The game today was awesome!  It ended, if I remember correctly, in a draw with roughly 100pts between Sims and Steve.

Halfway through I thought the guys went mad when Steve's Strike Cruisers and Sims' Tau ships were less than 5cm apart.  You really cannot discount those Strike Cruisers.  They are durable and shooty.

The Space Marines escort died like fruit flies and Sims' Tau lasted a lot longer but near the end of the game all his escorts were gone (died a turn or 2 before?) and some of his big guys were dead or crippled.

For a 1k game it was crippling.  I think another turn or two would've been good for you guys.  But, that's how Sundays go.  Here's hoping that 1) I find my BFG stuff soon and remember how to play 2) Steve can play with us more often and 3) Sims' Tau die a horrible death from 32 torpedoes per turn from the mighty Imperium Navy.  To quote Sims "suck it"

Jon you still have those unassembled space stations? I wouldnt mind assembeling them for nice terrain use and maybe even scenario use.

Yes, yes I do.  I believe I have 2 orbital space stations and 1 blackstone fortress.  I may actually have 3 orbital space stations...not sure though.  I need to do an in depth roundup of my BFG stuff, catalog it all, and then see what's what.

There's some nice pieces in there but is a shame that a lot (well the metals) are not assembled.  I hate gluing those escorts...they're such a pain. That's why I field a cruiser heavy fleet.  The plastics are much better.

Actually, it was "suckad*ck".

That was a great game today Steve.  It was great not to get utterly destroyed like I do against John, though I liked that we devastated each other.  I think another turn or two would have definitely helped one side or the other, I can't believe I forgot to use Come to New Heading and just kept trying to make normal turns to get to you.  I hope we can play again, because I really liked how our game went.

Everybody else needs to get their ships together now.  War is here, don't be left behind.

Gotta play a bigger game for the barge.  I'd love to see you play against Sims again but I'd also love to see you play against John.

John won't be at the store tomorrow but if you're able to come next Wednesday (the 23rd) he'll be there.  He'll probably play Chaos versus your marines.  That'd be a fantastic game to watch.

That is a predicament.  I think that means you won't be playing against John anytime soon (but who knows).  So...best 2 out of 3 between Sims and you?  Winner takes the crown!

Think you guys will play a 2k game?  I know the 1k took like 3 hours but maybe you can get a game in when there's fewer distractions and it'll end in less than 3 hours.

I've watched John play this afew times and it looks pretty cool. Are there starter sets? Does Derek seel this stuff, or atleast get his hands on it?  I don't always have the $ to invest alot right now, but I'd be willing to try afew games to see if I like it. Anyone able to explain it t me in game sometime. I've played war at sea w/ john afew games, so I sorta understand some of it.

There is a boxed game of it but I don't think that is purchasable anymore.  You can get the rules for FREE at http://www.specialist-games.com/battlefleetgothic/rulebook.asp.  Download them and read through them.  Those are all the current rules.

Regarding fleets, Derek has some stuff in stock.  Whatever he doesn't have he can get.  Cookie is buying Tyranid ships when he gets paid.

If you want to do it on the cheap go for either Chaos or Imperium.  Most of their bigger ships (cruisers) are plastic.  1 box of Cruisers ($15) gives you enough plastic bits to make 2 cruisers.  You configure them how you want to correspond with the ship type from the core book.  Battleships (there are 2 for Imperium) and escorts are metallic.  They go for $35 (1 box of metal bitz to make 1 battleship).  Grand cruisers are roughly $30 per ship.  Escorts are roughly $12 for a box/blister of 3-4 escorts (depends on type).

Go to http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/listProducts.jsp?catId=cat200200 for the complete catalog.  You can buy the rules and the Armada book (most notable covers Tau and Space Marines) but you're better off getting those free rules.

I think that covers it.  Oh one more thing.  Eldar are the most broken fleet in game.  Necrons are 2nd.  This is based on my experience playing against them.  Tyranids can be up there.  Space Marines rock for their bombardment cannons.  Chaos have strong weapons when they're close to the opponent.  Imperium, like Chaos, has a little of everything but also has good strength weaponry at range.  Dark Eldar are similar to Eldar but not exactly the same.  Tau are pretty sweet and relatively new.  The Space Orks are random, moreso than in 40k, and you can make a fleet from scratch (scratchbuild a bunch of Roks and whatnot).

Sounds like you guys had a great game!  I'm glad there are other players of this game out there.

So, Rob, interested in a game on Wednesday (23JUL08)?  As I said earlier, I have a game of A&A Minis with Rick planned for that night, but if we start early enough, I can play both.  We could plan for 1,000 points?  Who knows, maybe Jonathan will find his stuff and finally join in.

Jonathan, if you do find your stuff, I could assemble the escorts for you if you like.

Talk to you soon.

John, I unfortunately won't be there next Wednesday.  I'm going to Warped Tour and will be there until midnight or so.  Hope your game of A&A goes well.

I'm afraid to play against you?  You're the one only daring to show your face once every two weeks since I'm there so often. :D
