Winner’s Circle Special – Game Day Weekend Winners (Abington)

This past weekend Battleground Games & Hobbies hosted the ever-popular Magic Game Day to celebrate the release of Born of the Gods. These special events occur three to four weeks after the release of every Magic the Gathering set. So, look forward to the Journey into Nyx Game Day and you could win an exclusive Game Day play mat and one-of-a-kind promo cards! For Born of the Gods Game Day, players received a promo Kiora’s Follower for signing up, with the top eight players each receiving a foil promo Pain Seer!

Saturday 5:00 PM Game Day – Abington, MA

Congratulations to Jack Spendlove, playing Mono-Black Devotion. Jack split in the finals with Battleground Games & Hobbies Online Manager Chris Alexander, whom likewise did battle with Mono-Black Devotion.

Sunday 2:00 PM Game Day – Abington, MA

And then, Chris Alexander decided he wanted the Born of the Gods Game Day play mat, after all, defeating Alex Suarez in the finals of Battleground Games & Hobbies Sunday Game Day event. Chris’ “devotion” to his Mono-Black deck proved to much for Alex and his Jund Monsters deck to overcome in three great games of Magic.

Congratulations to the top finishers of each event. In addition, on behalf of the staff here at Battleground Games & Hobbies, we would like to thank everyone that attended our Born of the Gods Game Day events. We greatly appreciate you choosing to hang out with us.

Join us at Battleground Games & Hobbies for the Born of the Gods Game Day and play with the new cards on a global scale!

Saturday

Format: Standard (with a cut to top 8.)

Format: Standard (with a cut to top 8.)
Date: March 2nd, 2014
Time: 2:00pm
Entrance Fee: $10.00 per person

This event will be run as a box tournament. Every participant beyond 12 will add $10.00 store credit to the prize pool.

The event will cut to a top 8 or top 4 based on attendance.

Deck lists are not required for this event.

All players will receive a full art, promo Kiora’s Follower. The top 8 players will receiver a foil, full art, promo Pain Seer.

And don’t forget to Battle the Horde! Game Day players and non-players will also have a chance to bring the Hero Cards they’ve earned at the Theros Block Prereleases and Fat Pack Challenges to help defeat the Battle the Horde Deck! It’s not a part of the tournament, but you’ll want to defeat the Horde to earn the 6th Hero Card on the Hero’s Path.

Winner’s Circle SPECIAL – Feb 7 Born of the Gods Fat Pack Challenge Champions

Last week, Battleground Games & Hobbies celebrated the release of Born of the Gods with a very special Friday Night Magic: the Fat Pack Challenge! Participants in this super-fun event each receive a Born of the Gods fat pack and may use all nine booster packs to build the best 40-card sealed deck to play with in the tournament. Wow! MTG Born of the Gods Pre-release Events – All Weekend Long!

Join at Battleground Games & Hobbies for a first look at the second set in the Theros block: Born of the Gods and experience the newest Magic: the Gathering set a week before it goes on sale – all weekend long!

The Born of the Gods Prerelease presents players with a special opportunity to open a Pre-release Pack and continue their journey down the Hero’s Path. There are five Pre-release Packs to choose from; each color has a Heroic Path: White – Lead, Blue – Outwit, Black – Dominate, Red – Conquer, and Green – Thrive.

If players would like to be guaranteed a specific Born of the Gods Pre-release Pack they MUST preregister for the event they would like to participate in. Please speak to a store associate to pre-register.

*Sealed Deck: Each player receives one Born of the Gods Prerelease Pack corresponding to the color of their choice. Every Prerelease Pack comes with the associated Hero Card (see below).

**Two-Headed Giant Sealed Deck: Each TEAM will receive 2 Born of the Gods Prerelease Packs with which to build two 40 card decks.

Simply put, we will run:

Born of the Gods Sealed Deck – After FNM at midnight (12:01am) on Saturday morning
Born of the Gods Sealed Deck – 12:00pm on Saturday
Born of the Gods Sealed Deck – 6:00pm on Saturday
Born of the Gods Two-Headed Giant Sealed Deck – 12:00pm on Sunday
Born of the Gods Sealed Deck – 6:00pm on Sunday

What Do I Get?

Prizes are based on attendance. There will be 2 booster packs per player put into the prize pool. Prizes packs are typically awarded to the top 35% of finishers.

Each Player will receive one Born of the Gods Prerelease Pack that contains:

2 Born of the Gods booster packs
3 Theros booster packs
1 seeded booster pack*
1 promo card
1 Master Your Destiny activity card
1 Spindown™ life counter
1 Hero’s Path welcome letter
1 Hero Card
For this event, players may use the promo card included with the Prerelease Pack in their tournament deck.

*Contains cards from Born of the Gods and Theros that are or have synergy with color you chose.

What Else Can I Do?

Open Dueling: Open Dueling players each receive 1 Born of the Gods Intro Pack. Open Dueling players use their Intro Pack to play against each other, as well as Prerelease tournament players who are between matches. All players should be encouraged to help teach Open Dueling participants how to play Magic.

Commander Melees:

Use your Commander decks with your friends!

Come down, play some cards, check out the new set, and meet some new people!
