« on: November 23, 2010, 04:17:27 PM »
Announcing the first annual Onslaught GT!

This will be held Feb. 5th and 6th at Templecon in Warwick RI at The Crowne Plaza Hotel Providence-Warwick.

Discussion: Here

Registration: Here

Note: Buying a ticket for the GT also includes Templecon for the entire weekend! There are many other events going on all weekend, from Magic, 40k, Bloodbowl, and of course Warmachine/Hordes.

Rule summary:

We will be using ETC restrictions, here is the latest ruleset for Warhammer Fantasy:
Quote:
Rules changes:
- Characters will get "look out sir" versus the following spells that automatically kill models or automatically remove an entire regiment: Dwellers Below, Final Transmutation, Dreaded 13th, Infernal Gateway 11-12 effect. Normal requirements for lookout sir apply.

General Restrictions:
2400 Points.
No Special or Named Characters.
Army used can be any of the currently published GW Army books.
A maximum of 3 identical core choices may be taken (regardless of equipment and other upgrades)
A maximum of 5 warmachines may be taken per army
Max. 45 models with missile weapons with a range of 20”+ (not incl. war machines, characters and chariots).
Unit sizes of are limited as follows:
- Non-infantry units (including monstrous infantry): Maximum 16 models/unit
- Infantry costing 5 points or less: Maximum 50 models/unit
- Infantry costing 6-9 points: Maximum 40 models/unit
- Infantry costing 10 points or more: Maximum 30 models/unit

Magic Restrictions:
- Apart from Winds of magic and Channeling, an army may only generate 2 PD/DD per magic phase.
- You may have units/abilities that actually would generate more than 2 extra dice, but any excess dice are lost
- Some magic items/abilities count as generating dice toward this limit.
- “Count as” items/abilities may never exceed a cumulative 2PD/DD per phase. This means that if you take the power scroll, you may not take any other items that “count as adding PD/DD”
- All modifers are applied from the army list and will not change during the game.

Item restrictions:
- Power Scroll counts as generating 2 PD and 2 DD each magic phase
- Each Loremaster ability counts as generating 1 PD each magic phase
- Anything item that auto-dispels a spell counts as generating 1 DD each magic phase.
- Folding Fortress is not allowed

Army Specific Restrictions:
Beastmen: No Restrictions
Bretts: Trebuchet is a 0-1 choice
Dark Elves: Hydra is a 0-1 choice. Max. 35 repeater Crossbows in the army
Dwarves: Each spellbreaker/spelleater rune counts as "one item". Anvil of doom counts as warmachine; Grudge Throwers are a 0-2 choice; Max +4 dispel dice instead of +2
DOC: Flamers are a 0-1 choice. Siren Song may only be taken once
Empire: Steam Tank counts as 2 warmachines; Tank, Rocket battery and Engineers are a 0-1 choice

I expect some more minor changes in early January.

Lists will be required 1 week prior to be checked for legality.

Scoring will be on a sliding scale for Battle points:
Quote:
Scoring breakdown

Battle points: max of 125 points
Battle points will be awarded on a sliding scale from 0-20 per game based on margin of victory as follows.
Margin = Winning/Losing
<150 = 10/10
150 = 11/9
300 = 12/8
450 = 13/7
600 = 14/6
750 = 15/5
900 = 16/4
1050 = 17/3
1200 = 18/2
1350 = 19/1
1500 = 20/0

In addition there will be up to 5 bonus points per game, that are independent of Margin of Victory.

Sportsmanship: In an effort to try and have this category be both meaningful and accurate. Everyone will start with 28 points out of a possible 40. After each game you will rank your opponents, You will not be allow to swap the position of your opponents once they are set. For example. There is no reason to score after round one, as you only have 1 opponent. But after round 2. You will be asked to rank your opponents in order from 1-2. After round 3 you will insert your third round opponent into the list, but you may not change your previous order of opponents. At the end, your highest and lowest rank will be dropped. The remaining ranks will be calculated into your score, with each #1 being worth 4 points, and each #2 being worth 2 points, #3's will not modify your score, #4's will deduct 4 from your score, and any #5's will reduce your score by 9. Anyone receiving more than 3 #5's overall will be zero'd for sports and not be allowed to return in 2012.

Keep in mind this takes anything into account, be it the amount of fun you had, how challenging the game is, short of the actual result. We will be keeping tabs on your scores through out the tournament. If you continue to rank everyone you beat high and people who beat you low, we may need to discuss it with you. Hopefully intervention will not be needed. These scores will be made public in the full results.

Note: Cheating is not a part of sportsmanship. If you are found to be cheating during a game, you will be asked to leave and your opponent for the current round will be awarded max points for the round.

Painting: Painting will be worth a total of 40 points. Players will receive their score sheets at the conclusion of event. Exact method will be posted ahead of time. Obviously display boards, conversions and advanced painting techniques will improve your score! Painting your demons as brightly as possible does not automatically improve your score.

So the total points you will be able to achieve in this tournament is 205. With 125 battle points, and 80 for painting and sportsmanship. The breakdown is roughly 60% battle and 40% soft scores.

This will also be a CLOSED list event. I will verify all lists are legal prior to the tournament, and you will check over your opponents list after the game has ended. The only detail to made public to your opponent before the game is your "counts as PD/DD" magic Items/gifts/powers/whatever. To ensure the magic phase is handled correctly.

If Fantasy is your thing, I definitely recommend attending this event.

Keith, the organizer of the event, really knows what he's doing.

This seems like an amazing event.  I will not be in the area until April.  How often do you put on tournaments?  I know this is a big one, what about smaller ones?

smaller ones pop up pretty much every other month if you're willing to go to different stores. hey keith, any word back about the student military/discount? it won't be the deciding factor but it's easier to convince the mrs. to let me bail for a weekend if i'm saving money ;)
