If I were to run a Fantasy event in March....
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:19:39 PM »
...what format would you guys like to see (read: play in)?  Doubles or Singles?

I have been thoroughly unimpressed with the turnout to all of our Fantasy events in the past 5 years, with the exception of that one league a couple years back.  (This is me sticking it to the local Fantasy guys, btw).

i'd prefer singles as i'm fairly new to the area and may have trouble finding a team mate. i guess fantasy just doesn't have a big following around here, i have to frequent 3 different clubs and post on 40k forums to get games with any regularity.

we are currently working on putting into action in the next few months a map based campaign.

It would start in abington, but hopefully would spread to the plainville store in a few months following.

With the current Rule set I would prefer Singles

I'm down for a singles.  The whole allies rule set would favor certain teams more than other.

Wow, and here I was thinking that it'd be hard to convince Chase to run a singles Fantasy event...

+1 for Singles, Chase.  Hopefully I'll be able to make it, since I won't make the 40K Singles next month.

Normally it is tough... It's a day given over to a miniature tournament and no one ever shows up to the Fantasy events.  I'd run more if people showed interest.

I am going to run the event as an Escalation Tournament.  It will be 1v1 and each round your game will be at a different point value (your army must stay the same, however).

For example:

R1: 1000
R2: 1250
R3: 1500
(these will not be the actual values)

Here's hoping we get more than 8 players!

in an escalation wouldn't the army list have to change to a company the %s for your lists... 25% lords, etc...

Yes, it would.  Once the final point totals are decided (which hopefully won't be too long from now), we'll effectively need to have 3 different lists.

Just out of curiosity, Chase, why did you choose an Escalation format?

Because then five people will show up ;)

fantasy players ask for a megabattle, but then 2 people would come

There's a group of guys who have attended just about all of the Fantasy events we've run in the past several years that I've also asked about the event.  Of the people that mentioned wanting to see a 1v1 event they seemed to think escalation would be cool.

I figured it would make the event feel a bit more casual and give people a chance to play their army at 3 different point levels with 3 different lists.

It seemed like a pretty good idea to me.
