Grand Prix Richmond ‘Crackgate’ Originator Identified and Interviewed!

The plot simply continues to thicken. Professional Magic the Gathering player Matthew Sperling posted recently on his blog an in-depth interview with the individual responsible for what is now known as the ‘crackgate’ scandal (see post “Wizards of the Coast Responds to ‘Crackgate’ Scandal”). The individual, identified as Sid Blair, took photos of numerous unidentified gamer’s rear-ends at Grand Prix Richmond 2014 and then posted the photos to Reddit, as a joke.
During the interview, Mr. Sperling asks Mr. Blair the motivation behind the photos:
“My goal was to make myself and my friends laugh. We have an odd sense of humor and find this sort of thing funny. I decided to post the pictures I took the day after I got back. I figured a few people would think it was funny, and the rest of the world would think I was really weird. I kept it anonymous and never intended to shame, bully or harass anyone.”

IDW to Publish ‘X-Files’ Board Game

Late last week, news website ICv2.com reported that IDW Publishing has announced the July release of a brand new licensed big box X-Files strategy board game designed by veteran designer Kevin Wilson (Arkham Horror, Descent, Civilization). Gallery and comic book artist mention is providing the illustrations that will be used for the game’s cover and throughout its various components.
IDW’s X-Files board game will focus on material from the first three seasons of television series, giving fans a chance to start their board game adventures from the beginning of the X-Files phenomenon, which was one of the major TV successes of the 1990s. Players will get the chance to take on the role of Mulder, Scully, and the X-Filesteam as they work to uncover global conspiracies and threats while going up against various members of the Syndicate.
IDW acquired the license to publish X-Files comics in early 2013 . There have been X-Files card games and trivia games issued before, but this appears to be the first true X-Files strategy board game. This is great news for die-hard X-Files fans.

‘Star Wars X-Wing: Rebel Aces’ Expansion Pack Announced!

Fantasy Flight Games has recently announced Star Wars X-Wing: Rebel Aces Expansion Pack, an expansion for the popular X-Wing collectible miniatures game, due out in quarter 3 of 2014. The Rebel Aces Expansion Pack is not a stand-alone game, it requires the core X-Wing game in order to play.
The X-Wing: Rebel Aces Expansion Pack contains one A-wing and one B-wing miniature, both which come with alternate paint schemes. The Expansion also includes four highly skilled new pilots, thirteen upgrade cards, a dramatic rescue mission scenario, plus all the tokens and maneuver dials needed to launch these starfighters against the Empire.
Both the A-wing and B-wing miniatures included in the Rebel Aces Expansion share the same 1/270 scale as the miniatures found in the A-Wing Expansion Pack and the B-Wing Expansion Pack.
Rebel Aces will be on sale now at your local Battleground Games & Hobbies retail store this fall. Keep an eye out!
