New Kickstarter Board Game ‘Dogs of War’ Coming in Q4

At ACD Games Day – an annual event held by ACD Distribution, owned by Hall of Fame Magic the Gathering player Bob Maher Jr., CoolMiniOrNot shared details about the planned release of Dogs of War, a new European-style board game they will release in the fourth quarter, according to retailer news website ICv2.com.

Designed by Paolo Mori (Libertalia, Augustus), Dogs of War is a game of intrigue and backstabbing, set in a steampunk Renaissance universe.  Players take the role of captains of private armies, deployed in favor of rival noble houses.  Players use their Dog of War to help them win influence, battles and if needed, betray the house they’ve sworn allegiance to.  The goal is not pure military power, but rather to amass power by getting rewards from houses, amassing gold and troops, and gaining influence with the most successful houses.

The box will contain 30 plastic busts of the 5 Dogs of War and their player screens, 50 soldier cards (4 types), 32 tactical cards, 72 house influence tokens (for 6 houses), 36 coins, 60 victory point tokens,  and a configurable tile-based game board.  The game is for 3 -5 players.

The game was funded on Kickstarter at the beginning of May, and raised $66,703 from 1,139 backers ($58.56/backer).

If this board game sounds sweet, let us know when you stop by your local Battleground Games & Hobbies! Special order available.

‘Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King’ Announced

Soda Pop Miniatures has announced yet another completed, successful Kickstarter funding campaign, netting $1,151,889 from 6,589 backers to fund the new companion board game Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King.  It is Soda Pop’s first solo publishing product since they recently ended their publishing arrangement with CoolMiniOrNot.  It fell just short of the Top 10 Tabletop Kickstarters, a sign of how difficult it is now to crack that list.

A stand-alone companion game for the anime-styled, hack and slash dungeon exploration board game Super Dungeon ExploreForgotten King takes place in Crystalia, and the heroes must journey to the dungeon and destroy all the spawning points for monsters raised by the Dark Consul.  When the spawning points are destroyed, they create a mini-boss which must be defeated to earn loot, treasure and princess coins.  The game contains two play modes, Classic and Arcade.

The game will contain 57 preassembled miniatures, 6 double-sided dungeon tiles, counters, game cards and a rule book.  Soda Pop Miniatures confirmed that the game is projected for December release, after backer fulfillment.

If you enjoy Super Dungeon Explore, you’ll love this game! And you can bet Battleground Games & Hobbies will have it, just as soon as it’s available, for your enjoyment.

Soda Pop Miniatures has also released expansions for Super Dungeon Explore, including Caverns of Roxor and Von Drakk Manor – both of which are available at Battleground Games & Hobbies!

ICv2: ‘Walking Dead’ Board Game Kickstarter Closed

Retailer news website ICv2.com announced today, that the Kickstarter for a new board game based on The Walking Dead comic series was canceled on Saturday, around a week before the funding period was to complete.  The project creators announced that they’ve “agreed to an exclusive distribution deal with Diamond/Alliance,” which led to the decision to cancel the Kickstarter.

“Given that we now have an amazing distribution deal with the perfect distribution partner, we don’t feel comfortable continuing to ask for funding money through Kickstarter,” the creators announced in an update.  The game will now be solicited by Diamond Comic Distributors and Alliance Game Distributors.”

Backers had pledged $31,830 of the $81,100 goal before the project was canceled, and the project creators had noted that pledges had dropped off.

The Walking Dead: The Prison Board Game, is described as a “stand-alone sequel to the hit 2011 game Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead: The Board Game, published by Z-Man Games.”  The Z-Man game did well, but was often out of print and was eventually eclipsed by the game based on the TV show, published by Cryptozoic Entertainment.  This gives another chance for a game based on the comic to come to the fore.

Artwork is by Charlie Adlard, with game design by Keith Tralins through his Megagigaomnicorp, which was the company he used for his first game, based on the Lost TV show.  Also involved are Matt Wang, co-founder of Top8mangic, who worked on the Z-ManThe Walking Dead Board Game, the Chaotic TCG, and many other games; Brian David-Marshall; and Jason Greeno.

The game will include a board, 90 Encounter Cards, 20 Follower Cards, 30 Goal Cards, 15 Room Cards, 6 Starting Character Portraits, 6 Bases, a rulebook, 6 starting character player sheets, 4 Blue Hero dice, 4 Red Warrior dice, 4 Green Scavenger dice, 1 Black Ammo die, 96 Zombie tokens, 24 Fatigue markers, 15 Secured markers, 12 Resource markers, and 6 Leadership Point markers.

‘Mega Man: The Board Game’ by Jasco Games

Jasco Games plans to release Mega Man: The Board Game in October 2014.  The game is currently a live Kickstarter project, according to an article published by ICv2.com.

Jasco added Capcom’s Mega Man as a license for its Universal Fighting System CCG last year, and plans to release its first product, a UFS Mega Man tin, in January.

The board game based on the property will be released in time for the 25th anniversary of the release of the first video game late this year.  Jasco stated that they turned to Kickstarter for funding for two reasons, “First, and most importantly, we’re seeking funding to make this the board game we always wanted to make. Kickstarter funding will allow us to use better materials, offer more extras like miniatures, cards, extra boards, and polish the finalized product… Second, we wanted fans to have a chance to show their support for Mega Man and be involved in this exciting process.”

The core game box will contain 5 Pre-Constructed Player Decks (40 cards each), 5 Mega Man game pieces, 5 Robot Master game pieces (Trophies), 1 Dr. Wily Game piece, 6 game boards  (5 for the Robot Masters, 1 for Dr. Wily), 5 Mega Man Character Card Life Meters, 12 Stage Tokens for each Robot Master, 20 Stage Tokens for Dr. Wily, 5 of each Robot Master boss cards, 5 Mega Man Character cards, and a rulebook (with digital download copy).  Additional villain decks & game boards, exclusive game pieces, and Universal Fighting System deck boxes & card sleeves are all listed as stretch goals and add-on bonuses.

The Kickstarter has already raised $273,761 from 2,078 backers ($131.74 per backer average) as of this writing and will be funded on Sunday January 19. Official MSRP for the game has not been determined.
