Bases for fleshhounds...
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:19:27 PM »
So, apparently fleshhounds only come with 50x25 square bases.   I would sure like to model mine on 40mm round bases rather than 75x25 bike bases or the actual square bases they came with.  Anybody have opinions on what's acceptable for tournament play?

I'd say bike bases. Seekers use bike bases, and they are cavalry.

Technically, I suppose since there is no 40k round base, you can use whatever you like.

Yeah I just don't like those bike bases...  plus the scibor ones (to match the rest of my army) are kind of expensive.

Seekers with their bike bases are cavalry, but Flesh Hounds aren't (they're beasts).  Fiends are also beasts and come on 40mm round bases.

I guess the bike bases actually give a small advantage competition-wise, since you can push them far up, rotated sideways, then rotate them at the start of your movement phase and move them 12" out from there.

Actually that would be illegal movement. :)  6th edition killed that and you can only move 12 from end to end.  Same thing with vehicles.

Oh, cool, haha, I didn't even realize that.  That always seemed cheesy to me, I'm glad they fixed it.

Anyway.  I think I'm just gonna go 40mm and see if the world complains.  Better to apologize than to ask for permission?

Ha, pretty sure a judge would just have the offending models removed from play. But then again, I can only think of a handful of people for whom this would be serious business.

Hmm good point... maybe I should make this an official question for Sam, for BG tournaments?

What base sizes are acceptable for fleshounds?   Options on the table:

- the 50x25mm rectangle bases that come in the box
- 75x25mm bike bases
- 40x40mm round bases

I have no problem with any of these and would have a very hard time penalizing someone for either.

Going by the other Beast units in 40k, I'd say the 40mm bases. Dark Eldar Khymerae, Clawed Fiends, Razorwing Flocks, Chaos Daemon Fiends and Beasts of Nurgle, Space Wolves Fenrisian Wolves and Tyranid Raveners. All beasts on 40mm bases.
