Z-Man Games will release The Staufer Dynasty historic strategy board game to trade in December, after a premiere at Essen, as first reported by ICv2.com.
Designed by Andreas Steding (Firenze, Five Points: Gangs of New York, Hansa Teutonica), The Staufer Dynasty casts players into the role of travelers in the entourage of Henry VI, as he tours his kingdom and attempts to govern his empire, which runs from the North and Baltic seas south to Italy. Players place their envoys and nobles in positions of power in the six regions of the game, attempting to gain power and influence with the King over five rounds.
The box contains 119 tokens, 53 Privilege and Job cards, 111 wooden pieces, and a game board made of 9 tiles. The game is for 2 -5 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in 90 minutes.
Mantic Games has announced several upcoming expansions for its new Mars Attacks–The Miniatures Game, including a boxed set, Humanity Resists, as well as several troop units, a Martian Attack Saucer, and a Martian Dredd miniature for November release, according to hobby news retailer ICv2.com.
Mantic Games licensed the Mars Attacks property from the Topps Company to produce a tabletop war game in mid-2013 and launched the game via Kickstarter in October. The Kickstarter raised $558,076 from 2,753 backers ($202.72 average/backer).
The Mars Attacks–Humanity Resists box set will include eight new scenarios, new special rules, new characters including Agents Falco and Natalya, and the All American Flatbed Truck. There are several pieces included in the box expansion that will also be available for individual sale, including the Martian Attack Saucer, the Novas Vira Resistance Soldiers, Stealth Martians, and Martian Marines.
The Stealth Martians and Martian Marines are upgrades soldiers with unique rules. Stealth goes against Martian rules of battle, so Stealth Martians are both revered and considered cowardly by their brethren. The Martian Marines are elite scouts for the Martian army, but only available in small numbers.
The Novas Vira Resistance Soldiers are humanity’s greatest hope–with advanced training and special weapons. They have been secretly trained by a mysterious benefactor to prepare for the inevitable alien invasion.
The Martian Dredd miniature is a premium miniature launched from the mash-up of Mars Attacks and Judge Dredd , which IDW Publishing published as the comic cross over Mars Attacks Judge Dredd in 2013. The Martian will be dressed in Dredd’s armor, and unlike the famous Judge, travels with his helmet off, so it can blend in with the rest of the force.
10/30/14, 6:06 PM – UPDATE: Trevor Humphries is suspended for a period of four years. In addition, Alex Bertoncini is likewise suspended for a period of three years.
Last weekend, retailer and event organizer Star City Games of Virginia hosted their well-known tournament series, the SCG Open, in Worcester, MA. Earlier today, a post on reddit.com surfaced in which the eventually winner, Trevor Humphries, is allegedly caught on camera stacking his opponent’s deck by sliding cards to the top of his opponent’s deck while shuffling.
Unfortunately, we can’t embed a Twitch.tv video, but you can watch the match in question by clicking here. Specifically, watch Mr. Humphries shuffling his opponent’s deck during the second game.
Furthermore, additional evidence has supposedly surfaced in which Mr. Humphries may have employed the shuffling tactics in question during the SCG Invitation earlier this year. You can see for yourself by clicking here.
Jared Sylvan, Level 4 Judge and Organized Play Manager for Star City Games, posted this to reddit.com:
“We have reviewed the footage of Mr. Humphries and concluded that there is enough evidence that we have submitted an investigation to the Judge Program. We have contacted Mr. Humphries to notify him of this and to request a statement for inclusion in the investigation.
This also activates our Prize Hold policy for players under investigation meaning that Mr. Humphries’ prizes will be held, pending the completion of this investigation. If the investigation results in a suspension, his prizes will be donated to charity.

What do you think? Did Mr. Humphries deloy a cheat during his high profile match? Is Star City Game’s response adequate? You be the judge and let us know in the comments below.
We’ll update this story as it develops. Stay tuned!
Ares Games recently announced a deal with Conan Properties International LLC to relaunch the Age of Conan strategy board game as well as release the new Adventures in Hyboria expansion after a Kickstarter funding campaign. Ares has shared details with ICv2 about the expected trade release, according to hobby retailer news website ICv2.com.
The Adventures in Hyboria expansion expands Conan’s role in the game, and tracks his progress from warrior to mercenary to general. With each adventure, Conan gains experience and moves from one stage to the next, becoming more powerful. His goal is to be crowned king, but he is also subject to fits of melancholy, so his emotional mood is tracked with a Mood Wheel – which affects his statistics and dice rolls. Not every game will end with Conan reaching his goal. There are also Story cards, new Companion characters, Spies to help win wars, new Kingdom cards, and prisoners added to the game.
The box contains 4 new Objective cards, 29 new Adventure cards, 30 Story cards, 20 new Kingdom cards (5 per Kingdom), 20 Spy tokens (5 per Kingdom), 9 Companion cards, 12 Adventure tokens (including Companion tokens), 3 special Conan dice, a Mood Wheel marker, a Conan reference board, a Conan experience marker, and a rulebook.
Box contents may change as the Kickstarter campaign progresses, and Ares said that while some backer goals (Sorcery cards, the Cloth bag) will not be included in the trade version, some will. “Every time we achieve a goal, we will make clear if it becomes a part of the retail-level expansion or not,” an Ares Games representative clarified. “In any case, these upgrades are not exclusives, and they may become available to retail as accessories or as a part of future products.”
