Geek & Sundry’s TableTop: Takenoko

Check out the latest episode of Geek & Sundry’s smash YouTube web series TableTop, with host Wil Wheaton, featuring special guests Rosanna Pansino, Harley Morenstein, and Drew Roy. This week, they’re playing a sweet game designed by Antione Bauza and published by Asmodee Games.

 

 

About Takenoko

 

A long time ago at the Japanese Imperial court, the Chinese Emperor offered a giant panda bear as a symbol of peace to the Japanese Emperor. Since then, the Japanese Emperor has entrusted his court members (the players) with the difficult task of caring for the animal by tending to his bamboo garden.

In Takenoko, the players will cultivate land plots, irrigate them, and grow one of the three species of bamboo (Green, Yellow, and Pink) with the help of the Imperial gardener to maintain this bamboo garden. They will have to bear with the immoderate hunger of this sacred animal for the juicy and tender bamboo. The player who manages his land plots best, growing the most bamboo while feeding the delicate appetite of the panda, will win the game.

Ascension: Darkness Unleashed Now Available

The newest expansion for the popular Ascension deck building game is here! The story continues with Ascension: Darkness Unleashed, expanding where Ascension: Rise of Vigil left off and building upon the Energize mechanic, featuring all new cards including a brand new type of card: Transform cards.

 

 

Transform cards have two different forms.  They always begin the game in the deck in one of the forms, and once a certain condition is met – frequently a player reaching a particular energy threshold – they transform into their alternate form permanently!  All Transform cards are included in the set in two different versions – one copy of the card that has both versions printed on each side of a single card, so you can simply flip the card over when you transform it if you’re playing with sleeves.  There are also separate copies of each version of the card with the normal Ascension back which you can use if you choose to play without sleeving your copy of Ascension.

This Saturday, running all day, Battleground is hosting the 1st International TableTop Day at our Abington location! Come down with your favorite games or just bring an open mind. We’ll have demos and games running all day long. There will be a huge variety of tabletop games to hop in and play, including many from the hit web series, Tabletop!
No matter if you’re a veteran board gamer or the newbiest of newbs, there will be plenty for you to enjoy. Come down this Saturday and join us! At some point in the day, the event will also be live-streamed over the internet to the International TableTop Day host!

Wil Wheaton Plays Last Night on Earth

Check out Wil Wheaton’s latest video on geekandsundry.com. Guests Felicia Day, Riki Lindhome, and Kate Micucci join him to play Last Night on Earth, a zombie themed board game from Flying Frog Productions. This game has long been a favorite among Battleground regulars and it’s available at both the Abington and Plainville locations.

 

There are also a good number of expansions that you can add to the main game to enhance your experience after you’ve played through the main game a few times. The game is for 2 – 6 players and lasts for about 90 minutes. Suggested ages are for 12 and up. It was originally published in 2007.

 

Last Night on Earth is a survival horror board game that pits small-town heroes head-to-head against a limitless horde of zombies. Players can play as the hero team or as the zombies. A modular board randomly determines the layout of the town at the start of each game and there are several different scenarios to play, making the replay value of the game very high. It’s fast paced with easy to learn rules that allow you to jump right into the action, while strategic depth and strong cooperative play keep the game interesting. The artwork for the game is photographic to help produce a horror movie feel. It also comes with a CD soundtrack of original music.

 

This is a great Halloween party game!
