Popular Blog ‘Sprites and Dice’ Mentions Battleground Games & Hobbies @ PAX East

Popular gaming blog website Sprites and Dice wrote a in-depth review about their experience at this year’s PAX East convention in Boston a few weeks ago. In their review, they mention Battleground Games & Hobbies, specifically, the popular Dungeons & Dragons Arena demo that we offer convention-goers each year. Enjoy this excerpt from their article:
“On Friday, [I] spent a great deal of my time with … Battleground Games & Hobbies. There was a very good reason I spent so much time with these stores: the people there were friendly, welcoming, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. I don’t bring this up just as a plug for … [this] stores (although if you’re lucky enough to be near one of them, I highly recommend checking them out), but because [they] exemplified what makes someplace like PAX East so great for gamers.”
“…since [my] first PAX in 2013, one of my favorite stations has been Battleground’s Dungeons and Dragons Arena. It’s a constant, cycling battle where players pick a character, enter the arena, and fight until they die. Battleground has low-level demo characters available for free, or you can buy anything from a regular fighter to a full-grown dragon at their booth. Granted that makes this a bit of a pay-to-win; but then, the whole point is to get players to buy their merchandise. Since there are no prizes up for grabs and there’s no high score kept, it truly doesn’t detract from the experience.
What really makes this station stand out (in fact, what makes it impossible not to notice) is the man who runs it, a gentleman by the name of Craig Baker. Each action is described with melodramatic, over-the-top narration. Each round of combat begins with a rousing cry of, ‘Battleground Arena continues! Huzzah!’ Craig’s enthusiasm and energy are infectious and seemingly limitless; he keeps a steady stream of people coming and going all weekend.”

Announcing ‘Battleground: The Gathering Place’ 1/300

We’ve decided to do a little project for fun. It’s been something we’ve been joking around about at the store for a while now, and every time it gets mentioned things usually get hilarious pretty fast.
The idea is to build a set of Magic: The Gathering cards themed after Battleground Games & Hobbies and the people who make up the community. We want the cards to be playable (for the most part) and also be a good representation of the person or thing we’re trying to emulate, honor, and sometimes poke fun at.
We’ve tentatively decided to call this project “Battleground: The Gathering Place,” and we’ve put together a team to formulate ideas. The goal is to try to release a new card on the Battleground blog each week. Maybe when we get to 300 cards we’ll actually print the set and see how it plays in a cube draft or something to that effect.
In the meantime, we will start off with a very sensible choice. I present to you, Battleground: The Gathering Place’s first official card of the series:
Chase, the Mind Sculptor!
Is it broken? Sure, a little bit. But so isn’t Chase.

Announcing Changes to Battleground Games & Hobbies Store Credit Policy

Abington, MA – Battleground Games & Hobbies is announcing a major change with regards to our Store Credit Policy and how we handle store credit with, specifically regarding enrolling in events.
Effective February 1, 2014, customers registering for events will no longer be allowed to utilize store credit that they have won or acquired otherwise to register for an event. In addition, customers may not use store credit they have won or acquired otherwise to purchase Battleground Games & Hobbies gift cards.
However, customers may use Battleground Games & Hobbies gift cards to register for events.
We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. However, while we did not come to this decision lightly, we feel strongly in this course of action in order to make Battleground Games & Hobbies even stronger for 2014 and continue to provide the very best in selection and service.
We appreciate and thank you very much for your loyal support and continuing to make Battleground Games & Hobbies a fantastic, welcoming and fun environment to frequent and enjoy.
