if a veteran player could give me some tips and advice.

hey,

I own the book and am assembling British infantry, my Brits are Napoleonic but that wont stop me.   If anyone wants to play historical games I would be very interested,   I talked to people before, but I had no money for an army then, but Christmas solved that,  Ill look up that old thread and see who was interested, mayhaps they still are...

Jonathan,

I am interested in what scale you are looking at. I have some plastic 1/72 AWI. will these match up to your Perrys? Not painted yet, naturally, but If they work who knows.

Just so you know, I have the following in 15mm:

           15mm American Civil War
           15mm Napoleonics - French, Austrians
             6mm WW2 Desert - German, English, Italian

Currently, working on 6mm for Force on Force

Unpainted Mahdist, and Zulus. All in 15mm

Hi Cort.  My apologies to everyone for not posting in this thread as often as I should.  I've been working on my Black Powder and sharing information on my progress on my blog and podcast.  Going to http://wargamingforums.com/tag/black-powder/ will show you all of the Black Powder content.

We're all using 28mm although 25mm would be close enough, I think....and by using I mean we're assembling and painting 28mm figs.  I haven't played any Black Powder games at the store although I can't speak for the others.  The 15mm would be fun to use to help learn the rules though.

I can never remember what mm = what 1/72 etc.

1/72 is about 25mm scale.  Most models would be 21-23mm, though scale creep has affected the scale of some manufactures.

Jonathan,

No need to apologize. I got the info through your podcast which I am behind as usual. I am only up to 52-53 I think. I do not post here that often either. I just assume people at Battleground where not that interested in Historicals. I will follow you on the blog. I think the 1/72 stuff maybe a little short. They usually come out at 20mm to 25mm. I bought them when "The Age of Reason" rules came out. I really wanted to try those rules out. I though that I could manage painting 12 figure Regiments, but I hate painting soft plastic.

I will see what I can scrap-up. I have been waiting for some 18th century plastics to come along. I do not have Black Powder. I almost purchased it, but assumed I would never be able to play it.

Cort, I own a copy of the rules.  So does Adrian.  The "historical gang" usually gathers on Wednesdays.  Please come down and hang out with us.  You can take a look at the rulebook.  I think most of us are willing to try just about anything even if we don't collect armies for it.

One of these days Adrian is gonna teach us Trafalgar in fact.  We're a casual group so I don't think anyone would have a problem with you using the 1/72 stuff with the 28mm.  We just like to get some games in and, when we're in Plainville, grab an overpriced beer next door.

That's great that you listen to the podcast.  Hopefully you enjoy it.  Feel free to send us feedback.  We read it all.

I think a few of the guys are interested in playing as long as they don't have to make the armies, which is ok.  I've read that it is common for historical gamers to buy two opposition armies so they can play and a friend can play too.
